Can Localization Be Called Censorship?

OnlySP: If you’ve been anxiously awaiting the arrival of Fire Emblem Fates on the 3DS next month, you may have noticed a veritable shitstorm that has boiled over in the community regarding the exclusion of certain content from the North American (and likely European) release. This is not the first time that this subject has been up for not-so-friendly debate; when the game was released in Japan last June, there was a similar controversy over the revelation that this content existed in the first place. Some are declaring the changes “censorship” and even vowing not to purchase the game, while others are expressing relief and deeming the game better off this way. Censorship has become a very pervasive subject within the gaming community, especially in the last few years, and so I really wanted to take a moment to address what censorship means and how it may or may not pertain to this particular franchise, which admittedly is dear to my heart.

No. Only the joke spin over at Dualshockers would say it differently. Nobody else really cared all that much, and now that we know barely anything was taken out. It is less of an issue.

I have Fire Emblem Fates LE, the European one. Not sure if it's as valuable as the US version, but it certainly was in high demand.

Don't think the European one would be as valuable since it's not region free. I got mine box and all and all those Yokai Watch games

Nyxus852d ago

I also have some of the Yokai Watch games, but also the PAL versions which don't seem to be that valuable.

Its not often I actually have games on the 'most expensive list' but I do own Rhythm Thief and Layton vs. Ace Attorney. I believe both of them are sealed as well.

Nice! Hopefully they re-release the Layton games on the Switch. Surprised they haven't already
