XCOM 2 Is Out This Week With No Controller Support, Fans Voice Concerns

Gadgets 360 says: "Developer Firaxis has been almost universally celebrated for its efforts, what with the game being subject to rave reviews. Some fans aren't happy though, taking to Twitter to voice their concerns. Reason being, the game lacks support for controllers at launch. Confusing considering that its predecessor, XCOM: Enemy Unknown was applauded for its rock solid controller support backed up with a user interface that worked well regardless of your input method of choice. So, if you're planning to play XCOM 2 with a controller on a couch, you'll have to wait."

Well pc players shouldn't be using a peripheral from something "inferior" known as a console. Pc is perfect. /s

nowitzki20043770d ago

Why do you think the controller is a console only thing? lmao

I can switch between DS4 and K&M by just putting the controller down and using the K&M. Still use K&M 95% of the time because its better.

what do you mean Pure PC game?

I had a gravis gamepad back when you needed the midi port for it and it worked very well for lots of games. that's one of the awesome advantage with PC gaming, you're not limited to a unique controller. Ever tried devil may cry with kb/mouse?

I think many steam link customers would love to get controller support for most of their games. Since when NOT having something is considered best????

That's the beauty of PC gaming, be able to play with any type of controller or game input. I have a xbox 360 gamepad. Was able to play stick it to the man using a gamepad in conjunction with a mouse. Was playing deux ex human revolution with a kb and mouse and L.A. Noire with kb and mouse but in L.A. noire the driving bits whip out the gamepad for it was easier. On consoles you are restricted to the gamepad.

Controller Companion can make it happen. I really like the different profiles in the Gameworks community. Sooner or later you're bound to find one that works for you. Or you can simply make one of your own! Best $4 Ive spent on Steam yet.

PixelGateUk3770d ago

Why the fudge would you use a controller on this when playing on the PC?

jmac533770d ago

If you have steam link and the steam controller. That's one reason and I'm sure there are a thousand others. Why are you so concerned about it?

PixelGateUk3770d ago (Edited 3770d ago )

'Why are you so concerned about it?'

Yes, i am indeed bleeding with concern :P come on dude. Hope i didn't trigger any pad users. Maybe i just prefer to have more control in my strat games i guess

It nearly always gets patched in after a games release, so pad users shouldn't be so...concered ;)

SteamPowered3770d ago

I thought the same thing of Diablo and Divinity when controller support came around. But lo and behold Diablo on consoles was a joy and now I can comfortably play D:OS on the big screen.
Controller support has become quite intuitive.

Just before Christmas last year I bought a wireless mechanical keyboard and a wireless gaming mouse for a week long trip to my grandparents' village. Then my Steam Controller arrived.

I barely used the spanking new KBM combo for their intended purpose(gaming) since then. The Steam Controller took over their roles are my primary gaming device while my old 360 controller is collecting dust somewhere.

Really, XCOM 2 fans should get the Steam Controller if they really want to play on the couch and the dev is slow to cater their needs. It can be configured to play as a KBM setup so there's no need to wait for modders or the dev to roll in the mod/patch.

Psychotica3770d ago

Yeah that is kind of odd. I like using a controller on a lot of PC games but this wouldn't be one of them.

Well people do say that games like these don't work well on consoles because of the controller..

LAWSON723770d ago (Edited 3770d ago )

Yeah no one said that about xcom 1

2pacalypsenow3770d ago

Just look at all the other articles on Xcom 2 in here everyone that says Xcom should stay Pc exclusive because of the MKB and how "Awkward" it is for them to use a controller.

CorndogBurglar3770d ago

I dont understand how a controller would be awkward. You dont have control of any characters. You place a cursor over a character, then move the cursor to a square on the grid, then press a button to have that character move. Literally everything in the game is done that way.

Why would a controller make that any harder? Its just people complaining for no good reason.

Kal-V33770d ago

Git Gud on K&M, whats the problem? Devs don't have to support controller. People could adapt instead of crying about it. This is coming from a non-PC master race guy. :)

Alot’s changed in 25 years. We have games with $300 mill budgets, people not interested in games other than Fortnite and Minecraft, the older generation of gamers giving up the hobby or dying off, a period of super bad inflation where the industry decided to hike up prices on games, Gamepass harming game sales, GaaS games being pushed left and right with obnoxious monetization and worse looking/playing (Suicide Squad vs Arkham Knight).

The industry is just shite right now. Games ain’t selling, games cost massive amounts, businesses can’t bleed money and this is what happens. Part of it is on them and part of it is on consumers not buying.

Yi-Long746d ago

Consumers ain't buying because of what they're selling; There is no new SSX or Burnout, everything is now Online Required, everything is 'service', etc.

Indies are still delivering the goods, perhaps even better than ever, because those are often the guys and gals who know what they want to make and just make that and hopefully we dig it as well and support it ...

... but when you look at those multi-million budget AAA games, are they improving on what we have had before? Is the new Forza Motorsport better than a Forza Mototsport 4? Is Halo Infinite better than Halo 3? Is Dragon Age 2 such a huge improvement over the first Dragon Age? Etcetc.

Yeah, graphics have gotten better, worlds have gotten better, but I think a gaming generations stands or falls with diversity and experiences, and a few gens ago we had access to whatever we wanted, so if we wanted a boxing game we picked up one of the boxing games, if we wanted snowboarding we'd pick up one of the snowboarding games, if we wanted to do a rythm game we had DJ Hero, or Guitar Hero, or Rockband. If we wanted to sneak around we had Splinter Cell or MGS or whatever.

We had variety and we had options, and that makes or breaks a generation, imo. You're in a foodcourt of games and they're serving all kinds of different cuisines, and so you'd pick and choose whatever you felt like that day.

Right now, you're in a restaurant, and you're only allowed to pick from one menu, and there's a dress-code, and you have to register, and you have to stay in your seat, etc etc.

The 5 best games on PlayStation Plus Premium that make subscribing worth it

The PS5 is an incredible console, and if you're lucky enough to have one, or have just received one for Christmas then you'll already know there is a host of great games out there.

What you may not be aware of is that if you subscribe to PlayStation Plus Extra or Premium, you'll actually get access to a huge catalogue of titles to play at any time. Many of which you can stream without having to do any downloads. If you have a PlayStation Portal you could even play these titles from your bed.

Abnor_Mal874d ago

Damn the only one I’ve played so far is Miles Morales, although I do own Control and Rift Apart.

ChasterMies874d ago

Odd list. Where is Horizon Forbidden West? Ghost of Tsushima? Demon’s Souls? Returnal? And fun indie games like Superliminal? Where’s “A Plage Tale Requiem” and “Evil West”, the current PS+ Essential offerings?

Exvalos862d ago

Evil west is underrated I'm having a really good time playing it.

juniorpop874d ago

Like seriously? Those are games Extra Tier can get - so not worth upgrading to Premium
