directx 12 could do wonders it seems for Xbox One.

Gazondaily3774d ago

Actually it seems like the PC version sees the radical improvements. Judging by the comment, the Xbox sees smaller improvements.

I don't think it'll work wonders on X1, just improve it generally.

If it, for instance, upped the resolution to 1080p etc then that's a significant improvement but I doubt its massive.

dreadz743774d ago

Fable Legends will use DirectX 12 (DX12) and we wondered why. Whyte said that by using DX12, the team was able to achieve “a significant amount of horsepower – resulting in increased visual fidelity, higher frame rates, and improved shadows and effects.” Whyte further said that, depending on the graphics card, the team saw “up to 40% faster performance” on DX12 as compared to DX11. He believes anything that helps improve the graphical quality in games will definitely be loved by gamers and developers alike, and we couldn’t agree more.

The Xbox was based on Direct X technology, and that’s where the X comes from. Since Fable Legends is also being released on the Xbox One and allows cross-play, we were curious to know how Microsoft’s latest machine would benefit from DX12. And from the looks of it, apparently quite a bit.

“Fable Legends is using a number of features on Xbox One,” said Whyte, “including asynchronous compute and efficient multi-threaded rendering.” This has led to improvements in rendering efficiency, which means that the developer can “push the visual bar higher than would otherwise be possible.” This also means that the Xbox One now has better graphical and computing capabilities without actually increasing the hardware, all thanks to DirectX 12.

This right here proves that those who said Xb1 would not get a boost from DX12 were very wrong. This is straight from the DEVS mouth. This is big news!

"This right here proves that those who said Xb1 would not get a boost from DX12 were very wrong. This is straight from the DEVS mouth. This is big news!"

Most people were saying that DX12 would not make a massive difference on the Xbox One and that doesn't appear to have changed. It'll lead to improved performance sure, but not in the big way some people have been propagating or expecting.

kstuffs3774d ago (Edited 3774d ago )

It's a huge improvement if these features allow them to reach 1080p at a solid 30 fps and hopefully 60 fps later as DX12 is fully utilized. MS has been calling the XB1 design as belonging to datacenter with supercomputing architecture.

http://wccftech.com/xbox-su...

“The GPUs are really complicated beasts this time around. In the Xbox 360 era, getting the most performance out of the GPU was all about ordering the instructions coming into your shader. It was all about hand-tweaking the order to get the maximum performance. In this era, that’s important – but it’s not nearly as important as getting all your data structures right so that you’re getting maximum bandwidth usage across all the different buffers. So it’s relatively easy to get portions of the GPU to stall. You have to have it constantly being fed.”

Multerer thinks that Xbox One’s hardware design is not different than a “Super-Computer Design.” According to him, we should expect to see “fairly large improvements in GPU output” in the coming time. What do you think about Multerer’s claims? Let us know in the comments.

What has been missing so far?: DirectX 12.

roxette923774d ago

you think dx 12 is the edge xbox one has over ps4?

vikingland13774d ago

This game has beautiful graphics, the beta has pleasantly suprised me.

Now I know why it looks so good.

Xbox one dx12 a match made in gaming have this is what dx12 was made for, in time all Xbox games will use it

The orginal prey 2 better be on this list.

And it is. Man if could've got this instead. Wonder why no one's step up to do this kinda game yet. I think there's one in development for pc, it's cyberpunk Era but it takes place in some huge apartment complex I think. Anyway I'm saying this not knocking the prey that came out cause I did enjoy that to but really wanted prey 2 (canceled)

Skuletor836d ago

I wonder if they never happened because they were cancelled 🤔 (stupid headline)

And I'll keep investing in supporting PSVR. VR can only get better from here. And thanks to Sony, console gamers have something new and fresh this generation that truly creates immersion. And with games like Blood and Truth, Everybody's Golf, Wipeout, Astrobot, the VR Worlds, the support and publishing of games like Farpoint and Firewall, the free experiences. Sony is definitely helping VR a lot.

I'd also like to thank Palmer, Carmack, Oculus and Valve, HTC,etc for pushing gaming forward. I'll also throw a bone to Microsoft and Nintendo for toe dipping.

DillyDilly2524d ago

Can't blame Microsoft or Nintendo in not immediately supporting a platform that is as of now not a huge success

NecrumOddBoy2524d ago

PSVR has sold nearly 4.5 million units. What in the actually flip are you talking about unsuccessful? It's the #1 VR platform on the market and Sony is killing it with incredible VR games like Moss, Astrobot, Batman, Blood and Truth, and 3 Justin Roiland games!

Silly gameAr2524d ago

So, they should only support something that's a huge success? Guess it makes sense. Why take chances on something that could be awesome for gamers, right?

xX-oldboy-Xx2524d ago

Dilly - Yet one of those is one if not the richest companies in the world. That alone should be alarm bells about ms intent with the game industry. They want to milk it dry, not push the industry forward.

Hardiman2524d ago

That's not how trends are set or history is made. Pushing the boundaries and investments in tech help push things forward!

Ozzy24072524d ago

What are you on about not a huge success Psvr is a massive success do your homework before posting or are you one if these VR haters out there who has never experienced VR

rainslacker2524d ago (Edited 2524d ago )

Yet somehow, when MS finally accepts VR, it'll somehow be the turning point for VR right? Same way it happened with streaming? Sony got into it years before everyone else, but can't blame MS or Nintendo for not getting into it, but give them all the credit when MS finally do? Remember that short lived time where MS said they'd have VR for X1X? Remember how much better it was going to be now that MS was in the fray...then it wasn't, and they were smart to get out? Yeah, MS is so smart to just use the hype to promote their other products, even if they have no intention of actually doing anything meaningful.

There are leaders, and followers. If they want to follow, that's fine, but give credit where it's due. Hell, even Nintendo has some modicum of VR...such as it is.

Funny thing about MS. They often follow into markets they don't see as viable early on. They fail at many of them. Zune. Cell Phones, hell, even the original smart phone model which they gave up on before they barely even got it released. Metro, GFWL, etc. So many things they try to get into when others show there is a viable and big market for it, to only come up short.

At least Nintendo is willing to go their own way, and do things that are unique to the market....sometimes foraging their own markets.

boing12524d ago

Whatever, it's too late for them anyway. Sony is already a king of room scale VR. Nothing will change that.

might as well, VR is the best damn thing that happened in gaming in a while.

Bigman4k2524d ago (Edited 2524d ago )

I really enjoy my psvr its really cool i mean from playing vr games to 3D movies also watching 360 videos on YouTube vr so im really happy i brought mines

Abnor_Mal2524d ago

Now that I've finally platinum Days Gone, I can finally get started on Bood and Truth and some other VR games that I've been sitting on for a while.

So glad Sony saw a future where VR was worth investing in and growing. We are now getting full games and not just experiences. Games being reformatted so they are playable in VR, and new games designed from the ground up for PSVR.

I've had fun using the device for YouTube VR, Virry, VRV, soon I will get the Chernobyl, Mars, Titanic and Mt. Everest experiences. Even using the headset on non VR games like Spider-Man PS4, swinging around the city is even more exhilarating.

Still waiting to see when the 3D Rudder foot controller will go on sale, I thought it was suppose to be this June, but a Gamestop employee said he believes it's due out next year.

rainslacker2524d ago

I'm really hoping Namco makes an Ace Combat with full VR support. Even if just an update to the current one. Would love more VR missions. Was an absolute amazing experience with a flight stick....although wouldn't recommend it if one isn't 100% on health as it can be nauseating. Even without the G-Forces, I have a new found respect for fighter pilots.

Abnor_Mal2523d ago

That would valve cool to get a full fledged Ace Combat VR game. I've played Ace7 and finished the campaign, but have not gone back to it yet since I'm trying to get through some of my backlog.

I have a flight stick that I bought a year and a half before Ace7 released just because I read there was going to be a new addition to the series, which I had been missing over the years. Assault Horizon doesn't count as a true Ace game but a spin off in my opinion.

I will soon do the VR flying to experience the thrill you've described. So starting this week will be Blood and Truth, Ace7 VR, and Driveclub VR.

rainslacker2523d ago

I wish I had pre-ordered AC7 just for the AC pre-order game that you got. Sadly, I didn't, and you can't download that.:(

Dunno if my flight stick will work on the PS3 to go back and play some of those games there. Loved AC7 though. Controller I hated with the pitch/roll controls, but worked great with a stick.

I got eve:Valkyrie too, but haven't really been able to get into it for some reason. Keep meaning to try some other flight sim games since they haven't been high on my list this gen.

Abnor_Mal2523d ago (Edited 2523d ago )

Yea I did get Ace5 as a bonus, loved that game on the PS2, my friend and I would just take turns sharing the game and trying to best each others time.

Never even looked in Eve Valkyries direction because it seemed too convoluted. Not sure if that was the game that tied into another larger mmo type game where one game actions affects the other.

The flight stick I bought is a Thrustmaster T Flight Hotas 4, which is compatable with the PS3/4 so I'm wondering if Assault Horizon will work since that had a secondary control scheme but not sure of flight stick controls. The flight stick box has a stick for War Thunder but I never even downloaded the game.

What other flight games are you aware of that could work a stick? There's another VR game that I bought that's in outer space I think its called End Space, not sure. Fun game will have to see what's what and if so, give it a go.

That sucks that they did not give an option to be able to download Ace5, by now they should allow it. Ace5 I would have thought they would make fully VR since it's an old game and not really graphics heavy compared to today's games. It would have been perfect and softened the blow when realizing Ace7 only had three VR levels.

Check your stick and see if it has a switch for PS3/4, even my Thrustmaster T150 steering wheel has a switch for last gen systems.

rainslacker2523d ago

I wouldn't say Eve: Valkyrie is more convoluted. It's essetially the same kind of control. But the controls feel more floaty...which is probably closer to what it'd be like flying in a zero-G environment. Just takes getting used to, and I went to it straight from AC7, so it was more distracting. I'll give it another go at some point.

Glad to hear and I will keep supporting it as well.....this technology is a really game changer..... Unfortunately, I can't say the same for streaming gaming
