The familiarity of some so-called AAA games - yes. It's ironic that the majority cite Mario, Zelda for not changing when in fact it's games closer to home which are the problem. Assassins Creed, Halo, Uncharted - you would be hard pressed to explain to a 'casual' the difference between each.

Whereas Nintendo's staple IP's offer change with each gen/variation. My advice with anybody losing interest in videogames...give Nintendo a try.

I'm bored with with gritty 100 hour open world games. I'm sick of them already. I want more fantasy, more 3d platformers, more jrpg's, and more arcadey types of games. Im tired of all the realism. I also want developers to dig deep into their imaginations and make new concepts. Not rehashes of old ones with a new skin.

In the past I've agreed with certain articles that feel the same way I do, but regardless of that I have to state something that's really annoying about video game websites.

I feel like there is no point in a lot of them, like almost 90 to 95% of them are just copy and paste of the same thing.

When websites produce the video content is when you really stand out from the rest, only a few do a good job with editorial alone.

It's like any of us here on N4G can start a website and make sure to cover the standard click bait topics.

Now do I care for any of the games that he considers boring? Not at all, maybe a little bit towards dreams because I'm a fan of MM, but was it necessary to write a article about it? I fully understand that it's considered a opinion piece, but really all he said was some games look boring, so basically it was a long worded tweet.

I'm speaking for multiplayer games when I say this gen has underperformed so far. This gen hasn't went as I envisioned it back when next gen consoles where first announced. After playing games like warhawk, star hawk , battlefield bad company 2, uncharted, DC universe etc. I had high hopes for this gen but so far there has been a bunch of mediocrity and it almost seems like the people in charge of making these games aren't taking chances anymore. They aren't trying to push next gen gameplay experiences forward and instead are opting for higher frame rates, resolution etc. I'm starting to wonder will we ever get any multiplayer games that will push this gen forward gameplay wise. It seems making money and trying to capitalize off tried and true concepts that have been done to death is the way most of these publishers/developers are going. Nobody is taking any risks and trying to mix it up Or add to the formula

The article has some...interesting choices in words (somehow knowing gameplay mechanics on games not released yet with their "No Man's Sky" and Elite Dangerous comparison). But, they have a point.

They want a game with clear goals and set places to explore. That's just more of their style. I can agree with the huge worlds, though.

For me, the games that have been coming out have had vast worlds, but nothing in them. The most infamous, to me, has to be Dragon Age:Inquisition. So much world, so little to do and see. And that is without the gameplay (very "meh" in my opinion.

These big new games just don't give me that twinkle in my eyes I had when I played games before because of how bland they are.

I kinda have to agree. Developers need to focus more on making their games fun/addicting and keeping the audiences attention for the full length of the game. Basically keeping them on the edge of their seats. Also most gamers, don't want to have to think TOO much when playing a video game. I think it's great to have a great looking game, but if there is no substance behind it, the average gamer with his short attention span will get bored quickly. Stop trying to make games overly artistic, while sacrificing fun gameplay.

Well there´s always a solution ,just like i ussually do, pick up an old gem that you never played and you might get a nice surprise.

For example i still had beyond good and evil hd (PS3) on hold and ive played up to 100% and loved every minute of it, same thing goes for War of the Monsters (PS2 emulated on PS4) i never played the game before and now its on my favorite games from the PS2 era.

Older games are the solution for boredom from modern games back when creativity and gameplay were something else unlike many games these days that play and look so much alike to each other.
