Video Games Need Single Player Campaigns

Not exactly that game. Well maybe something like Crash CTR or Diddy Kong Racing might work, or something like Mario Kart for Rocket League. Any other type of games does need a SP campaign.

Not every game needs a campaign, just like not every game needs a multiplayer mode.

This! Let us all remember, especially the sp campaign crowd. If you're gonna scream at the top of your lungs not every game needs mp the same logic applies to sp.

The worst part is if devs listened to these folks we wouldn't have UC mp and a bunch of other mp modes that have proven to be extremely fun, despite the naysayers.

No it doesn't. A game needs to have good gameplay and content regardless of the mode. Plus, every game wouldn't work well with a single player campaign.

I feel like major studios are trying to short change us by offering only multiplayer experiences. Remember how short and incoherent Destiny was when it first came out?

Or rainbow six siege? A game I used to play a ton of couch co-op with now narrowed down to a $60 online only game?

Or evolve? With all its cool characters it begged for some sort of campaign.

Or battlefront? Fighting the battle of hoth over and over again.. wish there was a story mode. Still $60 bucks tho.

Titan fall? Again $60 dollars for something I tired of very quickly.

And what about For Honor? They say it will have a campaign but it will probably be a training for the MP

I don't think they're short changing us for making mp only games, I think they're short changing us by charging for full price for them, especially when many of these games also have season passes.

Yeah I feel more shortchanged spending $60 on a one and done game that I get MAYBE 10-20 hours out of versus a game I get 100-200 hours out of.

I don't mind if it's 60$. As long as it's WORTH 60$ it can be Online Only, Offline Only, King Tut Only don't matter make it worth it in content.

I think those games are aimed at people who don't really care about the SP. It's gotten to the point where a MP only game can exist and make money, and since they sell a lot, and typically have an ongoing revenue stream through DLC/MT, the publishers aren't expending the money anymore to get those extra sales from the people who would buy the game for a SP campaign.

It's a shame too, because some of those games I probably would find enjoyable...although FPS isn't something I'm a big fan of, but I really dislike the MP experience because I'm an anti-social a**hole who doesn't care to play others online....plus I usually tire of them fast for their monotonous repetitive nature and grindy game play. I love couch co-op or MP though, because I routinely play with friends in the same room. We have our own little gamers club where we go to each others houses once a week and play games, so it's great to be able to do it all together in one place. Sadly, those experiences may be lessened in the future as well.:(

Single player is the lifeline for most of my gaming enjoyment. It's what I've been raised on and what I've played even now outside of a few exceptions of course like fighters/only online games/etc. I do respect what online gaming can bring and what it has brought to gaming, but there is nothing like an amazing single player experience. That feeling you get when you finished a game all by yourself with your own effort and hard work put into it while at the same time still hopefully had a lot of fun. It's uncomparable.

A lot of young kids today who are getting their PS4s probably haven't been raised on single player like I have. I'm in my 20s and I was playing single player before online gaming was even out on consoles so maybe I'm just getting old. Online games come and go all the time but that single player experience. Man it's just untouchable. I recently beat The Last of Us for the first time and it was simply amazing. I didn't even touch the online even though it is great. I just don't care for online gaming anymore. I wanted to experience just the single player alone with me and only me.

The PS3 and PS4 got a lot of people hooked to online gaming which is awesome but I'm still in my PS1 and PS2 mentality where I just played the games by myself. I can't describe the satisfaction I get for just playing a game alone in the game world the developers built from the ground up and I'm immersed in it. Seeing the great stories,characters,levels/stag es all by yourself. It's a very personal thing.

SP is still the dominate market out there. They aren't going away any time soon. Just there is a lot more MP nowadays. I know there are people that only play MP, but for the most part, the vast majority of people can play both SP and MP games, or any combination of the two.

I grew up in the SP days, and I love SP games because I find them to have more depth. I enjoy the occasional online MP, but most of the time I just don't find it a fun experience...and if I do find it fun, it usually isn't fun for very long. The problem with MP, assuming the game is good...and sometimes if it's bad...is that online MP is infested with other people, and those other people more often than not, and eventually without fail, ruin my enjoyment of it.

I enjoy playing with people I know online, so I can get into some MMO's, but most of the MP nowadays doesn't excite me one bit. Couch co-op, I can typically have a blast in regardless of if a game is good or not, because it's more about the experience you're having with friends.

I never buy sp only games new, what's the point? As a consumer im Better off waiting until a complete edition for a much lower price with all the bugs fixed. Overall a much better experience by waiting. Same story as upon release with even more content.

Unlike mp games where it's extremely detrimental to your experience if you're more than a month late to the party. I'm always thankful and chuckle alittle when I see a game is sp only, saves me money.

Yes, SP campaigns will always be a thing. SP has a market, just like MP has a market. Publishers would be stupid to disregard a market totally. They can make games which focus on one market, or try to capture both markets. It will probably be this way as long as games exist in their current form(even accounting for upgraded versions of those same games).

The few people who believe that MP has somehow supplanted SP as the majority of gaming, or the majority of gamers are misinformed or idiots. The vast majority of games today include a SP campaign. In fact, the vast majority of games are SP only, and the MP only games are actually rather few. The SP/MP games(which include both in some form) are becoming more common, but they are typically built to focus on one of the other, and you can tell what that focus is from looking at the marketing materials.

When you show your Multiplayer portion of a game first, chances are that this game's campaign might be just something simple like R6 Seige training mode.

We don't know how a campaign will be like but i wont get my hopes up at all.

It is certainly disappointing when a game that uses Tom Clancy's name doesnt have a storymode. If they made a game that had some elements of RB6 and just changed the name it wouldnt be a big deal that it came out to be, and them showing a singleplayer mode a few years back and canceling it, doesnt help. There should be a rule where if a AAA developer cant wait until the game is past the concept stage then why bother to show it, I understand small studios need funding so thats why they do it but multi million dollar studios dont need to show off concept gaming that only hurts the fans when it doesnt work out.

Some do, some don't. Give gamers the choice. I prefer single player because I love deep storied content and it's hard to coordinate times to play with friends because of work schedules.

They have the choice buy a MP game or a SP one.

I don't like fighters am I to expect the devs to acknowledge this and throw in a shooter mode

Games like BF4 really would not feel like they lack content of a campaign was excluded.

I see absolutely no reason to see value in some tacked on piece of crap SP experience when there are plenty of SP focused games doing a million times better. The only game I can think of that should of had a campaign was Battlefront, but if you think you would have gotten a full experience you are probably mistaken and if you did do you really think that game would have came out when it did? Lets be real here a game that has a completely dedicated MP and SP is a very rare and costly project that would take many years to develop. The games that get this treatment see a new entry every 3+ years. Even last gen I could name many games that just recycled assets and had some crappy story told poorly.

MP may die eventually however having a tacked on piece of crap to play as an alternative does not really help you relive those memories.

There is no reason a successful new MP IP could not develop its own popular universe and spawn a killer SP entry.

Sometimes it just feels like MPs are just a huge free for all. I doubt they will die because of the king of the hill attitude. They just won't have the staying power of say halo 3 because now there are so many constantly coming out and offering something fresh. Not my cup of tea though.

I agree with this. It's the reason I haven't bought Battlefront. That and the fact that it's a criminally small price tag for the amount of content you get.

I don't think every game should have single player however my only gripe about multiplayer titles is usually the pricing. In my opinion, I haven't played a multiplayer only game that is worth 60 dollars.
