What's up with hating on popular games like Undertale?

All the best charming and unique indie RPGs are part of the 8 Best Games Like Undertale.

Asgore is often reduced to being either a ruthless dictator or an absolute wuss by the fandom, despite being incredibly layered.

Callum Marshal writes: "I want to catalog some of the best indie gaming moments I have ever had the pleasure of witnessing firsthand, and I hope that, in doing so, I unlock a core memory for you. So, without further delay, here is Indie Game Culture’s list of the best Indie Gaming Moments of All Time!"
People can not like a game without hating it. I know that's not the popular theory but it's true.
I will say Undertale has spawned a Five Nights At Freddy's like 'fandom' which just constantly spews out meme after meme. That probably doesn't help
I'll sometimes get slightly annoyed when it seems like people are going overboard when praising a game or developer. There's really no reason to be bothered by it, so I leave it alone. I think the opposite side of my coin is the people that make sure they tell people they are wrong, at least in their eyes about something. That is a huge waste of time, and just makes you look like a miserable person. Particularly when people are talking about "GOTY", people tend to get even more catty. It's like that with everything on the internet, and that's why I don't involve myself very often.
Dark souls and bloodborne should have a difficulty slider. They are not hard enough which makes them super annoying.
Undertale is only popular in certain places on the internet. It might get hate for its fanbase and the sprawling critical reception it got.
It's very funny when I see hate for Skyrim though and it comes from people that like Oblivion even though that is the worst TES game and it literally does a very small amount of things better than Skyrim like having classes that give you abilities from the get-go, and the thieves and dark brotherhood questline.
Mass Effect 3 did not get backlash from being popular, everyone knows it got backlash for having a shitty ending even though there were other problems in the game.
You'll see Bethesda games getting increased criticism more and more because from a design perspective, their games have been the same since Morrowind and playing the same game over and over brings diminishing returns when they aren't improving in a substantial way. The same happens to COD but COD is yearly so the complaints are louder, it stays in people's memories more easily and it is more difficult to hide its flaws there.
