Can Origin Access take down Steam?

Taken from IM PLAYIN

"Bringing Bill Nye out for a commercial is a pretty great move by anyones standards. Does that mean Origin Access will be a great new way to play PC games? Will they be bold enough to take down the big titan that is Steam?"

Lol I have a better chance of winning the Powerball. Few games to choose from, small portion of the game unlocked and a tiny discount won't even put a dent in Steam.

ThinkBadMonkey3761d ago

They need to up the amount of games they offer somehow. Some of the games on there get so old you can probably pick them up for a £1 on Steam anyway!

Paytaa3761d ago

Yeah Steam still has too much of a hold on the PC market for Origin to even really do anything. It's going to stay that way for a long time. Nobody I know even uses Origin because Steam is just the go to and people trust Valve more than EA.

Eonjay3761d ago (Edited 3761d ago )

Whats origin? No seriously, how does that even work mathematically? Taking down steam I mean. How does one do that?

Dark_Crow3761d ago

One does not simply take down steam.

slappy5083761d ago

Nope I hate origins so much if a multiplatform game requires it, I buy it for console instead if I want to play it. Steam is king baby, get at least a 1000 more games in your library and then we talk

thorstein3761d ago

Bad news. Garden Warfare, et al require an origin account linked to your console account in order to play it.

The other day, Origin was having login problems but the Battlefront servers were fine. People couldn't log in couldn't play.

I had to create origin accts for my kids to play Garden Warfare. Such a waste.

I treat uPlay like that but I will not play Dragon Age and Mass Effect on consoles. I will play with maxed out everything at 1600p.

Ubisoft and uPlay is absolutely horrendous and I will only play their games on consoles or not at all.

EA's Origin is just ok and has limited games. It isn't absolutely horrendous like uPlay is.

slappy5083761d ago

I hate Uplay too, I bought far cry 4 for consoles, I'm not into assassins creed so I've ignored those anyways- I'm trying trying to decide if I want to play The division on console where some of my friends are or super slick aiming with a mouse and higher framerate-
You are right about Dragon age Inquisition though, although a good game I would've preferred a keyboard and mouse and have everything hot keyEd I'm probably going for massistance effect 4 on pc, but I won't buy it off Origins (the main reason I don't download games from there is EA makes more money this way but also I don't want steam and origins running)

DragoonsScaleLegends3761d ago (Edited 3761d ago )

Isn't Origin only for EA games? I don't see EA alone beating every other publisher, no chance in hell.

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Jingsing8d ago

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Tanktopmaster928d ago

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit8d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing8d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster928d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse
