Assassin's Creed doesn't need a year off, some gamers are the ones who do

Assassin's Creed doesn't "need a year off." Instead, it is a smaller number of vocal gamers who echo a sentiment of distain toward the franchise who need a year off from it.

I think a yr off is a great idea. Come back huge!

mocaak3655d ago

Yup, last time they had a year off they brought Assassin's Creed II. Hope we will get something on that level.

DragonKnight3655d ago

Sorry Fox, but yes.

A game taking a year off will not make it better when it comes back if the same people with the same bad ideas are running its development. Bad ideas don't have expiration dates.

But those people who don't like the games have the right to skip them, but don't have the right to have those games removed from the people who still enjoy the franchise. My guess is you don't play them anyway, so why do you care if others do?

ninsigma3655d ago

The idea is they take the extra time to refresh the series, not take a years break then continue releasing as usual. If what the rumour says is true that they are taking a year off from a major release and doing this again from the ground up and giving it a compelling story again then I'd definitely jump back into the series. No one is saying to take it away (ok some are), just take a year out of schedule to make it better. Don't you think that would be in the best interests of everyone??

ziggurcat3655d ago

@DK

i think he's saying "no" to the suggestion that gamers are the ones that need to take a year off...

ChunkyHD3655d ago

Sorry Dragon, Accidentally pressed that i agree with you. I do not (-1 agree, +1 disagree).

DragonKnight3655d ago

@ninsigma: Nope, I don't, because like I said before bad ideas don't have expiration dates. Taking a year off to "refresh" the series won't work if the same people responsible for the series being arguably stagnant are still calling the shots and still responsible for the main direction the games are taking. They need to fire the creative director, that's the first thing they need to do. They then need to fire all the writers. Then they'll have solved their problems.

Get rid of those people and the next AC game can come out tomorrow better than ever. Keeping them on, waiting a year, and then releasing a new AC game will still probably give us another Unity or Syndicate. That's why "time off" doesn't matter.

Goldby3655d ago

@DK's last comment.

Firing the Creative Director and Writers wont fix the problem, just create 2 more.

the Creative Director is the man in charge yes, but they aren't his ideas, and yes some have been bad, they were probably the best at the time with the yearly release schedule to keep up.

not with more time, they can dive deeper into ideas that were just that before, ideas... "what ifs".

a Year without an assassin creed is exactly what the world needs. not just the gamers but the devs need some much needed vacay time and then 18 months of hard work instead of 12 months of work in 8

Development is always an indication of quality. So let the series rest for a bit.

Mikefizzled3655d ago (Edited 3655d ago )

Since I'm getting so many disagrees I'll add to my point. Dead Island, Spore, Duke Nukem, Aliens Colonial Marines and Daikatana. All in developments for at least 5 years, all of which were either terrible or very underwhelming.
Assassin's Creed is suffering from franchise fatigue, something is that is exacerbated by multiple studios working round from each other. They follow in GTA's footsteps of open world game that changes with every new release yet have more people working on it and still produce less. Giving them more development time wouldn't change the game dramatically. It would still be a Ubisoft game at its core, with Ubisoft a style open world and the same heartless and meaningless side missions and tasks.

DragonKnight3655d ago

Franchise fatgue is a myth. Development time only affects superficial aspects of a game such as graphical quality or stability, bad ideas are always bad because of the people behind them. Whether 2 years, or 20,bad ideas don't expire. It's the people with the bad ideas that need to go, not increasing dev time.

kraenk123655d ago

He was talking about development...not development time. They should take their time to further develop their franchise instead of just releasing the same game every year!

phantomexe3655d ago

I don't want them to take a year off. I dont see the logic at all in what some people are saying. Its as simple as you dont like the AC games don't buy them. AC is bigger then just the games. We got comics, toys, novels and now a movie and people like myself love there games. Lots of people love there games they sell a shit load of games. Why can't you just play what you want and let me and millions of others play what we like.

-Foxtrot3655d ago

You mean buy it where the same people will just complain how it's not what it used to be only for them to defend it when the new one is announced and fall into the same cycle over and over

No, for their sake and Ubisofts it needs to take a break.

Seafort3655d ago

Ubisoft need to go back to basics and figure out the next step as the current Assassin's Creed has become stale and unoriginal.

This is coming from someone who has all the AC to date.

It started off so promising in AC1. The next games we're good but they all followed the same cut/paste formula from thereon out.

I don't feel like an Assassin any more but a Collect-a-Bot hoovering up all the collectibles dotted around the place.

It needs a year or 2 break so it can come back fresh and revitalised.

KTF263655d ago

Ubisoft needs this more than Assassin's Creed
This year they already have 4 AAA titles
For Honor, Far Cry Primal, The Division, Ghost Recon Wild Land

4 AAA titles from one publisher in one year is enough
they need to sell these game and another AC most likely will harm the sale

not to mention the tough competition from other publishers
there are a lot of AAA titles this year

trywizardo3655d ago

AC in Egypt is many players dream , if they need to take two years off to make it perfect ok , if its ready and have no problems and they will release it this year good too
but no half and broke games , specially if its something big like that

Eldyraen3655d ago

Feudal Japan or China is my dream but Egypt has huge potential. So does all of the ancient Assassins that had statues in Ezio's underground lair that crossed the globe.

trywizardo3655d ago

couldn't agree more , from Babylon and ancient Egypt to china roman and Persia
And if i remember the info on the Egypt assassin he/she had killed Cleopatra :D

It is amazing what's available. Blue Dragon. Binary Domain. AVP. Chaos Theory. Lots of gems to be had.

glennhkboy415d ago

There is no re-start option (that I can find). Since I've already finished the story years ago, I can't re-start it to check the new update.

Assassin's Creed Syndicate - Play Now at 60 FPS on Xbox Series X|S, PS5 and PS5 Pro

Revisit the Assassin fantasy and take down your enemies more smoothly than ever on Assassin's Creed Syndicate’s free 60 FPS patch.

M3talDiamond424d ago (Edited 424d ago )

AC Unity next Please! despite the technical issues it was a good game even though it was too ambitious for PS4 and Xbox One the graphics hold up well. I would love to see it on PS5 and Xbox Series Consoles

Chocoburger424d ago

YES, update Unity to 4K 60! I loved the French revolution setting, I even enjoyed playing CO-OP online, its too bad that they removed it from Syndicate, but the incredibly negative reaction from Unity (mostly because it was rushed out 4 - 6 months too soon), made Ubisoft think we didn't want the mode to come back.

dantesparda423d ago

Another vote for AC Unity!

jznrpg424d ago (Edited 424d ago )

Is Syndicate any good? I own them all since they end up in the bargain bin but I haven’t played one through since Black Flag

Rebel_Scum423d ago

Its one of the better one’s. Would make anyone’s top 7 AC game easily.

Ninver423d ago

That's not saying much. Most of the AC games after 2 are sub par in my opinion.

glennhkboy423d ago

Personally, this is a "Not Bad" grade. The gang warfare part is fun. You should give it a go since you already own it.

Gamingsince1981423d ago

The combat is fun, the setting is great and the characters are pretty good, I'd put it up just below black flag.

jznrpg423d ago (Edited 423d ago )

Thanks to those who replied, I’ll give it a go sometime

andy85424d ago

Give me a new trophy set 😂

Chocoburger424d ago (Edited 424d ago )

If you've read my comments here before, you know damn well that I'm always quick to mock Ubisoft, but in this case, its good news. Glad to see that Syndicate went from being almost broken on PS5 BC, to receiving a free 60 FPS update patch.

While this game did have grind elements, and skill trees, it wasn't exhaustively grindy like the later games would end up being. The London setting was amazing, too, and the soundtrack by Austin Wintory was fantastic. I really liked playing as a brother and sister duo as well.

It was a good game, and the last one in the series I truly enjoyed.

Why are the patch sizes so different between Xbox Series and PlayStation 5? Its a 35 GBs difference.

Patch notes:

Xbox (~31.8 GB)

Xbox Series X
4K resolution at 60 fps
Xbox Series S
1080p resolution at 60 fps

PlayStation (~0.75 GB)

PS5 and PS5 Pro
1080p resolution at 60 fps
4K resolution at 60 fps

Deeeeznuuuts423d ago

31GB more that is pretty substantial isn't it, strange

Chocoburger423d ago

The PS5 Pro patch was only 171 MBs, so its even smaller than Ubisoft's claim of 0.75 GB.

Some people hypothesized that the PlayStation exclusive content (Darwin and Dickens missions) would be coming to Xbox for the first time with the new patch, but it wasn't added. A patch this large is clearly redownloading the entire game all over again, the dev team made that choice for a reason, we just don't know what that reason is.

Underrated that's debatable.

chicken_in_the_corn780d ago

One of the most overrated imo. A big step backwards from Unity.

Relientk77780d ago

I loved Syndicate! I played this game mostly as Evie because of her stealth abilities and loved using a cane sword.
