AC does need a break, but i usually play them eventually. I just bought unity for $10, so it's great at that price. I would never purchase AC full price though.

If they want to keep milking the franchise instead of letting it retire gracefully and using those resources to create something new and exciting, then they should upgrade the next installment with some innovation. Not just a new location. either way this article is as retarded as saying Tom Clancy's The Division is the next Destiny. Has the author played through every single AC game in their entirety and is honestly looking forward to more?

I can agree to a point. I only buy the ones that are in locations or time periods that intrest me. I have bought and played 1,2, and black flag. The only other ones i will buy is Egypt and Japan, or something in Chinese dynasty eras, even something in the Khan eras

Well this Assassin's Creed did terrible compared to all the others that get 6,7,10 million copies sold. Assassin's Creed Syndicate only managed to sell 2.61 units to date. So finally we see the consumer slowing moving on towards newer experiences and forcing Ubisoft to rethink their future prospects of the series.

Lol the AF franchise has fallen far since its peak with AC 2.

I think it does need a break. I loved the ac games but it's grown tired at this point because they're much the same. Taking a year off to re-think it, Innovate with it and re-freshen the series is a great idea. They won't lose the fans they have but they could bring back fans who jumped ship. They completely lost themselves on the storey I thought so to rethink it and reign it back would be great!

Why not let us make our own assassin? What about giving us moral choices? Perhaps they can allow us to join templars or assassins?

I think it's better for the series to go at least in a two year cycle to make better progress between the entries.

Black flag is the first AC game I have played and I think it is awesome .

What a silly ass argument. If Ubisoft made the conscious decision to give the game (and their employees) the time it needs to be fresh again, then there's obviously something a little more at work than an apparent vocal minority of gamers. I don't know how they did an assassin game with pirates before they've had ninjas, but attacking gamers for this decision makes you look rather immature. It just comes off as someone whining who can't get their annual release, instead of realizing that Ubisoft most likely doesn't want yet another downgrade situation this generation, when they have a lot on their plate as it is.

Ubisoft, leave AC alone for awhile. It has gotten stale, with a new game being released every year. The series has so much potential, but it'll never reach that potential, if you keep releasing a new game every year.

A year off wouldn't be a bad idea in my opinion. Black Flag was amazing, Unity was great...but not at launch. Turns out Syndicate is amazing as well, but all the duplicate enemies is annoying. An extra year would probably allow for better variety of enemies and such.
I love the franchise, and it'll be a game I miss if one doesn't release this year, but it could only help in terms of quality and franchise fatigue.

It all comes down to what they plan on doing with that extra time. Having 3 towers to climb instead of 2 isnt much of an improvement.

Some of you here are funny. So many of you keep going with the "they need to make something new they're all the same!" when...that's...like...the point.

You all realize that it's a FRANCHISE right? You all realize that like MOST franchises they all follow the same basic formula, right? Halo, Gears of War, Devil May Cry, God of War, etc...I don't see anyone saying that these are all the same so what difference does it make if Assassin's Creed is? Sure AC has more releases but it's not like they're the same at all.

AC1 was the beginning.
AC2 added onto AC1 by being larger, having better crowds and game mechanics and controls
AC3 I actually didn't play but heard it wasn't that good anyways (they can't all be!)
AC4 added freaking PIRATING AND NAVAL COMBAT! HOW IS THIS NOT MAD DIFFERENT?!
Unity added much better controls and, while nothing ground breaking, was certainly a next-gen version with much better graphics and crowds and the multiplayer and co-op had never been done before
Syndicate adds two different characters you can switch to on the fly, horse and buggies you can ride, the tether line so you can move around quicker, gangs, etc.

And this is just the stuff I can remember. I know that each game has had a load of other changes from the previous but what I listed alone is pretty damn good!

So yeah...sure the core game is the same but that's true of all franchises. GTA is just a person running around shooting, stealing cars, etc. Halo is just some guy running around shooting bad guy aliens and driving around in Warthogs. But the difference is that each iteration adds something new to the core game play and world you play in.

Assassin's Creed is no different. So you can all go a head and downvote me all you want while not providing any counter argument but that doesn't make what I say any less true.

Plus, as others have said, if you're a fan of the franchise then you enjoy all the games, as I have for the most part. If you aren't then just don't play them. What's the matter with that? I mean, really? If they don't tickle your fancy then don't worry about it as I do with all the games and genres I don't really care for.

The more time a developer has, the more time they have to actually make changes from one iteration to the next. How do people not understand this.

I love the AC series but i'm glad they are adding more time to the next ones dev time as it can only improve on an already solid foundation and you never know it might come back stronger and better than ever because of it.

Was one of the best AC games for me until it glitched on the next to last mission and locked me from ending it. Had a lot of crashes along the way too - on PS4.

Thought it was the AC where they finally got to where they wanted on the movement and traversal - was super fun just to grapple around, and even the running felt smooth. But then it bugged on me in the 2nd to last mission.
