Do Videogames Need Combat?

There are many examples of popular games that don’t feature some form of combat, but in pure sales and dominance they come nowhere near the titles that sell millions and millions of copies because they give you the ability to shoot something or battle real-life competitors.

Well, yes and no. Because game like Halo, COD, Mass Effect and other need combat just to have fun. Other don't need a combat to have fun like Journey and Swap. But game need a experience for gamer to enjoy like puzzles, platform, shooting and many more. Game also need a challenge for gamer to test their skill. I'm enjoy playing shooting game because i'm a huge shooter fan myself, but i do enjoy some other games don't need a combat mechanics.

I want combat in most games. Do not like games who pretend to be a movie.

Combat is the quickest means to create conflict, which is needed in anything to create and raise dramatic tension. Having said that, just because it's the quickest means doesn't make it the simplest. You only really appreciate a good combat system after you've been hands-on with a bad one.

I'm confused by your context of "just because it's the quickest means doesn't make it the simplest"...mostly because of the last sentence.

Do you mean that to have an effective conflict, you have to have good combat? Or do you mean that the quickest means isn't used as the simplest way to introduce a antagonist to the experience? The latter I think is used as the quickest way to add conflict because it is the simplest, whereas the former, I actually agree with.

I think people take combat in games for granted because it's so commonplace, and in a lot of games it's such a functional feature that you don't really notice it until it's not doing its job properly . So I mean the former, I guess.

The actor who portrayed Zoltan Chivay in The Witcher series of games has died

Alexander Morton, the Scottish actor probably best known for starring in British comedy drama Monarch of the Glen - but known to me for being the hilariously foul-mouthed dwarf Zoltan Chivay in The Witcher 2 and The Witcher 3 - has died aged 81.

3x less sales than Playstation.
3x less consoles sold than Playstation.

Per captita, it averages out that the same number of users are buying CDP games regardless of platform, no?

Bathyj48d ago

The exact same or possibly more because a series S, initial investment and effort to Port to Xbox consoles for a third of the return.

Simply not worth it

“ Simply not worth it”

And yet, basically every game comes to Xbox.

NotoriousWhiz48d ago (Edited 48d ago )

A third is a pretty big number to be honest. Like would you rather make 15 million or 20 million? That's the difference that a third makes.

Hey it’s ok. They are really impressed with XBOx’s new CEO so exclusivity is on the way. 😂

Ok but I mean be logical ... modern PC, Switch, PS4 PS5 then you have XBOX, of all of those XBOX is probably only 10 percent... I mean, what do you expect? 10 percent increase in sales is still nothing to sneeze at, remember - this is CD projekt red and they sell a lot of software. 10 percent of their sales is probably what most studios DREAM of selling .... just playing devils advocate..... its easy to say LOL haha XBOX.... but.. I mean we know what it is at this point. I havent bought on since my xbox one X and before that I only used other peoples xboxes since the OG XBOX and stick with PC and Playstation and switch OLED, but .. I mean.... theres nothing WRONG with an xbox considering its just not the best - but they work fine. make no mistake.
