This game has way to many patches.
I haven't even installed the previous one.
Game works fine without them.

DarkLordMalik3795d ago

If you buy The Witcher 3 from retail, you will have to download approximately 17GB+ of patches before you can play the game. I mean you can play it unpatched but there is no guarantee if the save data will work with the latest patched version.

Tehcnala3795d ago

It doesn't. If you start on vanilla, can't load and play with update. Vanilla on ps4 looked better but played worse

3-4-53795d ago

So 35 GB + 17GB of patches...

Next gen is seriously going to have to give is much large HDs + make installing a bit quicker.

* At least they are updating and making the game better rather than ignoring it though.

Dyldog693795d ago

Exactly why this should not have been game if the year

extermin8or3795d ago

Exactly why games will exist on disk for a long while some people simply can't download 53 gb's jn a reasonable timeframe.

Kal-V33795d ago

The 17GB REPLACES data from the game installation so it is not 35GB+17GB. People should know how these things work before complaining.

fiveby93795d ago

21st century problems. ;) But I can see if one is on a slower internet connection this is a pain. I am fortunate to have fiber.

I mean the game is a daunting achievement by the developers met by deadlines. The one thing I hope they get done is the ability to change font size.

Xb1ps43795d ago (Edited 3795d ago )

This is a great game and on top of it I got it digital for $25.the game is huge and has many things to do, and many things to skip till you level up lol... The only annoying thing I came across was one time by a beach he seemed to be kneeling down through a fight with quite a few regular ppl, I died then the game didn't load but it restarted in the same general area.... Other then that the game has been fine and, again, as huge as the game is it is less buggy than a fall out game.

The font size should be fixed I agree on that, I mean why do most of these games have tiny font sizes? However, what I would like to see patched is the voice acting when on a mission and they decide to talk.. For some reason you have to be in a perfect angle to hear what they have to say so if they are behind you forget about, then on top of the small font and scoungering around you're left wondering wtf was just said...

And is it too damn much for them to state exactly what they are patching?! A list of things that will be patched would be nice!

Sunny_D3795d ago

In regards to restarting in the same area... That will always happen when he gets killed by guards. They take your money too and then leave. It's a feature of the game. Also, CDPR do release what their patches do. If you go on the dash of the ps4 and highlight TW3 icon, click the options button. Then you can click "update history"

trywizardo3795d ago

those alone will make you update
Fixes appearance on screen of unwanted visual artifacts after Geralt was teleported to new locations.
Improves transitions between distinct scenes and gameplay sequences.

thekhurg3795d ago (Edited 3795d ago )

Yeah too many patches. They should just ignore their game post launch like other developers do...

*rolls eyes*

Takwin3795d ago

I have probably read 10,000+ comments on N4G over the years, and yours is, without a doubt, just one of the dumbest ones.

It is so many levels of stupid I feel like it is obvious, but I still wanted to chime in.

Still laughing at it.

nitus103795d ago

The first patch I downloaded was 15GB and now this patch is 17GB, it is lucky that I have unlimited downloads but within two weeks I will have downloaded 32GB just for this game.

It would be even worse with a digital download since you would be downloading over 35GB and then you still have this patch to download.

I won't deny that this is one of the best open world RPG's that I have played but as someone who has had experience in software design patches like this are huge. Have the software designers ever heard of modular programming? I mean why not create a suite of DLL's and only apply patches to the libraries that need modification.

thekhurg3795d ago

Their large patches improve performance, which re-writes large portions of their data structure to allow for more optimized streaming.

masterfox3795d ago (Edited 3795d ago )

I start playing this game almost a month ago spend like 100 hrs, level 19(lots of sidequests) and this is the first patch I received today on my PS4, so what da hell are you talking about ?, probably playing arkham knight on PC ? :D

Bahamut3795d ago

Why the hell wouldn't you want to download patches? Especially from CD Projekt, who spends so much time on fixing so many things. This game is absolute perfection, but yet they just keep on polishing it. I appreciate their efforts so much, without them we would've had to settle for Bloodborne or something as Game of the Year.

(Which is a great game, but c'mon, it's no Witcher 3)

killer_goat3795d ago

In my opinion bloodborne is game of the year. Why did you have to bring it up?

Bahamut3795d ago

@killer_goat

Because I have an opinion too, and I wanted to share it.

killer_goat3795d ago

What's wrong with having to settle with bloodborne as game of the year? (which it did get)

Bahamut3794d ago

@killer_goat

Who gave Bloodborne GOTY? The Witcher 3 took how about 80 GOTY awards, who gave Bloodborne 1? That person either never played The Witcher 3, or didn't want to "bandwagon" and like what everyone else was liking (even though he/she should have, because it's better than Bloodborne).

It's early in 2016 but I think we have a clear leader for dumbest top N4G post of 2016 only 12 days into the season!

Mariusmssj3795d ago

I love the support the developer is showing :D

Articuno763795d ago

*sits back*
*puts feet up*

Yep, just gonna keep on waiting for the patches to roll in. By the time I get around to playing this (likely after upgrading) it will almost be a different game entirely.

WellyUK3795d ago

what is it with you people? Just because a game is getting updates does not mean the game is unfinished or broken... It's been fine since launch on PC even with the bugs it has which is expected in such a big game. It launched in much better condition than Fallout 4 did which has a stupid amount of bugs and issues.

PygmelionHunter3795d ago (Edited 3795d ago )

"the bugs it has which is expected in such a big game"

This excuse is so old and lame. I started Xenoblade Chronicles X barely a week ago, have 15 hours in, and guess what? No bugs nor glitches. On a game that is far bigger in scale than either TW3 or Fallout 4, and also has a perfectly working and free multiplayer component.

Where as with TW3, which I played through on patch 1.11 froze on me several times, suffered from painful, near slideshow framerates throughout Novigrad's main area, and had various bugs which prevented me from completing a lot of the side quests (PS4 version).

Seriously, supporting a developer is one thing, but excusing them for not taking the right time to release an actually finished product is another. TW3 is currently my GOTY 2015, but the fact that CDPR is still tweaking the game to make it perfectly playable does not speak well of them and should NOT be praised.

WellyUK3795d ago

well I played Witcher 3 for 200 hours and had no bugs either... Some times they dont effect you as much as others. When a game is big its going to have issues. There is no game that launches without bugs. Its the game breaking ones that are the problem.

vikingland13795d ago

@Pygmelionhunter

To be fair there is alot more going on in TW3 compared to Xeno blade. You can walk right through cars in town in Xeno blade and it doesn't have real time shadows either.

I'm not saying it's worse just different is all.

sullynathan3795d ago

How has it been fine on PC even though many complained about it on PC? Did you forget that this game has gotten 12 patches over the course of a year? That's a ridiculous amount of bugs and technical problems in game, it should have come out in 2016.

WellyUK3795d ago

"many" you mean the vocal minority like it usually is... They wouldn't of found 90% off these bugs without the player base finding them. If it released this year it would still have issues that they wouldn't of found.

sullynathan3795d ago

Thats why there's a thing called bug testing.

nitus103795d ago

When I got this game two weeks ago I installed the 15GB patch before I played it.

I actually selected "Blood and broken bones!" difficulty first and was dying allot (fairly use to that in the Souls series) but what got annoying is the re-load times so I whimped out and restarted in the Normal mode so I could get a better idea of how to play the game.

I have now restarted on "Blood and broken bones!" and except for one unusual crash (lost 10 minutes game-play) the game plays fine although on rare occasions I do get slowdown.

@PygmelionHunter

This game is one of the best open RPG's that I have ever played , however 15GB and 17GB are massive and indicative of poor software design planning. I do realise that the Project Red team are using quite a few development tools so that it may be much more difficult to apply what is called a "delta" patch.

Basically a "delta" patch only updates the part of the program that needs the update not the whole program. This methodology has been used in Linux distributions for many years and as an example what would normally be a 1GB suite of patches is reduced to sometimes less then a 60MB.

PygmelionHunter3795d ago

@nitus10

Well, there's something interesting I didn't know. Thanks for sharing.

kupomogli3795d ago (Edited 3795d ago )

@sullynathan

This is the 8th gen you're talking about. Their are no longer bug testers in the traditional sense. Bug testers are now early adopters who will be apologetic to any game released no matter how broken it is.

I read the changelog and da** that's a lot of problem, even for an open world game. Bethesda games are pretty much king when it comes to bugs and glitches, and they pale in comparison to just this latest update alone.

sullynathan3795d ago

sadly thats what the gaming public has been reduced to. CDPR has suckered a bunch of loyal customers now with free DLC and they forget that this game was as buggy as a Beth game and are now willing to defend them.

When Cyberpunk releases and also needs 12 patches, you'll see the same excuses "oh it's open world", "they couldn't find all the glitches"

masterfox3795d ago

@PygmelionHunter:

"near slideshow framerates throughout Novigrad's main area" <- I stop reading there

Being in Novigrad completing lots of sidquest(dozen of hours), the only issue I had was when Hatori was showing on screen but just meditate and cycle a day and it was there and it took me a couple of minutes, so I think you are full of fallacy. :D

G20WLY3795d ago

Agreed, and I'm doing the same. I started Skyrim about a year after everyone else. Just sat back and watched the controversies, followed by bug fixes and then GOTY awards.

When a game is as good as Skyrim or Witcher 3, there's nothing wrong with wanting to ensure none of the launch annoyances get in the way of your enjoying it to it's fullest.

There's also no law that says you must play a game within a certain period of it launching.

I'm very excited to play Witcher 3 and I will do, soon. :)

The actor who portrayed Zoltan Chivay in The Witcher series of games has died

Alexander Morton, the Scottish actor probably best known for starring in British comedy drama Monarch of the Glen - but known to me for being the hilariously foul-mouthed dwarf Zoltan Chivay in The Witcher 2 and The Witcher 3 - has died aged 81.

3x less sales than Playstation.
3x less consoles sold than Playstation.

Per captita, it averages out that the same number of users are buying CDP games regardless of platform, no?

Bathyj73d ago

The exact same or possibly more because a series S, initial investment and effort to Port to Xbox consoles for a third of the return.

Simply not worth it

LMGk73d ago

“ Simply not worth it”

And yet, basically every game comes to Xbox.

NotoriousWhiz73d ago (Edited 73d ago )

A third is a pretty big number to be honest. Like would you rather make 15 million or 20 million? That's the difference that a third makes.

GamingSinceForever74d ago

Hey it’s ok. They are really impressed with XBOx’s new CEO so exclusivity is on the way. 😂

Loktai73d ago

Ok but I mean be logical ... modern PC, Switch, PS4 PS5 then you have XBOX, of all of those XBOX is probably only 10 percent... I mean, what do you expect? 10 percent increase in sales is still nothing to sneeze at, remember - this is CD projekt red and they sell a lot of software. 10 percent of their sales is probably what most studios DREAM of selling .... just playing devils advocate..... its easy to say LOL haha XBOX.... but.. I mean we know what it is at this point. I havent bought on since my xbox one X and before that I only used other peoples xboxes since the OG XBOX and stick with PC and Playstation and switch OLED, but .. I mean.... theres nothing WRONG with an xbox considering its just not the best - but they work fine. make no mistake.
