Diablo 3 Patch 2.4 Launching January 12th

Diablo 3's enormous 2.4 update is scheduled to launch on January 15th.

The headline feature is Greyhollow Island, a brand new zone designed explicitly for the game's endless Adventure Mode, described as a "mysterious forested locale is steeped in intrigue, [where] rumors abound that those who visit are doomed to never return.' It's the first area to have been designed from the ground up for the endlessly replayable adventure mode, rather than as part of a campaign, which has allowed Blizzard to experiment with some more non-linear storytelling approaches. Players will be able to try and piece together clues as to what happened on the island and unravel it's mysteries to their conclusion, or simply go hunting for bounties as per usual. Two other existing game areas have been expanded as well - Leoric's Manor has had the Royal Quarters added, and the Ruins of Sescheron gains the Eternal Woods.

Awesome that they're still expanding this without shifting it to "games as a service" with DLC and/or microtransactions in every orifice.

I'll be quite happy to pay out if D3 gets another full expansion at some point, and hopefully Overwatch gets a similarly respectable old-school Blizzard model.

@Volk

Agreed. It's awesome they are expanding it, but tbh dude I'm kinda burned out of the game. I'm ready and willing to throw another $40 at them so I can have some new classes and act with more story. It's been said that D3 ROS was datamined and there was data in there for a Druid class and the next location was supposed to be their region on the Worldstone.

Hopefully we can get the Necromancer back too. I know a lot of people look at the D3 classes of hybrids of past classes, but imo it's just not the same. ROS and Jay Wilson being fired is the best thing to happen to Diablo 3, and hopefully the story will continue soon as Imperius seems like he has become corrupted and will potentially be the next big bad or side with them.

If they decide to go straight to D4, I'm fine with that as well. I just want a new Xpac or Diablo sequel, and I'm tired of WoW always getting the spotlight as MMO's are a dying thing and most have left WoW and moved onto MOBAs.

Is this patch for consoles too? They haven't supported the consoles version as much it would be really cool if it is

Kane223785d ago

they have supported the console version just as much as the pc version...where have you been. there are some exclusive features for pc which is understandable but overall every patch pc gets so does consoles..at the same time

slappy5083785d ago (Edited 3785d ago )

Actually the console versions don't have seasons or ladders. A start of a new season is pretty much an incentive to jump in the game again

Edit: alright I had a check at the patch notes, looks like consoles do get the new weapons as well, I haven't played in a while so this fact has alluded me. So it's basically the same updates without seasons, so it would be fair to assume the patch in question does come to consoles too

Rats I just uninstalled to play dragon age. I even logged in to see if they added new content. D3 and Drive club deserve major props for post launch support.

Blizzard Wants Faster Diablo Releases and More Expansions

Blizzard reveals plans to speed up Diablo releases with more frequent expansions and updates as the franchise moves toward a live-service future.

All I want is a physical disc release of remastered D2 that doesn't require online check-ins.

Ah, more and fast - the antithesis of careful and good

I've lost complete interest. Too much FOMO with seasons as it is, now it's expansions? No thanks.

Michiel198984d ago

what fomo? everything gets reset each season and you start new characters unless you're playing on the regular servers and then you're already maxxed anway and just need to participate in the new season stuff.

Michiel198983d ago

i played only during launch and i found the ones in that battlepass to be absolute dogwater, the only ones that looked somewhat cool were the paid ones in the store and i wont bother with either. The game itself was just so hollow, there were no cool builds cause every synergy was just "x or y skills does more dmg or has this extra effect" almost no experimentation needed, couldnt give a rats ass about armor if the core of the game is boring af.
