The revolution will start once PSVR releases.

Insomnia_843770d ago

You can't compare PSVR to 3D. You woukd have to have zero common sense to make such comparison.

Its Sony's move to make, though I think success will have more to do with movies and events as much, if not more, than games.

I really hope they add 3d bluray playback soon to the PSVR and being able to watch 2D movies and non VR games through it.

Sony already mentioned this won't be supported right after release but they will later on with some PS4 apps...

"I think success will have more to do with movies and events as much, if not more, than games."

This is byfar the most logical entry point into making VR a standard Market mainly because the move to make it Viable is now already here even with HTC Vive, OculusRift & PlayStation VR not even being on the consumer level market just yet.

The Thing about the reason Why is already there is Entry level VR HMD Headset's that are in the $50.00 price range or even less that have decent lenses that can give the near or same level of Entry point VR as Samsung's Gear VR which is already @ $99.00 , which is fantastic in itself, because unlike 3D movies in theatres VR even entry level VR many headsets can be used by many who have subscription eye glass's so its built for Everyone to experience VR.

Definitely agree...PSVR needs a reveal event that outlines the full functionality of the unit & any potential ideas in the works for the future. The unit needs to be capable of acting as an HMD as well as a virtual cinema type of unit.

One cool recent piece of tech thats been shown off that could make VR events possible is this 360 camera that I believe panasonic has made...it takes a full 360 shot, which could potentially make streaming a live event much more feasible...If I'm virtually attending the GnR reunion I'd want to turn my head and see the entire crowd at any given moment...granted there'd probably be some privacy issues that would be tricky to get around, but that would be the kind of experience that would be tremendously memorable.

Really hoping they give us a full reveal event soon that will showcase all of the pertinent games, tell us all of the functionality out of the box & in the works outside of gaming, release date, pricing & full launch lineup. If they do anything less the sales could suffer in a big way.

Full disclosure: did not, have yet to seriously regard news or announcements from CES, but take that Sony didn't fully give details on PSVR, especially in the wake of the Oculus price backlash, is not a good sign.

jb2273770d ago

I'm right there with you...the lack of actual news at CES was a big blow for me personally in terms of excitement. Maybe it's still on the up & up but the lack of any real new info at the biggest electronics expo of the year didn't bode well for me either.

Unless they plan on using late February to roll out their VR plan like they used it to roll out the PS4, chances are slim that there's much good news to be had. At this point I'm feeling like functionality will be slim out of the box & that box will be steeply priced. Hoping they come out and confirm otherwise but at this point as a huge Sony supporter & massively curious potential fan of VR in general, it's hard even for me to put much stock in this unit yet.

Either we get a huge mindblowing rollout soon or fans can count on a very soft release. I'd personally rather have the unit fully kitted out w/ multiple uses & a fair handful of quality games out of the box coming in at a later date than confirmed than have VR land on time w/ a dull thud.

I don't think anyone was expecting a revolution. It's just too expensive right now.

I think for the revolution to stall, these headsets need to be released first.
We'll see what happens once they hit the market.

Are a bunch of games, some of which are nearly 10 years old not one being from 2026. Barely one from 2025.

I do like the irony of the closing paragraph though, "Why VR Adventure Games are Thriving". Really buddy?

mooreneco2125d ago

That’s because it’s his favourite VR adventure games thus far, a great game always a great game regardless of age - Half life 2/ Ocarina of time - are old but still among the greatest games of all time. The irony of it is several are from last year, depending on platform, have you even played VR?
