Andrew Gonzalez from Xbox Enthusiast takes a look at ReCore and discusses whether or not the game could potentially be a console seller for Microsoft when it launches later this year.

Waiting to see the gameplay for this, the trailer intrigued me.

robtion3775d ago

Indeed. This and Scalebound are my two most anticipated exclusives on X1. They really need to show some gameplay though.

Letthewookiewin3775d ago

Yes. This might end up being better than Mighty no.9. I know I like the aesthetic better just from seeing the trailer.

Yetter3775d ago

Well its gonna be very different than mighty no.9 but I'm almost certain it will be better

jb2273775d ago

Definitely like the look better if the cg is indicative of the gameplay...if it truly is the combination of Zelda & Metroid that the creators have mentioned, then the game would definitely be further up my alley than Mighty No 9.

Could definitely be a "secret weapon" if it hits those marks, but most likely not in sales potential, but in gamer & critical praise. Sometimes that translates to sales but games like these aren't proven in today's market, doubly so in the MS ecosystem. If this is the year of the return of the 3d platformer then this game may fall into a similar playstyle and help to spearhead the movement though so it is anyone's guess. Gotta be quality though, I won't get my hopes up too high until I see actual gameplay and until the game releases.

FlipSwitch3775d ago (Edited 3775d ago )

I can't see how it can ever be a system seller when it is a multiplatform game and released on PC at the same time.

Thats the trouble with not having real exclusives. They aren't going to move consoles because it's not the only place to play them

UnHoly_One3775d ago (Edited 3775d ago )

You're forgetting about the whole huge group of people that don't WANT to game on PC.

A large number of people either can't afford a good gaming PC or just outright don't want to mess with it. They just want to plug a device into their TV and have everything work with no hassle.

To that group of people, the words "also on PC" might as well not exist because it's a non-factor to them.

PistolsAtDawn3775d ago (Edited 3775d ago )

You do realize that all PS4 top selling games are not only multi-plat, but that it includes PC right?

The game looks fantastic, I can't wait to play it. As far as MS is concerned it doesn't matter if it's on PC...MS sees both consoles and PCs as their children...and either way it's profit to them...and either way that profit will persuade MS to invest more in gaming, and either way that will benefit gamers. It being on PC would ONLY be a concern if X1 was on the verge of extinction...but that's not even close to true, it's actually selling better than 360 and Games attach ratios are higher, and Paid Online Membership renewal is higher...so again...profit is profit to MS and will end up being great for gamers....not seeing any negative here....

I have a PC, but I'm gonna be playing this on X1..I prefer consoles...

swordmasterman3775d ago

I Want to Reply PistolsAtDawn.

Sony's Best Selling Games, are KillZone Shadow Fall, BloodBorne, The Last of Us Remaster, and Uncharted Collection.

Uncharted Collection, and The Last of Us Remasters, Sold more than 7 Millions of Units Together, and Most are Bundles with the Console.

so a Game that you Can Only play on a Plataform, will sell better than a Multiplataform Game.

jb2273775d ago

Seems like a game like this would be best served on consoles to me, but that may be because I've never been a PC gamer. Either way I don't know if the game will be a "system seller" per se but it may end up being MS' best received and reviewed game of the year if (really big if here) it is able to capture some of the magic from a game like Ocarina of Time.

Seems like the game is setup just like that one, the devs have already said it's a bit of a mixture between Zelda & Metroid, but beyond that they've confirmed that the desert area shown in the previews acts as a type of overworld like Hyrule Field did, then you go into separate dungeon type areas that feature bosses & new gear. Sounds like its set up very similarly to the best Zelda games in terms of playstyle. Not sure if the MS audience will be responsive of that or not, but I know I'd sure wanna pick it up when or if I grab an XBO based off of the prerelease info.

These people keep searching for an xbox system seller. It was supposed to be Titanfall. Nope. It was supposed to be Master Chief collection. Nope. It was supposed to be Halo 5. Nope. Now it's supposed to be Recore? LOL. Let me sum it up.....Nope!!!

Hopefully Recore is a great game, and xbox players enjoy it. But putting the label of "system seller" on it just puts a target out there on it that it can't possibley hope to achieve. Just enjoy the games, and stop desperately searching for something that isn't coming.

Lennoxb633775d ago

MCC, Titanfall, and Halo 5 were system sellers. What are you talking about?

DLConspiracy3775d ago

"Just enjoy the games, and stop desperately searching for something that isn't coming."

The same could be said for those desperately searching for any negative they can about the xbox console.

The_BlackHeart__3775d ago (Edited 3775d ago )

I don't get people getting hyped over CGI.

Not even the developers have been able to give us an accurate description of what the game actually is.

I'm pretty sure the game will not as big as we are assuming it to be.

Last time I checked, games created by Japanese developers do not sell Xbox consoles

TheCommentator3775d ago

Last time I checked Japanese developers weren't supporting the XB1 very well, so I find your statement a bit obtuse. Kind of hard to buy a console for it's Japanese games when there aren't many Japanese games in the first place. Maybe that's why MS needs more of them, and maybe that's why PS4 is doing so much better in comparison? How can you really say for certain?

Godmars2903775d ago (Edited 3775d ago )

MS had more of them at one point. But then they made the mistake of letting JRPGs they had had on the 360 both go to the PS3, then have more added content.

As for the PS4 getting the support it is now, that has to do with the current console gen being less of a headache than the last. Since many JP devs didn't know what to do with HD, or the realism/FPS being demanded.

Bigpappy3775d ago

Really? Have you ever heard of Ninja Geaden?

Max-Zorin3775d ago

Dead or Alive, Tekken, Ninja Gaiden, Street Fighter, Naruto games, just to name a few, all made by Japanese developers, have done well on Xbox.

Freedomland3775d ago

They all are multiplats and already known titles.

OpieWinston3775d ago

Last time I checked ReCore is hitting X1/Windows 10. And FYI Armature is working with Comcept on this. So American and Japanese.

Secret weapon means that they can build a franchise on ReCore. Who knows, it could be the diamond in the rough that MS discovers this gen. Same way Halo/Gears turned into Billion dollar franchises.

Erik73573775d ago

Im getting it on pc not xbox....

Erik73573775d ago

Its just funny how people are acting like its exclusive when its not lol

OpieWinston3775d ago

It's funny how people are acting like it isn't a Microsoft exclusive.

You can't DL it without W10.

Khaotic3774d ago

If you dont own ms operating system you probably aren't playing it. So yes its exclusive

badz1493774d ago

@OpieWinston

currently, there is like 10x better chance of somebody already having a Win 10 PC than an XbOne and they don't have to spend a dime to play Recore. Win 10 is a FREE spyware OS but the XbOne is a $300 console, so for those who don't have XbOne, there is like ZERO initiative to buy the XbOne for this. so why is this game even talked about as some kind of system seller?

PistolsAtDawn3775d ago

Are you just complaining just to complain? First of all Japanese games do just fine on X1...true, maybe not the really obscure ones....but they're obscure. So what do you suggest, MS just refuses Japanese games all together? Would you then change your tune to "MS doesn't support Japanese gaming"?

How about you just judge a game based on it's quality instead of holding onto unfounded bias' and dismissing a game/chance of a game doing well....simply cause you have some ridiculous pre-conceived notion based on no real facts.

Lennoxb633775d ago

Last time I checked, games created by Japanese devs aren't selling on PS consoles either. Sure, better than Xbox. But 95% of them aren't seeing stellar numbers like its Western focused games.

Germany73775d ago

A game from Keiji Inafune and the creators of Metroid Prime probably will be a masterpiece, but maybe could be a console seller if the game was exclusive only for Xbox One.

Melankolis3775d ago

That guy (Inafune) has too many projects at the same time. Hasn't released Mighty No, 9, kickstart Red Ash, and suddenly ReCore appeared.

Maybe other ex-Capcom were right, he is more like a business man than a videogame developer.

TheCommentator3775d ago

Like Kojima, With MGS 5 still in development and coming out with the PT demo?

_-EDMIX-_3775d ago

Not really, lots of the top directors actually work on many projects at the same time. Kojima worked on Zone Of Enders during MGS2 and MGS3 development, he worked on many, many games while doing MGS series.

Its more common then you think and to my understanding, Mighty No 9 and Red Ash are in 2 different spots of development, ie the team working on the starting concept of Red Ash won't be working on Mighty No 9..

How many games have you come across when near the ending of development, artist, writers, creative directors etc are still working on it?

Really, really..REALLY think about the steps it takes when making a game.

The folks RIGHT NOW working on the START OF Red Ash are not still working on Mighty No 9, its concept is done, its art direction is done etc.

ReCore is also not even being done 100% by him, its also being worked on by MS and by ex members of Retro.

its not just him and I fear many are jumping to conclusions with very little to back them up.

1 person doesn't make a game.

The same staff who start the game, are likely not still working on it the last stage of development as concept, art direction, creative direction, design etc are not being done at that time, its already in place, thus they are actually not just sitting around collecting a pay check.

Many teams are working on ReCore not just his.

If we are going to say wrong doing in any form, lets at least have concrete what the wrong doing actually is.

ReCore didn't "suddenly" appear, its been worked on for over 2 years again by 2 TEAMS, not a single dude.

ScorpiusX3775d ago

Windows 10 store or Xbox one still money in MS pocket and going no where else.

FlipSwitch3775d ago

Why do you care about Microsofts money? The game is still multiplatorm which means it isn't as beneficial to xbox and xbox consumers

PistolsAtDawn3775d ago

So you're saying it's a PC seller?

Khaotic3774d ago

If your a gamer and you really want to play this and you dont have an x1 or a gaming pc but you have some money saved up. What do you think 90 percent of people will buy to play. A 700 to 1000 rig or a 299 dollar console bundle with this game. Maybe 350 but doubt it as its slated for holiday and will be black friday deals. Use logic

Five Overlooked Xbox Game Pass Ultimate Gems You Should Play

I personally think there's better on gamepass then what was listed. State of decay imo is better then anything listed. Recore seemed alright for what I played on there also.

roadkillers1220d ago

Is Recore any better to play now?

Concertoine1220d ago

Yeah, especially on One X or Series X. It kinda feels like a PS2 platformer, but in a good way. I liked it.

KillBill1220d ago

Odd that he specified 'Game Pass Ultimate' instead of just 'Game Pass' just so he could include a relatively weak choice comparably in 'Alice: Madness Returns' which is available with EA Play. SoD was a far better overlooked game to have listed.

Crows901220d ago (Edited 1220d ago )

Dont know why they keep listing ultimate. Gamepass is the better value....but the reason I think is that ultimate includes online gwg.

MadLad1220d ago

I mean, as someone who games both on PC and Xbox, Ultimate makes a whole lot of sense. There's console exclusives and PC exclusives. And, at the end of the day, EA Play is still a perk of having Ultimate. When I open Gamepass, the EA Play catalogue is sitting right there for me. It's as much part of Gamepass as any other title I'm looking at, right?

5 Games That Could Have Benefited From a Day One Game Pass Release

Omar Banat: Xbox Game Pass is one of the most ingenious services that Microsoft has come up with, but for these five games, it didn't come soon enough.

Game Pass certainly could have helped Sunset Overdrive which was underrated, imo.

"But the focus of the day is Remedy’s 2016 critically acclaimed Xbox exclusive, Quantum Break, and how Game Pass could have given it a much-needed bump."

Quantum Break received overall good reviews. Not great, but good. Critically acclaimed? Sorry, no. That's hyperbole.

"And fast-forwarding a few years, we saw what a boon Game Pass was for Gears 5. Not only did Game Pass help get the game into the hands of more Xbox and PC players, but it also helped it exceed Gears of War 4 in sales."

Gears 5 was launched on Steam day one. Gears of War 4 still isn't on Steam. I think that's important to point out if you are going to allude to reasons why one game outsold another.

darthv721880d ago

SSOD was free on GwG not too long after release. That is always fun for quick pickup and play. QB is one that I hope gets FPS boost support. It would just feel more natural being more fluid but it too is a good game. I assume it being on GP has somewhat helped it get some recognition.

CrimsonWing691880d ago

There’s no denying how good Gamepass is but I’m still foggy on how it benefits developers/publishers. Like, do they just get one lump sum of cash to put the title on Gamepass? I mean, I personally canceled my pre-order for Outriders when I saw it’s going to be on Gamepass day 1. Judging by that I’m not sure Gamepass helps with the sales of games, rather it does expose games to more players, but how much of that equates to sales down-the-road?

RavenWolfx1880d ago

I heard payment was based on number of downloads and time played in addition to a lump sum, but I am not sure on the accuracy.

demonseye1880d ago

I actually agree on this. because a lot of games will get played that people they normally wouldn't pay for. and its 10 dollars per month which is 120 dollars per year. The average game cost day one is around 70 dollars. i buy a lot more games than 2 on a yearly basis.
and well the gamepass for me just made my option ps5 pc combo. as long as they release every game on pc I don't even have a reason to buy an Xbox. so i wonder if this plan is financially smart in the long term. mind you Xbox already received money for every Xbox game sold regardless if it's Microsoft owned or not.

Revisiting Recore: Xbox One’s Lost Gem

Article on the story of Recore which includes new information on cut characters and covers its rumoured development hell. "Recore’s always been a title that’s fascinated me, as it's clearly a game that never fulfilled its potential for whatever reason.  It's filled to the brim with bugs and glitches and yet, despite that, still managed to charm many who played it. It’s the first game that I wanted"
