The Oculus Rift Will Include a Wireless Adapter to the Xbox One Controller

The Oculus Rift virtual reality (VR) head-mounted display (HMD) is set to include a lot of add-ons for free. People pre-ordering today will be getting free copies of the anticipated multiplayer space shooter, EVE: Online, from CCP Games as well as Lucky’s Tale from Playful and an Xbox One controller to actually played them with. Those last 2 will also be included for anyone that picks up the Oculus Rift with or without the pre-order. A third, very important addition is also being made for everyone: a wireless adapter for that controller.

$599 is more than I expected but the fact you also get a $59 controller and $25 wireless adapter and a couple games lessens the blow a little. I would imagine after the early adopters jump on board we will see a $499 Rift without the controller and games. It will be interesting to see how Sony prices PSVR now that Rift pricing and dates have been released.

Sony walks up to the stage picks up mic... 399... Drop mic walks off stage

Kiwi663808d ago

What does sony have to do with the article , i don't get why people mention other names when the article doesn't , it reeks of insecurity

thisgamer5033808d ago

$200 less for an inferior product isn't exactly conducive to mic dropping

showtimefolks3808d ago

Kiwi66

everything since both are offering VR devices

so if one is priced 399 and the other 599 guess which will sell better.

thisgamer503

serious SMH

price sells. price matters more than anything else

xbox one 499
ps4 399

end of story. if sony were to make their VR 399 or even 449-499 it will do better than oculus

it would be very interesting to see how the type of impact both oculus and ps-vr will make.

at those prices i just don't see many jumping on board

YodaCracker3808d ago

Oculus is PC-only and PSVR is PS4-only. They're not even truly competing.

2pacalypsenow3808d ago (Edited 3808d ago )

"It will be interesting to see how Sony prices PSVR now that rift pricing and dates have been released"

I was referring to that since the comment mentioned PSVR

Peace_Love_and_FPS3808d ago

On current customers, but VR is a whole new medium and opens up the door for a whole new customer base, as well as undecideds who are choosing whether to go PC, next gen, or both, and if both then which VR headset to get.

3-4-53808d ago

* Isn't Sony VR PS4 only ? They are only kind of competing against each other, not fully.

You have to have a PS4 to get the VR right?

So it's really like a $700+ investment right ?

Not that it should matter much, but when talking about Oculus, why the need to be like " Hey look at me over here...I need attention too".

God forbid somebody goes 2 minutes without talking about Sony.

What would you play with if you don't have a controller though? At the very least, the packaging would have to make it very clear what hardware was not included and would be required for gaming.

Bigpappy3808d ago

I'll pass for now. May be in a year or two. Maybe next gen.

showtimefolks3808d ago

true these things are almost twice as expensive as the consoles them self. i am not interested at any price

but i just don't see this catching up if that's what these device makers have in mind. this will be a niche product as far as gamers are concerned

maybe people will use to for porn and than it can catch on

Captain_Wormy3808d ago

Yyyyyeeah Im gonna pass and go with PSVR day one

RosweeSon3808d ago

I'd want a 3 course meal and an overnight stay in a hotel for the price they are asking (on top of what you already get)... No thanks

WheatBread3808d ago (Edited 3808d ago )

It'd be nice if it also worked with my ps4 and logitech controllers.

That's fine. GT7 would overshadow it anyway at it has open wheel and regular cars.

Should have been spending their time updating Squadrons with better resolution, frame rate, haptics, etc as there isn't a game like that on PS VR 2 yet.

But it's EA. They don't think.

Babadook71126d ago

I agree. It would sell better on PSVR2 right now.

Knushwood Butt1126d ago (Edited 1126d ago )

A wasted opportunity, but I don't buy EA / Codemasters stuff anyway. Grid Legends just came out on Plus and I haven't touched it. Why would I when I have GT7 and PSVR2?

Abnor_Mal1126d ago

Not into F1 racing, but still a missed opportunity.

ApocalypseShadow1126d ago

That's where opportunity presents itself that they could offer something else that other developers haven't offered yet. Yeah. There's No Man's Sky. But a space game with a story would be great. Like the old days with Colony Wars.

Abnor_Mal1126d ago

Exactly, they could have possibly lured more players just from the inclusion of a vr mode.

I miss Colony wars and G-Police, Low-Fi I hope will scratch that itch when it releases. We also need a vr War/Starhawk game.

Knushwood Butt1126d ago

Just watched the trailer of Low-Fi. Most definitely on my radar.
