Fallout Needs Better Romance Options

Fallout 4 has been out for awhile and a glaring aspect is the weak romance options presented from the great selection of companions present within the game.

Video games, in general, need better romance options. It's so formulaic where you just "always say something nice" or the like.

I feel bad for the person who wrote this and I feel bad for you. Screw you guys. Lol get a gf

Bimkoblerutso3823d ago (Edited 3823d ago )

...what? What does that have to do with getting a girlfriend? Romance in a game (or any narrative for that matter) is just a form of characterization and context like any other aspect of a game's story. And if it's done wrong, then it's just as distracting as any other aspect of the narrative that is poorly written.

Better to leave it out entirely if it's going to be that much of an afterthought, if you ask me.

Christopher3822d ago

lol, telling a married man to get a GF. Interesting tactic there.

Wanting better romance options in a game rather than the 'hit a to romance' is somehow meaning I don't know what it is in real life?

I feel bad for you, you don't realize that in storytelling all elements matter and not just the shoot things up portion.

Ogygian3823d ago (Edited 3823d ago )

We'll never have good romance options, because at present you seem to need two homosexual options for every straight.

Devs don't have the time for that.

Sakura Wars on the Wii had a great relationship system where you had only 20 seconds to choose your answer and the options usually required you to remember things like the girls hates/likes, temperament and personality traits.

EG: dont make aggressive sounding statements to the timid girl. Suggest outdoor type events to the girl who grew up on a farm.

F romance.

I'm here to decapitate Supermutants with a sledgehammer.

You want romance? Go watch PBS shows ..

Ogygian3823d ago

Very sophisticated comment.

If you read older books, you'll see that romance has been omnipresent in fiction since ancient times.

What's wrong with romance in games if it is portrayed in an epic manner, so as to enhance the story?

Not all romances have to be as cheesy and awful as Bioware's. They can be more like Tristan and Iseult, if only writers tried, and ignored the entitled moans of the SJWs.

annoyedgamer3823d ago

But why is it necessary?

And IF we did do as you want, you think EA (Bioware is owned by EA) is the only SJW friendly company?

Its going to get pushed on every other company the way female characters were. We cant even have war games without them now. Its as if there is some kind of law that makes it illegal.

Ogygian3823d ago

It's not necessary in all games. Of course not.

But it can really enhance an epic RPG if done right.

Ferrethat223823d ago

That's what the amazing mod community is here for. To finish Bethesda's half ass work.

letsgopal3823d ago

Why everyone counts on modders? "Modders will fix this", "Modders will add that", "I'm sure modders will..." Lol.

Lighter93823d ago

Yes, but can they do it quietly?

They need to look at Morrowind and see what the progression should have been from there instead of the regression we got with the next 2 games. They weren’t horrible games but they could have been so much more.

-Foxtrot226d ago

Fallout 4 just felt too streamlined and accessible to me, the perk system was not as fun as it was in Fallout 3, not saying Fallout 3 didn't have issues but 4 just felt like a complete step back.

mastershredder226d ago

So the part where you just sold the same games for the last 10 years while you focused on 76 and merch, was not a reset from the "creative" aspect eh? How very Todd of you.

lukasmain226d ago

I bought Fallout 4 (I loved Fallout 3) at launch and I couldn't bring myself to finish it or even get close to finishing it. It was soooo damned boring and bland. I played on a very hard difficulty and I had hundreds of stimpaks. One of the only games I've played for a while and not ended up finishing it. I hated it. Just flat out hated it.
