Think of all the hours you spend doing digital busywork to get enough gears, points, orbs, feathers or other nonsense just to make a game more fun. Does it actually add anything to your experience? Who decides if a games story is average idefinitely ain't listening to no reviewers. I don't agree with most of then anyway. I think alot of them are to harsh on games so they can get clicks
The pinnacle of bad story but great gameplay is Destiny and Destiny 2. What is the Traveler? What is the Darkness? What the heck is happening? No one knew. But shooting the aliens and robots felt so good.

Overpowered guns can often ruin the balance of a game but they can also be a ton of fun. Unless you're on the receiving end, of course.

Depends on the game. In an RPG, traditional progression is absolutely needed. That's just part of the genre, for example. Other games that are extremely complicated and have a lot to them also need mechanics and abilities drip-fed, otherwise it becomes overwhelming and the player won't get a good enough grasp of what he/she can do.
