Star Wars Battlefront – Why EA Still Doesn’t Get It

OnlySP: We here at Only Single Player have spent a surprising amount of time talking about EA DICE’s Star Wars Battlefront, a game that has virtually no single-player content. Initially, it was our hope that the game would include a campaign mode, and when that rumor was dispelled, we held out hope that the single-player Missions mode would be worth playing. Since the release of the game on November 17th, we have largely come to the conclusion that this is quite simply a multiplayer engine, with the only single-player opportunities being hollow and short-lived. For these reasons, the highly-anticipated title made our Biggest Disappointments of 2015 on two accounts. All of this of course begs the question: why are we still talking about this?

After watching Star Wars: The Force Awakens I get it why EA wanted to release Star Wars: Battlefront before Disney's Star Wars.

Austin483804d ago

Why is that is it for a money grab?

adambomb9693804d ago

I think its cause they wanted to ride the hype of a new star wars movie, not the aftermath of said hype.

FasterThanFTL13804d ago

Because the movie is a massive disappointment, that is why.

venom063804d ago

The movie was fun and the GAME is fun.. if you're only worried about SP, then MOVE ON.. this isn't for SP and anyone bitchin about it, is bitchin just to be bitchin. It doesn't have a traditional SP, and wont have one. MOVE ON. If you enjoy MP, play it and have fun.

Liqu1d3804d ago

@venom06 Who said anything about SP? I enjoy MP but I didn't enjoy Battlefront, is that a problem for you?

kaizokuspy3804d ago

@venom the game being fun is subjective. To casuals who can't have a conversation about game mechanics and passed iterations, the game may seem fun. To the rest of us where gaming is our passion, release, and escape, they ruined battlefront. Cut all this content out and watered down any semblance of competitiveness that were in its predecessors. I could go on, but I know you don't care.

@liqu1d who's is talking about sp??? The whole freaking first paragraph of the article is about singleplayer!

"Because the movie is a massive disappointment, that is why."

Is that a fact or an opinion?

madjedi3804d ago

One is verifiable with actual evidence the other involves emotions and personal prejudices, it cannot be both.

The only significant issues I take with it is that ren goes from menacing like vader from the original trilogy to overly emotional like Anakin in episode 3.

That and how a untrained ignorant force sensitive can go one on one with basically a trained dark jedi.

And do many other things it took luke 4-5 yrs to master are magically already mastered by ray/rey.

I'll chalk that up to the girl power mentality in the west has atm or abrams taking liberties to streamline it for casuals.

If vader had been able to get close enough to luke in episode 4, he would have outright killed him.

Funny thing why didn't leia read vaders thoughts during her interrogation in the original trilogy.

I don't like continuity breaks.

jdiggitty3804d ago

@madjedi,

I believe that's why they established that Rey already knew how to fight (somehow) early on in the movie. Clearly, there is supposed to be something special about her so I give the benefit of the doubt. What's harder to stomach was that Kylo nearly got his clocked cleaned by a regular (janitor) stormtrooper.

madjedi3804d ago

Yes I know she is clearly familiar with at least staff fighting abilities.

That does not really explain ren's lack of force powers used in the fight.

I don't have a issue with a female jedi as a/the hero, you had many of them in the books clone wars series.

I wish they had a mara jade type of character, the new empire seems to be severally lacking in regards to powerful characters.

However it still has two movies to go, they could have done something interesting with the female stormtrooper commander, but used only as a reference gag to episode 4.

formanbradley3804d ago

You can only be let down if you build up your expectations. I went in blind, and it's better than the prequels bar none.

Archmagel3804d ago

I really enjoyed the movie and that is saying something since I thought Disney would shit all over it.

On the topic of taking down "basically trained dark Jedi" and Ray's force usage: You don't have to have any Force sensitivity to stand toe to toe with a trained Force user. The Mandalorian Wars are proof of that.

**Some Spoilers!!**

Luke was able to lift his X-Wing in about two weeks. That's probably 3-5 tons (haven't seen exact weight). Starkiller brought down a Star Destroyer with the Force. The Emperor is said to be one of the two with the ability revive himself with the Force after he has died. Vitiate could drain the life force of an entire planet. "Prodigy Child", and all that aside, we don't even know Ray's origins. She could have a higher mitachlorian count than even Luke. Force Persuade on one soldier is a small step compared to others.

Ren's lack of Force powers could be either him knowing that she can find a way to counter him (with the interrogation and her breaking free of his hold during the bout with Fin) or he was cocky and thought he didn't need to use the Force to take down some unknown scavenger girl. I do wish he would have used Choke at least.

@fasterthan...

The reviews and general fan reception combined with the record breaking box office numbers suggests you wouldn't be best suited to a career in market analysis.

I get the impression someones desperate for a little attention.

EverydayJoe3804d ago

Patcher says "hello" hahaha

thekhurg3804d ago (Edited 3804d ago )

Battlefront is a ton of fun and all the continual bitching from various websites and crybabies will never change that.

Liqu1d3804d ago

So anyone who has valid criticism is a crybaby?

madjedi3804d ago (Edited 3804d ago )

And comments like xavior's is exactly why, people that like the game are dismissing people who criticize it, regardless of if they are valid or not.

scark923804d ago

I don't like EA. They're coarse and rough and irritating, and they are everywhere.

PaulKersey3804d ago

I don't have much of an issue with the lack of campaign. I take issue with the lack of multiplayer against AI bots. I have young sons who just started playing the "missions" modes and love them, but would be slaughtered against older/experienced online players.

I would love to see multiplayer vs AI added via the season pass.

Tallpine3804d ago

I agree, in battlefront 1 and 2 you could play a full sized match all against ai. I was hoping it would return where you and a few friends could play full sized matches with or against each other filled with ai. My biggest gripe though is the map count, 4 off launch and one late is pathetic.

N4Geeing3804d ago

Multiplayer is gay,, had this game been succesful, EA would've charge you for all kinds of crap online..im sure this was their inttentions, glad they didnt have it their way
Not all gamers will bend over for every games.

madjedi3804d ago (Edited 3804d ago )

Sounds like someone who sucks at competitive gaming to me, I am not fond of many multiplayer games myself.

The narrative of you are all sheep for buying a game whose practices I do not agree with needs to die already.

How about we let people spend the money they earned on what they choose to, is that okay with you white knight.

Just lay off the bs lectures by looking down upon others for making the decision, oh shit looks fun here is my money, even if your not interested in the content.

You realize people will say the exact same thing about single player games are gay.
