PlayStation CEO: PSVR's 'second phase' Will Include Video, Music Apps

Jamie Feltham: "Given that it’s heading to a videogame console, Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE) has been surprisingly open to the idea of seeing virtual reality (VR) video and other types of experiences on the PlayStation VR head-mounted display (HMD). In fact, the company has already collaborated with the movie arm of the wider Sony Corporation, Sony Pictures, to produce a VR experience based on The Walk. All that said, SCE’s CEO doesn’t expect this type of content to hit PlayStation VR itself until the ‘second phase of development’."

Wonder how long it will take them. I'm hoping it won't take long. Would be cool to have a little theater mode that you can join in with a party. Kind of how Netflix was with the 360 when you would party up and watch movies together.

When do the ads start though ?

The thing should be wireless. That would be wicked....but then again, I'd probably punch someone's nan in the face by mistake so being tethered is probably not a bad thing.

Its gonna be scary for non-gamers to come into a room and being greeted by a scene like this:

Wireless would be nice. The tech just isn't there at least not for games. Hopefully in the future if vr survives

UserNameIsNotTaken3861d ago

I hope it will. It has so much potential!

We already have wireless VR with Samsung Gear, but we just don't have it for more powerful VR systems that require a PC or console (unless you want to strap PCs or consoles to your head). I'd say we passed the biggest hurdles with VR which were processing power, screen tech, and gyroscopic/image processing tech. Being able to have VR be wireless via more powerful and faster streaming is gonna happen soon enough.

And you don't have to be hopeful that VR survives. It's going to happen. The 90s couldn't kill it with their Gameboy resolution screens, Big Daddy helmets, and... Graphics. It just went into a coma waiting for the 2010's tech. If somehow our tech isn't good enough (which already is good enough and will only get better), then we'll just wait some more.

Yess!! PS VR HOME needs to happen. It should include rollercoasters, haunted house, shooting gallery games, kart racing, ARCADE rooms, theaters, a video game museum, and so much more. There's already VR demos for all of these types of games, and putting them all in one VR world shouldn't be difficult. It's a no brainer. Make it happen Sony.

Are a bunch of games, some of which are nearly 10 years old not one being from 2026. Barely one from 2025.

I do like the irony of the closing paragraph though, "Why VR Adventure Games are Thriving". Really buddy?

mooreneco2193d ago

That’s because it’s his favourite VR adventure games thus far, a great game always a great game regardless of age - Half life 2/ Ocarina of time - are old but still among the greatest games of all time. The irony of it is several are from last year, depending on platform, have you even played VR?
