It surprises me that Xenoblade beats Just Cause and Rainbow Six. In Europe (UK), Xenoblade was in low position the first week.

Also, if the numbers are valid, we will have a very interesting battle for December between Ps4 and XBO.

FYI, Xenoblade Chronicles X is a sequel. Xenoblade Chronicles 3DS, is a port of the Wii game, not a variant of the only that came out.

If they want it to do better they have to increase the budget to have more cutscenes and higher quality graphics and release it for the PS4 and Xbox1 instead of the Wiiu.

i hate how people discuss vgchartz data like its fact. yeah some of us know how far from reality it is but alot of people dont and take it is fact. thats just misleading and straight up lying. so why do vgchartz even exist? vgchartz fuel fanboy wars. they can have their own site but i agree, they should be banned. why post their lies on N4G? if people want to visit vgchartz, they can.

Yeah I think it'll have legs. Looking at WII U’s hardware sales, it looks to have pushed some consoles as well.

I think a couple of days right before Christmas there will be another spike in hardware sales across all platforms. There are still deals out there.

One thing that strikes me as odd is VGChartz is reporting the same 69% drop in hardware sales for both the Xbox 1 and PS4? I seriously doubt that....

Are those figures accurate? I question the one ones by VGChartz because I doubt both consoles saw the same 69% drop in hardware sales in the same time frame. I probably wouldn't have noticed it if it had been any consoles involved, but direct contenders for the top spot in sales seems to convenient!

According to your calculations,

32 million times .10 gives 3.2.

Your predicting that Tomb Raider will sell 3,200,000 on the PS4.

If VG is correct then the game only sold 500,000 on the XB1 and 140,000 copies on the Xbox 360.

According to you the PS4 version will vastly outsell the XB1 and the XBOX360 version combined.

Looking at percentages though

PS4: 83%
XB1: 13%
XBOX360: 4%

Thats out of a total of 3.84 million copies sold.

In other words your claiming that 83% of the games console sales will come from PS4 with the PS4 version selling 2.56 million more copies than the XB1 version.

So yes the PS4 and PC might save the franchise according to your theory and the numbers from VG charts.

But theres one flaw with your theory.

That was before November NPD so add 1.5 million to the sales which gives us around 31.7 million sold plus whatever else they sold in the rest of the world.

Why are you claiming that Sony will only sell 300k PS4s by the time Tomb Raider comes out?

With the current sales trend it would be logical to assume that PS4s install base will be around 40 million PS4s by the end of next year. Heck even more if you take into account how packed next year will be with system sellers.

I'm not salty that Tomb Raider is coming to other platforms. I'm happy that Laura will get a second chance on the PC and PS4.

She will do just fine there.

If I remember correctly, Uncharted 4 comes out in march and ROTTR probably towards the end of 2016.

I'll buy both! I don't see any reason why one should take the enjoyment out of the other, especially when they're that far apart.

If I can wait a year, I can wait 6 months on top of that year for that game to be 20$. It got good reviews, but I can't fully support this game after it gave a timed release to X1.

Some people might find this stupid, and it would be if I would be forcing myself not to buy it when it gets to PS4, but I can't get excited about this game, hell, even the ones who get the exclusivity are not excited about it.

I always talk about pace in games/tech stuff, 2013 TR was like giving new blood to a series that's stalled for years and people wanted a sequel of that reboot, and now they slow it back...one console, bad sales. I feel like it could put the series back on the back burner. Too bad.

Whether or not people like it or not, many people didn't like what they did... like you.

I don't remember how long it took for 360/PS3 version to drop in price, but the PC version released around the same time it looks like ROTR will for it, and it dropped to $13-16 by the Steam Summer Sale.

At this point they are going to have to discount it AND include all DLC when it releases on PS4.

Few are going to buy a $60 PS4 version a year late when the new CoD, Battlefield, Mass Effect, etc... are out... AND Uncharted 4 will be 6 months old and will no doubt have a discount.

*Not to mention since 3/4th of it's audience couldn't buy it AT ALL, it never really got into the consciousness of gamers. There was no buzz, because almost no one could play it. So they were trying to compete against Fallout (the same day), CoD, Halo 5, Battlefront... and all the mindshare those games had... by launching exclusively on one console. Ouch. It never had a chance. Had they launched it a month earlier on all consoles, it would of had a good shot.

This was all forseeable, and it makes the decision to take some cash up front look even more pathetic. They could of sold it on all three platforms for $60, now on the biggest platform, it will need to sell for like $40... maybe $50. Either way, the wait period will cost them $10-20 per copy on PS4 they could of had without the deal. (OR they could be morons and stand fast on $60 and see it sell like it just did on Xbox One with by that time 40 million consoles or so base).

Of course some people might not understand why they would need to discount it, so I'll break it down.

1. A year old game
2. Massive competition from NEW games (a year past every AAA release is everyone's NEXT YEAR of AAA release.
3. On the shelf next to a $20-40 Uncharted 4
4. People are pissed off they needed to wait a year
5. The sales prices on Steam will likely of sold it for $15-20 during Summer sale 2016...maybe 30... with 15-20 coming Winter Sale 2016. (again they sold it for $13-16 for what comparatively would be the 2016 Summer sale for Tomb Raider... and the pressure might mean they do that again. SO who is going to want to pay $60 for what others paid $15-20 for?
6. Even the Xbox One version will probably be at a permanently $30 price for about 6-8 months by the time the PS4 version comes.

So yeah, they screwed up big time.

Don't worry TR will sell great once it's released for all platforms. That's why timed exclusives are bullshit. There are probably like 5 persons in total that went and bought an xbox1 specifically to play TombRaider. Everyone else is just gonna wait until the PC or PS4 version comes out.
So with a timed exclusive like this you don't really push hardware sales (which is the intention) and you kill the software sales. And they did that with a sequel to a multiplat game. That's just stupid if you ask me...

Xenoblade Chronicles X sales are amazing though. It's a great game and its success is well deserved. IMHO you can't really compare it to Just Cause which is a very different game, but so far (15h in) it's the best JRPG I've played in a loooong time. I'd say the best since FFX on ps2 for me. As usual with console exclusives all I can think is how much better it would look and feel on my PC - but that's another story :)

Dang Ride Rise of the Tomb Raider dramatically dropped in sales in Xbox One's biggest territory. That speaks volumes of how it's performing in the rest of the world. This game isn't going to have sales legs, and this whole timed exclusive deal has only proven to be a big disaster.

Mad Max launched the same day as MGSV, and it didn't do as bad commercially as ROTR has.

I remember that Mad Max was one of those love it or hate it kind of games. With nowhere near the level of praise that Tomb Raider got.

You have to keep in mind that it also released on PC and PS4 though. Plus it didn't have Halo and FallOut to Compete with.

Let's see if PS4 owners have interest before claiming that.

Maybe Xbox fans have barely any interest in the game but that doesn't mean it's the same for PC and PS4 fans.

I have interest, I just have no plans on buying the game for $60, when that money could go elsewhere; I'm still playing Halo, and Xenoblade Chronicles X came out before I could even finish Fallout. The way my backlog is looking, I probably won't buy another game until Star Fox comes out in April. They chose an incredibly poor release date for Tomb Raider. Should have been January/February.

You would have a point if we were talking about a new IP like Okami was. We're talking about Tomb Raider, a game that many considered a staple franchise in the development of PlayStation history.

The two simply are not comparable. You have simply described a scenario that's possible, but incredibly unlikely. You need to consider brand association. Recall that Tomb Raider was outed as coming to PlayStation ahead of its release on Xbox One. People could have decided, "great. I don't need an Xbox One since I already have a PlayStation. Now I can just buy Fallout, Star Wars, and Call of Duty" while planning to get Tomb Raider next year. Considering PlayStation is doing better than the nearest competition, it's a probable situation, made more apparent by PlayStation gamers having a predisposition to titles like this. Uncharted releasing on PS4 ahead of time may actually work to attract more gamers to these types of games.

I absolutely believe it will do better on PlayStation.

Wow, Tomb Raider :(, this is why the community got upset over that exclusive contract, because we knew it was going to flop on Xbox as that community doesn't support these kind of games and the fanbase of Tomb Raider is on PlayStation.

Third parties should not make any more exclusives on Xbox. How many games are they going to sacrifice in order to try and give a boost to x1?

Wow i just noticed:
Uncharted collection NA sales are over 1M (WW sales over 2M)

Halo5 NA sales 1.6M (WW sales 2.4M)
If a collection of an old games can sell this close to a main Halo game then It look like Uncharted 4 will outsell Halo 5 by a land slide.

But this is a completely new HALO entry we're talking about here (along with an advertisement carpet-bombing).

It's the flagship brand of Xbox and used to be the sales toast of the industry with mainstream coverage of the launch due to the insane consumer demand.

Now, if you blink you'll miss it on the charts.

I'm surprised that a larger percentage of X1 owners didn't take the plunge on the game. I was expecting at least half of X1 owners to plunk down for a new Halo. Guess I was wrong...

@hazardman I would say a good many xb1 owners are ps4 owners as well. Speaking for myself as I own both I don't support third party exclusivty deals. If there are more out there like myself and I'm betting there are I won't pay retail I'm waiting till I can get it on ebay or half.com for a good price.

Tearaway is 1st party title, and yeah if it didnt sell well thats a shame. But Sony made the game and its their loss to live with. Nor does it have the mainstream appeal of a long running franchise like Tombraider. Its pretty niche.

Tombraider is a 3rd party game that was paid to be exclusive (read, paid to have taken away from PS4 owners that actually would have bought it) and then hung out to dry by being doomed to poor sales. They have probably permanently damaged a franchise that was dying til it was rebooted and PS gamers are the main reason a sequel was even warranted as well has having had every game in that franchise on a Playstation. Thats why people are upset over it.

Tearway not selling and Tombraider selling are not even close to the same thing and people are right to criticize Square for it.

@ wodan, I just noticed that. Uncharted collection sold more than gears collection and gears collection is on par with halo5. That's crazy. But you have to keep in mind this doesn't count as digital sales.

Its really sad to see good games fail because of stupid exclusivity contracts.. 3rd party games that arent FPS's will fail if exclusive to M$.. This year probably cemented that since TR failed so miserably.. It was discounted to $40 on top of that!

The UC PS4 bundle is out of stock on Amazon and also the Star Wars PS4 bundle. They can still be picked up from third party sellers, though more expensive. Give us that stock Sony.

I don't blame Xbox One owners for not buying Rise of the Tomb Raider. Square Enix did Xbox One owners dirty by revealing the PS4 release date of ROTR before the Xbox version was even released. You don't do an entire fan base like that and then expect them to buy your game. If Xbox gamers thought the game was an exclusive they would probably been more apt to buy it, but since you were so worried about the PS4 fanboy backlash you ended up alienating potential Xbox buyers and that is bad business.

You know just when you think youve seen it all, the internet reminds you, you aint seen nothing yet.

Is this reverse psychology? Some sort of Bizarro World flipping the tables scenario? Can you even acknowledge how Square "did PS4 owners dirty" by shunning the fanbase that made Tombraider what it is? Announcing a release date was the least they could do. Xbox owners arent missing out on anything knowing PS4 owners will get it a year late.

Well I said 6 months ago Tombraider would be the highest quality, best rated financial bomb this year. Thats what happens when you ignore your loyal fanbase and trade long term success for short term payoff.

And no, I dont blame Microsoft for this, any more than I would blame a shark for biting me if I was swimming next to it. Thats just a shark being a shark. This is all Squares fault and I feel especially bad for Crystal Dynamics. They were hamstrung out of the gate with no chance to succeed as far as sales go.

And its going to bomb on PS4 too, because we all know Squares greed will make them sell it full price, justifying that by throwing in the DLC and calling it GotY, but PS4 owners arent going to want to pay full price for a year old game.

Good job Square doing long term damage to a franchise that had only just got back on its feet after years of fading into obscurity, and for shafting those that accomplished that for you. Boggles the mind.

Oh well, still want the game as it looks great. Cant wait to buy it second hand on whatever platform I get it on.

This is why there was a big reaction and complain for this deal. People didn't wanted Tomb Raider to flop but with that deal it was inevitable. Tomb Raider doesn't have its fanbase on Xbox and it was totally u fair to put it against Fallout 4. MS and Square Enix sacrificed this game for nothing.

A shame Just Cause 3 didn't sell better. It's actually a ton of fun. I think IGN really hurt the console versions. They ran stories about it performing poorly on consoles before the game released and then gave the console version a TERRIBLE review. I haven't encountered any problems with the PS4 version other than long load times.

And I'm surprised PS4 is winning in the US this holiday season. PS4 didn't really release a thing over the last 2 months while XB1 had Halo, Tomb Raider, and backwards compatibility.

Nice for Xenoblade to be up there! Its a great game so far and proves the wii u has some life left in it. Ive been going between ps4 bloodborne, xb1 fallout 4 and xenoblade and its xenoblade that has me wanting more. That game has no right looking this good on the wii u... Makes many ps4 and x1 games look bad. Awesome game though. About the only game that could tear me away from fallout.

Honestly, it’s kind of bizarre how rough native Switch players had it with this game for years. Aside from the original Wii U release, Xenoblade has pretty much been a series that felt better on emulators than on the actual hardware, mainly because of the blurry image quality and unstable frame rates.

It’s good to finally see an official version of the game that doesn’t look terrible and apparently is stable.

This is exactly why hardware matters to a decent extent.

It effectively took a 900p@30fps, maxed it to 1080p, then used DLSS to upscale it 4x in resolution to render at 4K, while also doubling frame rate.
