Kojima's New Studio Isn't A Mistake

"Every once and while our very own Walter Winchester spews an opinion that is wildly unpopular. The few times he’s contributed people have gotten irked. I can’t blame them.

Just a few hours ago Mr. Kojima and Sony mentioned a timed exclusive partnership with Kojima’s new studio. That’s wonderful news. While Walter may disagree and thinks it’s detrimental to the industry we cherish, I offer a different point of view."

Why would anyone even think its a mistake? That is the best thing that happened this year.

He can finally do something else other than MGS. And he is very talent and can do some awesome games.

Next to Minecraft and King acquisitions, easily one of the biggest moves in gaming, not the BIGGEST, but still a pretty significant move.

Kojima is easily one of the most praised developers in all of gaming. His name itself markets a game to a degree that most can't, regardless of what money is thrown at marketing.

DarkOcelet3808d ago

I could give to $hits about King's acquisitions, this is for the people who actually care about the gaming industry is the biggest and most important one.

Not throw billions on a mobile game. SMH.

_-EDMIX-_3808d ago

@Dark- remove your emotions bud. This is merely looking at it from a business perspective. I don't play mobile games, that doesn't mean it wasn't a big deal.

I'm sorry but mobile games are still games. I love MGS games too, but I'm not just going to ignorantly pretend mobile gaming isn't a thing, just cause I like MGS series.

Separate the two bud, you legit can't keep adding so much personal, emotional feelings into discussions due to what you like playing.

I never stated this was based on "people who actually care" about anything.

Business, legit learn to not interject personal feelings into such things, what I'm saying isn't really about how I feel personally about mobile or AAA etc.

Even in that regard...someone cares about mobile too bud, sorry but those numbers don't lie about mobile gamers, they are gamers too.

"I could give to $hits about" Who stated you needed to? Do I need to LOVE KFC to praise a very sound and smart business move? Its irrelevant.

Again...what I'm stating is in regards to business, not my personal feelings. I own MGSV, day 1, I own no mobile games lol. I don't even care for MS as a publisher and I praised their Minecraft move, it was brilliant and an ace buy up. I'm unbiased in such situations as what I'm talking about is merely the business perspective, not personal.

Becuase people that think it is are just salty he isn't making his first game on their preferred console

ChrisW3808d ago

If wanted to think about it in a quirky positive way, the name of the new studio could be "A Mistake"

CaptainObvious8783808d ago

I'm super excited about the exclusive announcement. Not because I want xbone owners to miss out, but because Kojima, without being restrained for both consoles (and having to cater to a weaker console) has the potential to create a much better game in a faster time frame.

It's a miracle is what it is, not a mistake

Jalva3808d ago (Edited 3808d ago )

It's neither a mistake nor a miracle, it's just business, Kojima is a money making machine and Sony knows it, they would have been fools to not make him an offer.

_-EDMIX-_3808d ago

Agreed, I think we all want to know just how much money Sony offered, they are publishing too. I know other publishers likely came in with millions in mind lol

Kojima is saying its due to the relationship with Sony, which I don't disagree to a degree, but I feel they likely came in with a better number.

We all want to know those details doe! lol

Bathyj3808d ago

"Kojima is saying its due to the relationship with Sony, which I don't disagree to a degree, but I feel they likely came in with a better number. "

I dont believe that. MS for example could have beat their offer, we keep being reminded how rich they are and how rich Sony arent.

Its like saying I can make a square peg go in a round hole better because Im pushing harder, when in reality a round peg is just a better fit.

Personally I think Kojima is just going where he wanted to be all along, to worry less about different configurations and worry more about the game.

BitbyDeath3808d ago

@Bathyj, MS didn't even put up money for one of their own studios (Bioware).
They probably didn't try for Kojima either especially since the games he makes do not suit the Xbox fan base.

_-EDMIX-_3808d ago (Edited 3808d ago )

@Bat-"I dont believe that. MS for example could have beat their offer, we keep being reminded how rich they are and how rich Sony arent"

But you don't know how much MS might have been willing to spend. They had a deal with the olf FF creator when he left square and his projects didn't go on to do huge millions. Consider this is also about software sales, MS may not feel they can gain huge sales in software from a title from him.

What if the number for MS would have to be way, way larger then Sony's due to the install base difference? We don't really know.

I don't think it was just money alone, could be future sales, could be who owns the IP, Japanese appeal etc. Lots might have been factored and what MS offered might have not been worth it to him.

Who knows really.

" MS didn't even put up money for one of their own studios (Bioware)"

They never owned Bioware. When Bioware was bought, it was bought with Pandemic or the company that technically owned both Bioware and Pandemic, MS never owned them.

To think its a mistake, you must be out of your damn mind

Aloy-Boyfriend3808d ago (Edited 3808d ago )

More like out of the console he's developing for

ClayRules20123808d ago

Kojima's New Studio is a Blessing.

He's free to create whatever kinda've games he wants to make now.

I look forward to whatever he decides to make next. I'm sure it'll be splendid =)

Rookie_Monster3808d ago

Kojima is not the guy that made Devil"s Third. He will be even better with giving more time and freedom to make the game he always wanted. The only issue I can see is budgeting and hopefully Sony as the publisher can help fund the large portion of it.

_-EDMIX-_3808d ago

They spent 52 million on Heavy Rain....from a team they didn't own, that hadn't made a console game of that magnitude in 5 years, when PS3 was in 3rd.

Something tells me Sony gave this due 80 mill or more, it wouldn't shock me if they did. I'm pretty sure they know Kojima's next game will move massive units in terms of software.

I think they will be fine investing in it, especially if they again invested 50 million for QD for Heavy Rain (marketing included).
