Best look at Nintendo NX Controller yet

Extraquarter-"It's no secret that Nintendo is hard at work on the next gaming console to succeed the Nintendo Wii U. As with any gaming company invested in hardware, while your current system is in its prime, you are at busy working away on the next-generation of hardware. What makes Nintendo next system, code-named NX unique, is that it's becoming Nintendo replacement for the Wii U that was supposed to be this generation console."

Let's hope that Nintendo doesn't go completely overboard with this controller. It should be unique, but not so different that it alienates the majority of core gamers.

Look at what Sony did with the DualShock 4 for example. It has unique features such as the Light Bar, Touchpad, and motion sensing. However it's overall shape is still something that many core gamers find very comfortable to use to the point that many find it their favorite controller this gen. Nintendo should take note of this method of subtlety in their own fashion.

Kalebninja3819d ago

i think what they want to do is keep the screen from the wii u gamepad but avoid having a bulky controller that everyone complained about. i think its a good way of being able to keep the touch screen without having to sacrifice a traditionally size/shaped controller. I hope they aren't dumb and dont abandon physical buttons if this is a concept for The NX controlle.r

DashArrivals3818d ago

They would never be that stupid as to abandon buttons or control sticks lol... i hope. I really want to buy the next gen NX, but I won't if they can't play Wii U games. Just my opinion.

UnholyLight3818d ago

This. The controller will be designed properly. I can't see them abandoning physical buttons on the controller period.

Not a chance.

ShinMaster3818d ago (Edited 3818d ago )

Or make the screen smaller.
No physical buttons is the dumbest idea for a console.
I hope they're not trying to force us to use the terrible touch controls smartphones use.

@ FallenAngle1984
"It should be unique"
Does it really have to?

It's the games that should be unique and give us new experiences. Controls shouldn't be frustrating and alienate most gamers.

guitarded773818d ago (Edited 3818d ago )

The size of the gamepad isn't the problem for me. It's the battery life and the ergonomics. The could have kept the overall size of the screen, and just molded the controller into more of a grip instead of a huge rectangle. Handles on the sides and rounded upper and lower bout.

@UnholyLight

If they do abandon buttons, they are officially dead in the console market. Buttons give the physical, real-time feedback gamers need, and there is not one touch screen that has ever been accurate enough for gaming, and they have a higher fail rate than physical controllers.

Nintendo was a large part of what came to be the "traditional controller".

A lot of people enjoy the Steam unit; Sony and Microsoft are encouraging us to put headgear on..

Sony execs are on record suggesting Playstation may evolve into a cloud service! The Dual Shock is honestly teetering on nostalgia..

Neonridr3818d ago (Edited 3818d ago )

LOL, the light bar. A revolution in gaming ladies and gentlemen.

And I am pretty sure motion sensing is not exclusive to the Dualshock, considering the gamepad offers the same sensing that you speak of.

ShinMaster3818d ago (Edited 3818d ago )

The lightbar isn't just a light. It functions as a Move controller. The touchpad was a better example.
However, one of the bigger features on the controller is the dedicated Share button that allows you to instantly snap a screenshot or record gameplay.

pcz3818d ago

the screen on the controller needs to be useful. it shouldnt be there just for the sake of being 'different'.. it needs to be worth the added expense a screen brings..

lets not forget the wiius second screen was practically useless 80percent of the time.

i must say i HATE the idea of an oval screen. the screen needs to be 16:9 or some other standard screen ratio...

i also strongly dislike the idea that parts of the screen will be obscured by buttons, d pads and inevitably, your hands/fingers.

what the fxck are they thinking?

Anyone remember the wiiu controller patent? Remember all of those buttons it left out?

The point is nintendo has a full face touch screen that can have real analog/button with the best of both worlds.

I'm glad this isn't the game pad 2. It's a little more.

It is also possible that this is one of many controller designs. They could give you the option of buttons or a fully configurable touch button interface.

If nintendo is using it then I'm sure it works pretty well since they have more skill based game play than story based.

I'm liking the idea and I can't wait to see a new revision of it. 2016 will be grand.

This looks like a mess. Nintendo is setting themselves for failure if the patents are anything to go by. ;)

marloc_x3819d ago

What do you make of the card slot WUT?

This may not allude to an NX controller, but the NX itself..

RPGrinder3818d ago

Yeah, because a patent always shows the final product right? Stop trolling. I know it is hard, but stop

Neonridr3818d ago

because patents are always indicative of a final product right? SMH

Why do you post without thinking first?

MSBAUSTX3818d ago

I think this could be an interesting concept, not really the design of this patent, for a new controller. The dual screen has been very helpful for years starting with the DS and now the 3DS. There is no doubt that off TV play is useful and here to stay. Microsoft and Sony have both miniver Nintendo and provide the same thing now. I do agree though that Nintendo needs to nail the controller perfectly. This looks an aweful lot like a modified GameCube controller. The Cpntroller that has been called the best Nintendo controller ever. So if they can fit a screen somehow on it I am all for it for all of the same reasons I like dual screens now. However the controller can't be any bigger than a Vita or 3DS if they do it. Otherwise it is too bulky and will be far too expensive. Interesting to see how this pans out.

People need to stop.
Nobody knows what the NX is or what it looks like.
They didn't even show the damn thing yet!

"What we think the NX controller will look like " should be the title...

U.S. patent examiner rejects Nintendo’s summoning characters patent as obvious: non-final ruling

The rejection is non-final (and even when such rejections are labeled as “final”, the process is far from over, given that there can be, at minimum, an appeal to the Federal Circuit).

Good, as they should! A game mechanic like that shouldn't be locked behind a patent, and Nintendo didn't invent it either.

PRIMORDUS57d ago (Edited 57d ago )

Nintendo wants to keep wasting money on bullshit lawsuits, real smart in this economy. They should put that money aside for other game projects. On the other hand, I don't care if they waste it all either, and they are screwed in the future maybe that will teach them a lesson.

Nintendo Suing U.S. Government Over Tariffs

The fact that you have ANY disagrees will forever baffle me. And to the (apparent) MAGA contingent that exists on this website, enjoy your 8-9 dollar gas.

AuraAbjure82d ago (Edited 82d ago )

Yes, they had better be pissed after Trump told them the way they rip off the USA is over.

EveryPlatformGamer83d ago

LOL I read this on gaff, will they refund the money back to the gamers? highly unlikely. Didn't they just raise prices and pass it onto the gamers? Only Nintendo would send out the Ninjas to the US government.

-Foxtrot83d ago

That’s what I was thinking, imagine them winning hypothetically, getting a s**t load of money back which they would have lost if they hadn’t raised their prices and it’s business as normal.

It would just mean people paid more for no reason since they got the money back anyway.

Outside_ofthe_Box82d ago (Edited 82d ago )

A lot of companies partially passed the cost to consumers instead of all of it. They would still have to at least pay that back to gamers, but we know that won't happen. What's also sad is that prices won't come back down after the initial hike caused by tariffs.

People didn't understand the full repercussions of tariffs. That alone should have cost him the presidency if people knew it was a permanent price hike for consumers

Inverno83d ago

The people should sue these companies for having to over pay cause of these tariffs.

Eonjay83d ago

Naw they should sue the government for forcing the tax to begin with. No one reasonably expects these companies to absorb the taxes. Many smaller companies tried and were shut down or faced to increase prices to try to maintain their business. The tariffs effect everyone.

Inverno81d ago

I meant it mostly as a joke cause we all know the costs of these tariffs were passed onto the consumer. But it's seems no matter how vocal we are here in the states our "representatives" don't seem to care enough to represent us. And things are about to get worse.

Killer2020UK82d ago

The companies were doing what the law required then to do, the tariffs however were illegally implemented. Usually it's criminals we punish, you seem to have different ideas 🤷‍♂️
