Genei Ibun Roku #FE 5-year Development Time, Changes in Concept

Alongside the recently released commercial for Genei Ibun Roku #FE was a developer post by Nintendo producer Hitoshi Yamagami about the game’s development.

--The concept of Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem has been in production for 5 years.
--When producer Yamagami first heard the idea from Nintendo director Kaori Ando, the plan was for the game to be a fantasy strategy RPG.
--There have been opinions such as “Where is Megaten? This is not like Fire Emblem,” though the initial concept of the game reflected these thoughts.
--While the direction of the game shifted, Yamagami and the team believe that the path they chose was what they thought to be interesting.

Ya no.

I like Fire Emblem. I like Pokemon. But that doesn't mean Fire Emblem X Pokemon is a good idea.

Summons753557d ago

They clearly thought the same thing too if it never went past just an idea and maybe some concept art from whoever pitched the idea. I agree though the two wouldn't work well together.

TMS #Fe is awesome. I highly recommend it. It's by atlus after all :)

5 Major Lessons Nintendo Can Learn From Fire Emblem Fates

"Fire Emblem Fates released in North America last month and suffice it to say the game performed incredibly well in the territory. In its first month on sale, one version of the game reached the ninth place spot on the NPD charts. In fact, if you combine sales of Birthright, Conquest, and the special edition of the game, sales would have reached the top 3 for the month. Not only that, Fire Emblem Fates was so incredibly successful in its first month that it more than tripled the first-month sales of the second highest-selling game in the franchise: Fire Emblem: Awakening.

Meanwhile, the game garnered love from the critics. The current Metacritic average for Fire Emblem Fates: Birthright is an 87, while the average for Conquest is an 88.

With all this success from a supposedly “niche” franchise, Nintendo can learn quite a bit from the release of Fire Emblem: Fates. Perhaps if the company can take these lessons to heart, it can create more behemoths out of previously unappreciated franchises" -- Nintendo Enthusiast.

Fire Emblem is a Nintendo victory this gen. While in the past I shook my head at some of their decisions especially during the WiiU years, their direction with the 3DS has been phenomenal.

Got the Special Edition of FE Fates and it was worth every penny. 50 hours in and I have not even finished half of one campaign. Kudos to Nintendo.

Yea I started with Birthright...got the SE, but I'm not even half way through it...not even close.

So much content in these games and I have 3 of them to play. Going to take my time with them.

* I'd love to see a brand new Nintendo IP strategy game for the NX console that is inspired by Fire Emblem & Final Fantasy Tactics Advance 2.

Kudos on keeping the Japanese dubs

LAWSON723727d ago (Edited 3727d ago )

Yeah I want english, and not offering an option is a cheap move. It is a joke that all these devs/pubs have to make cheap products. I have very high doubts for this and that Lost Reavers (?).

It is like these games are only being made so they can say they were not canned. I want to be wrong and I hope the only negative is JP only because Atlus is awesome.

At this point I just want the NX to be shown, and push for a great new generation with decent market share so budget costs like this and mediocre products like Devil's Turd (that lost Reavers looks atrocious and I think it will be of the same caliber) quit happening.

As far as I am concerned Atlus/Nintendo are putting zero effort into the marketing for this at least outside of JP. Kudos for skimping your product, good work

I agree, even when I watch anime I prefer the Japanese voices over an English dub any day...

Best part of the Nintendo Direct in my opinion.

Totally captures the Persona vibe. Well done, Atlus. Two games that will eat my life this year.

ErogeMaster3726d ago

But no SMT vibe Persona isnt the only game made by SMT ya know.

DarXyde3726d ago

I have no idea what you're trying to say.
