Gonna wait until we have all the info and know what's actually included in each release (they aren't episodes) before I decide whether this is a good or bad thing.

djaparatic3810d ago

Finally someone intelligent. Thumbs up!

ninsigma3810d ago (Edited 3810d ago )

haha thanks. I've waited for so long for an FF7 remake that I'm not gonna instantly get mad about it when some unfinished information comes by. Everyone is kinda just ruining the game for themselves. This could turn out to be the best thing for the game. Oh well. I'll let everyone cry foul with their false information and I'll carry on in my happiness that so far the game looks great :)

geddesmond3810d ago

Look its like this. I'm a huge FF fan and I'm a huge gaming fan. I credit all that to FF7. Before that game I was a casual gamer. Yeah I always played video games from the commador 64 and amstrad up until the PS4 but before FF7 I only played when I was bored which was rare.

I'd gladly pay 1k euros for a FF7 remake. So if It comes to us in a full game, a game set in a trilogy, an episode game or even if they charged per chapter and had like 100 chapters I wouldn't care.

Can us gamers stop giving out about this please. If you don't want to buy it then don't buy it and save everyone the headache.

The first RE game I really enjoyed in years was RE Revelations 2 an that was episodic and it came with a lot of content for a cheap price. Gamers have faith. No company wants to screw up the release of one of the most loved games in the history of gaming.

ninsigma3810d ago

Well that's what I'm saying. There's no point throwing a hissy fit until we have all the info. Currently I'm happy to be getting a remake and so far it looks great!

averagejoe263810d ago

They aren't episodes.

Seriously, wtf is wrong with everyone?

Did anyone read the interviews with the creators?

I've never seen such false information taken as truth in my life.

Gamers and sites a like have this so wrong it's quite embarrassing.

ninsigma3810d ago

I'm sure they did. I think a few people (not everyone who's upset) were just looking for a reason to hate it tbh.

goldwyncq3810d ago

Do you also refer to the individual LOTR movies as episodes?

gangsta_red3810d ago

Do we refer to the individual Star Wars movies as episodes?

Gambit_the_White3810d ago (Edited 3810d ago )

They are multiple parts, each being its own fully featured, all-out RPG. Each one supposedly offers a unique experience. Did NO ONE read the actual interviews with the devs?

gangsta_red3810d ago

So why can they not be called episodes? Because that's what Square told you?
It all has to do with one central story told through multiple games.

If Square gave you a fork and told you it was a camel would you then start calling all forks camels?

Gambit_the_White3810d ago

No.

The matter is, them being called "episodes" makes people think they are chapters along the lines of Telltale Games, where you play 2 hours and then that chapter is done and you wait months for the next one, but that's not the case. With each chapter of this supposedly being its own game, I don't see what all the fuzz is about. It could even be that the first part is Final Fantasy VII in its entirety and the later parts are sequels that add onto the story, like Crisis Core, or Advent Children. I could be wrong, but so could everyone else. No one will know anything for sure until we get more info.

Gambit_the_White3810d ago

And just like that, I have been proven wrong by the developers, haha. Here's a message from Yoshinori Kitase:

"One thing that we wanted to be clear about during this weekend to accompany the new trailer was the scale of this project. We wanted to tell you this now and not in the future so that you’d share our vision for what we want to deliver. The biggest reason why we haven’t done a remake until now is because it’s a massive undertaking to reconstruct FINAL FANTASY VII from the ground up with the current technology. Producing a proper HD remake of FINAL FANTASY VII that maintains the same feeling of density of the original would result in a volume of content that couldn’t possibly fit into one instalment.

We’ve seen everyone’s comments and reactions to the news that FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE will be a multi-part series and many have speculated correctly as to the reason why we have made this decision. If we were to try to fit everything from the original into one remake instalment, we would have to cut various parts and create a condensed version of FINAL FANTASY VII. We knew none of you would have wanted that."

gangsta_red3810d ago (Edited 3810d ago )

Why do we have to automatically assume that all games that have "episodic" content HAS to be structured like a Tell Tale game?

No matter what label Square puts on it, it's an overall story broken up into different games. Just like episodes of a TV show, each episode different telling the same overall story.

I personally have no problem with what they're doing no matter what we call it.

Gambit_the_White3810d ago

I don't assume it and I see you don't either, but the majority of people seem to see it that way. The word itself is not really the problem, it's just that article writers are using it in a negative way to create bad publicity for the game.

Anyway, I have no problem with it either. I know the first part is going to be a day one purchase for me :)

rainslacker3809d ago

In short, the term episodic conjures up certain connotations because it's used in very specific ways in our community.

More shortly, it's about context.

Otherwise, I agree with you, episodic isn't inherently bad, nor does it have to be defined to a specific thing. And it doesn't matter to me for the time being due to not knowing enough, and understanding just how massive the game is, and how much content there already is to fill multiple games.

Trilithon3810d ago

Basically they are doing this to buy more time. We should be glad they aren't trying to cram it all into one and release a rushed project while FFXV is also in development. On the other hand perhaps it would be better to take the time and develop it true to the original. If it aint broke don't fix it. Why change something that has already proven to be successful. They must like living on the edge...

Scrivlar3810d ago

Why are so many people sore about calling them episodes?! I really do not get this, It's one continuous story broken down into several parts..not unlike...a tv show!!, which has what kids? Episodes!! And what's wrong with that? I'd much rather wait for a properly done in tv show quality like the Daredevil one, than have a shitty movie one like we got before it.

ninsigma3810d ago

Because episode gives the impression that the game will be in small parts due to games like tell tales games and life is strange. Nothing wrong with this games, just this is going to be nothing like them. The word in itself is not actually a problem. It's people using it in a negative to spread false information about something they don't have a clue about and something the devs never said once.

I’d love to know how many units have been sold of all the Final Fantasy VII franchise games, including the original, the remakes, spin offs such as Crisis Core, and mobile games Ever Crisis. I bet a fair few copies.

TheDreamCorridor82d ago

Modern day publisher be like: "Failed to meet sales expectations. Pivoting to live service."

If you already own it... There, I saved you the click on a deliberately misleading article.

DivineHand125106d ago

I bought the game yesterday on steam for $4 because Square Enix is trying to replace it with a version that has no mod support.

Prior to yesterday, I had no idea the game had so many great mods until people started making a fuss out of it.

Knightofelemia106d ago

I wish Square would port other old games to newer systems I want Xenogears.

gold_drake105d ago

You can thank FF7 scaring Baldur's Gate 2's director 'S***less' for every RPG since

But BG2 didn't emerge in a vacuum, and in a recent chat with Slandered Gaming it emerged that—while we can thank BG2 for a lot of our favourite RPGs since—we have a whole other game to thank for BG2. That'd be Final Fantasy 7, which lit a fire under BG2 director James Ohlen to go all out with the game's structure and companions, per Trent Oster—who worked on the original Baldur's Gate and has since become CEO of Beamdog, the studio behind the BG1 and BG2 Enhanced Editions.
