Nintendo's Virtual Console: Good Or Bad?

Nintendo’s Virtual Console for the Wii U allows many gamers have grown up with Nintendo consoles to relive the past. These include the Nintendo Entertainment System, Super NES, Nintendo 64, the Nintendo DS, and Game Boy Advanced. Many people have fond memories of playing these games by themselves, with family and their friends, and whether or not they completed it didn’t matter, having a lot of fun did.

thugtrio3823d ago

Nintendo has failed to utilize it to its fullest.

nintendo18893823d ago

Definitely, there was so much potential, and boy did they botch it up big time.

Bahamut3823d ago

Yeah, I mean they JUST added Ocarina of Time and Donkey Kong 64 like a week ago. The games really trickle in.

RJ920093823d ago

Dk64 has been on there a long time now. I've owned it since summer

Bahamut3823d ago

@RJ92009

Whoops, my mistake.

3-4-53823d ago

It's decent but could be better.

It's not bad.

nintendo18893823d ago

Yup, definitely needs improvement.

I think it's pretty shoddy that GBA and DS games haven't still been added to 3DS's Virtual Console

nintendo18893823d ago

Well, the GBA Ambassador program actually used a virtual machine rather than emulation, but it's definitely powerful enough to run GBA games, they just foolishly chosen not to, it's a shame too.

Rebel_Scum3823d ago

Ya but in a way its a good thing. All they do is straight ports that can save state and don't offer anything else like being able to map the controls to different buttons.

Lack of control config is a big problem, one example are the mario titles on 3DS. So unnatural to have A as the run fast button and B as jump.

You have to angle your thumb in the opposite direction, it is really stupid.

RosweeSon3823d ago

Or SNES games I really want super Mario world on my 3ds.

Warshade3823d ago (Edited 3823d ago )

As long as games are tied to the console and not an account I will never buy digital games on a nintendo console again.

If they really wanted sale they would push to have every single title possible on their virtual console. It is pretty behind the times that its still more viable to use an emulator than support the company that brings so much fun.

nintendo18893823d ago

Exactly, the games that they do own, the games without licensing issues they should bring to the eShop.

PlatinumGX3823d ago

Very bad, there are still no Gamecube games.

nintendo18893823d ago

Not officially anyways, while it is feasible, that's outside my jurisdiction on how to accomplish, but since the Gamecube and Wii are both PPC, it would be done via a VM.

stalepie3823d ago

I think it's a great thing but wish it extended to other platforms and enabled cross buy, as well as emulation improvements with some systems. Also the Wii U's NES emulation is said to look too dark? Agree that the games shouldn't be tied to console, but maybe they shouldn't be tied to an account either but like GOG.

nintendo18893823d ago

Yeah, there are issues with the palette itself I believe, it looks a tad too dark compared to other VC systems on the Wii U, not entirely sure why. And I agree, games need to be tied to an account and not to the console.

U.S. patent examiner rejects Nintendo’s summoning characters patent as obvious: non-final ruling

The rejection is non-final (and even when such rejections are labeled as “final”, the process is far from over, given that there can be, at minimum, an appeal to the Federal Circuit).

Good, as they should! A game mechanic like that shouldn't be locked behind a patent, and Nintendo didn't invent it either.

PRIMORDUS49d ago (Edited 49d ago )

Nintendo wants to keep wasting money on bullshit lawsuits, real smart in this economy. They should put that money aside for other game projects. On the other hand, I don't care if they waste it all either, and they are screwed in the future maybe that will teach them a lesson.

Nintendo Suing U.S. Government Over Tariffs

The fact that you have ANY disagrees will forever baffle me. And to the (apparent) MAGA contingent that exists on this website, enjoy your 8-9 dollar gas.

AuraAbjure74d ago (Edited 74d ago )

Yes, they had better be pissed after Trump told them the way they rip off the USA is over.

EveryPlatformGamer75d ago

LOL I read this on gaff, will they refund the money back to the gamers? highly unlikely. Didn't they just raise prices and pass it onto the gamers? Only Nintendo would send out the Ninjas to the US government.

-Foxtrot75d ago

That’s what I was thinking, imagine them winning hypothetically, getting a s**t load of money back which they would have lost if they hadn’t raised their prices and it’s business as normal.

It would just mean people paid more for no reason since they got the money back anyway.

Outside_ofthe_Box75d ago (Edited 75d ago )

A lot of companies partially passed the cost to consumers instead of all of it. They would still have to at least pay that back to gamers, but we know that won't happen. What's also sad is that prices won't come back down after the initial hike caused by tariffs.

People didn't understand the full repercussions of tariffs. That alone should have cost him the presidency if people knew it was a permanent price hike for consumers

Inverno75d ago

The people should sue these companies for having to over pay cause of these tariffs.

Eonjay75d ago

Naw they should sue the government for forcing the tax to begin with. No one reasonably expects these companies to absorb the taxes. Many smaller companies tried and were shut down or faced to increase prices to try to maintain their business. The tariffs effect everyone.

Inverno74d ago

I meant it mostly as a joke cause we all know the costs of these tariffs were passed onto the consumer. But it's seems no matter how vocal we are here in the states our "representatives" don't seem to care enough to represent us. And things are about to get worse.

Killer2020UK74d ago

The companies were doing what the law required then to do, the tariffs however were illegally implemented. Usually it's criminals we punish, you seem to have different ideas 🤷‍♂️
