Fallout 4 Review | Hey Poor Player

Hey Poor Player's Adam Foster writes - "Forty hours into Fallout 4, I feel like I’ve barely scratched the surface, but I don’t feel compelled to continue. There’s tons I haven’t seen or done, but the content I have experienced seems like a series of incredibly safe moves that don’t push the series forward (or in any direction at all). It feels like an also-ran: it’s more of the same, without the novelty and magic, and whether you were into Fallout 3 will determine entirely whether you’ll be interested in Fallout 4."

True, I did feel like the conversation system in F4 was kinda "dumbed down" or incomplete, but now there's voice acting. It really improved the game. Listening to your character's voice adds more personality to it.

I'll be honest, I look at this game and New Vegas and don't see a lot of meaningful progression for the series.

Shinuz3827d ago

Well its the same thing with the elder scroll series, they keep on removing stuff found in previous entries.

New Vegas was a good progression for the series, especially after Failout 3.

yesterday i finished the story mode , and i thought that the game rating should be 7 or 7.5/10 no less or more
the animation is really bad , character movement in first and third person is sluggish , the graphics are outdated but the lighting system is great , the world is less interesting than FO3 IMPO

I personally think the game is spectacular. 9.5/10 for me. Bethesda RPGs are just so well done.

I really don't think Fallout 4 is a spectacular RPG, but a spectacular exploration game. I have about 140 hours clocked right now and i have little excitement to play the main quests. Main Quest line just feels too damn serious for a Fallout game. I enjoy side quests more because they seem to have this more humorous undertone in most of them. But overall quest desing is really lazy in F4. Go there, kill everything, come back, over and over again.
All i want to do is explore every building and area. Read those little storytelling pieces from holotapes, terminals and notes, that are tied to the location.
New dialogue system bugs me a lot. It's just too simple and vague and lacks any kind of depth. I really hope they go back to silent protagonist, skill checks, list of answers route on next TES and Fallout. Player character voice acting IMO brings nothing to the game. It can even be really weird at time. Like you pick an answer and voice actor is delivering lines with rage and 10 seconds later you pick next line and his voice tone is a chappy happy laid back weed bro.

They need to look at Morrowind and see what the progression should have been from there instead of the regression we got with the next 2 games. They weren’t horrible games but they could have been so much more.

Fallout 4 just felt too streamlined and accessible to me, the perk system was not as fun as it was in Fallout 3, not saying Fallout 3 didn't have issues but 4 just felt like a complete step back.

mastershredder193d ago

So the part where you just sold the same games for the last 10 years while you focused on 76 and merch, was not a reset from the "creative" aspect eh? How very Todd of you.

I bought Fallout 4 (I loved Fallout 3) at launch and I couldn't bring myself to finish it or even get close to finishing it. It was soooo damned boring and bland. I played on a very hard difficulty and I had hundreds of stimpaks. One of the only games I've played for a while and not ended up finishing it. I hated it. Just flat out hated it.
