IGN: Final Fantasy VII Advertising Error

Yet another rumor over the greatly desired remake. Last week, rumors began to spread online once again in reaction to a series of photos and videos depicting what appeared to be an advertisement for Final Fantasy VII for the PS3. The item had a release date of the 16th of this month and was displayed at the bottom of an in-store advertisement. While many believed that these photos were taken at a Best Buy store, there's no way to be certain that Best Buy was the outlet in question (as no store logo can be seen). These advertisements are clearly erroneous because there's no reason behind a remake being released so suddenly when its existence has never been officially confirmed. Regardless, we contacted a representative at Square Enix to clarify this matter and while they didn't have an official comment to make, they had no idea why such an odd advertisement would pop up in the first place.

I’d love to know how many units have been sold of all the Final Fantasy VII franchise games, including the original, the remakes, spin offs such as Crisis Core, and mobile games Ever Crisis. I bet a fair few copies.

Modern day publisher be like: "Failed to meet sales expectations. Pivoting to live service."

If you already own it... There, I saved you the click on a deliberately misleading article.

DivineHand125124d ago

I bought the game yesterday on steam for $4 because Square Enix is trying to replace it with a version that has no mod support.

Prior to yesterday, I had no idea the game had so many great mods until people started making a fuss out of it.

Knightofelemia124d ago

I wish Square would port other old games to newer systems I want Xenogears.

You can thank FF7 scaring Baldur's Gate 2's director 'S***less' for every RPG since

But BG2 didn't emerge in a vacuum, and in a recent chat with Slandered Gaming it emerged that—while we can thank BG2 for a lot of our favourite RPGs since—we have a whole other game to thank for BG2. That'd be Final Fantasy 7, which lit a fire under BG2 director James Ohlen to go all out with the game's structure and companions, per Trent Oster—who worked on the original Baldur's Gate and has since become CEO of Beamdog, the studio behind the BG1 and BG2 Enhanced Editions.
