The norm for multiplats.

Both versions are extremely well optimized though. Its shame that the game doesn't have more content.

I think everyone on here can safely say that the lower resolutions were worth it, that looks absolutely drop dead gorgeous

4:45 into the video, Jesus Christ, say what you want about the game but that's some of the best visuals I've seen this gen

ABizzel13854d ago

I agree. It's definitely not GOTY, but it's without question winning best graphics and technical achievement awards.

The lighting and textures in this game are unrivaled thus far....and running at 60fps.

Immorals3854d ago

And many more games could achieve this is the developers ditched 1080p. Unfortunately this generation seems to think 1080p is more important than graphics, or framerate..

ABizzel13854d ago

@Immortal

I guess you're talking about 60fps, because the game is 1080p in split screen and it still looks amazing (but runs at 30fps).

It just depends on what the developers want, and the engines they use. The Lightning engine in Frostbite is amazing, but their textures are 3D mesh built from renders used in the films....I never understood why game developers haven't used this in their games. It just make sense to me graphically speaking to use real world renders whenever you can, ESPECIALLY on consistent mappable textures (the ground, rocks, walls, wood, etc...) to achieve a much better level of realism.

It just makes sense to me.

That being said I still haven't tried it in engine either, so my goal for the next week. Go and start designing my own real-world textures....Especially since I'm going to California for VGAs and PSX, so I'll have a lot of source material.

Firstly, *Immorals

Secondly "PlayStation 4 runs the game at 1600x900 while the Xbox One uses 1280x720."

Literally in the article.

ABizzel13854d ago

@Immorals

Firstly, be glad I acknowledge you at all

Secondly, "unlike the normal full-screen action, split-screen drops the framerate to 30fps, and increases the resolution to a full 1080p on both."

Literally the 4th video in the article

"Be glad I acknowledge you at all"

Jesus. Way to be bitter because the guy made a valid point and explained how you were wrong. It's clearly in the article that the game renders 720p on Xbox and 900p on PlayStation.

As for his original point I agree, chasing 1080p at the cost of performance has always been a terrible decision and I'm glad that developers are willing to drop resolution because as we can see, the increase in visuals and framerate makes it a no-brainer. Content and DLC practices aside, Battlefront is a stunning game and demonstrates just how little 1080p actually matters at the end of the day. I'm positive that without the relevant information, if you performed a blind test with people and asked what resolution the PS4 version was running at, they'd all say 1080p anyways given how minuscule the difference between that and 900p is.

Volkama3854d ago

Not just technically impressive either, it is aesthetically amazing. Couldn't capture and represent Star Wars better than it does, from the sparky explosions through to the hammy death animations.

It's a shame it doesn't quite nail the gameplay. Simple things like badly considered spawn points prevent it from being much fun imo. Nevermind the controversy over the amount of content, which doesn't actually bother me so much.

X1 version looks the worst and runs the worst all at 720p. It's right there in the article. Sad thing is this is nothing new. I am loving this game just wish there were more maps but there are plenty of modes and a new map coming for free in December.

Bigpappy3854d ago

This has been true for every Frostbite engine game. There are many X1 games that run above720p and perform just fine. This is definitely not the norm

MasterCornholio3854d ago (Edited 3854d ago )

But how many games look this good and run in 60FPS on consoles?

Its pretty remarkable what Dice managed to achieve on consoles. FrostBite engine is very advanced.

jokerisalive3854d ago

Have it on my PS4 and it looks real good to me. I am playing my PS4 games now on a Dell 24 inch ultrasharp edge 2 edge glass dislpay S2440L. The games look crazy on it and this one really shines. Nothing new here ...after BF4 and Hardline its ashamed EA cant get the XB1 at least to 900P.
