Microsoft discusses bringing Xbox together with PC ecosystem

One of the efforts Microsoft made this year, and clearly looks to continue it in the future, is bringing the Xbox and PC platforms together as one.

crossbuy with Xbox One would be sooooo cool. Buy it on PC, download it on Xbox One at the same time, mod it on PC, play those mods on Xbox, etc. etc.

uptownsoul3870d ago (Edited 3870d ago )

That would be awesome. And with Microsoft owned IP, its very possible. But with 3rd party owned IP, its highly unlikely since you'd be asking 3rd parties to give up either their Xbox or PC revenue streams.

Right now, 3rd parties are making revenue off both the PC & Xbox versions of their games. With what your suggesting, 3rd parties would be giving up one of those revenue streams. I don't see that happening

bleedsoe9mm3870d ago (Edited 3870d ago )

how many people buy multiple copies of the same game , they either buy it on xb1 and if they want to mess around they pirate it on pc , or they just buy the pc version and never touch the console.

uptownsoul3869d ago (Edited 3869d ago )

@bleedsoe9mm

Your missing my point. Its not about 1 person buying multiple copies, its about 1 person buying the Xbox version & getting the PC version free or vice/versa and then giving the version they dont use away...

[Example: If I own a PC & my brother owns an XB1 & we both wanted the same game, only 1 purchase would need to be made...That 3rd party would loose revenue]

Mega243870d ago

If Microsoft was indeed trying to unify both platforms, they would have given us Halo 3. But they didn't, now they can say sorry and give us Halo: MCC, that would be nice.

Lennoxb633870d ago

You've got a better chance of getting Uncharted on PC than MCC. lol

gif3870d ago (Edited 3870d ago )

We all know that they always lies and its not gonna happen.Halo is not worth anymore just look at the sale on XB1,i rather play some indie games on steam rather than average Halo shooter.

343_Guilty_Spark3870d ago

Universal games. One store. One buy. One purchase. Cross play.

Microsoft Expects More Xbox Content and Services Revenue Decline Despite Game Pass Growth

During the conference call for Q2 of FY2026, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella and CFO Amy Hood talked about the future of the xbox business.

«partly offset by growth in Xbox Game Pass.»

I take it with a big grain of salt. They've been reporting nothing about GP, only words.

We still don't have any hardware numbers, no software units sold, no subscription numbers, no PC vs console GP, we don't have any profit numbers ... we literally have nothing but overall revenue and words.

Reaper22_146d ago

Does it really matter? Are you shareholder? Gamers have to stop acting like these companies owe us something. Its obvious everything is down. Thats completely normal in all businesses. It will be up and down again.

dveio146d ago

Yes, since they don't get tired spewing out word salad 12 months a year.

"Biggest launch", "millions of players", "growth of", "here look our revenue", "We buy ABK", "We'll bring you 1st party every quarter", "Biggest this, biggest that", "We always wanted to share games with everyone", "We're growing", "biggest launch", "millions of players", ... you get the point.

They either shut up.

Or deliver numbers like Nintendo, Playstation, hell even Tencent does.

On a sidenote:

Just years ago, Microsoft wanted to buy out a whole lot more than just Zenimax and ABK. They even wanted to push Sony out and collect Nintendo in.

You bet your butt I'm demanding numbers.

In an article discussing industry matters, telling people to not worry or want better information on the industry is antithesis to the whole point of it. I'm going to try this out with all those review articles. I mean, who cares about scores, just try it out for yourself, that's the only opinion that matters.

dveio145d ago

«In an article discussing industry matters, telling people to not worry or want better information on the industry is antithesis to the whole point of it.»

Well.

That's it.

Case closed!

He might be a shareholder you can get a etorro or whatever online platform about and throw 20 bucks into Microsoft boom shareholder

BehindTheRows145d ago (Edited 145d ago )

Yes, it matters. This is business! Some gamers have to stop acting like it only matters when the company they prefer wants to play ball.

Eonjay145d ago

The fact that shareholders are also in the dark im sure is also completely fine with you and Microsoft doesn't owe them anything either amirite? Not withstanding how silly and potentially inappropriate it is for someone to defend a public company from hiding sales information, you are also completely wrong.

@varora

Thank you.

For over 10 years we've been in those quarterly discussions.

Yet Nintendo and Playstation are the only manufacturers that deliver numbers, that deliver proof, that give us numerical baselines to either brag about or compliment them.

The only fraction that's been pulling doooozens of doooozens, hundreds and thousands of word salad bribberish comments out of their Xbox'clestotitis fan cloud is the die hard Xbox community.

And by doing that they're even defending that downward spiral Xbox is suffering from.

Bring the numbers buddies, or else just stfu.

Reaper22_145d ago

Nintendo and Playstation can deliver all the numbers they want. It doesnt matter much because hardware isn't the only way to make money in the industry. Maybe decades ago but not now. That's why you see sony putting more and more games on PC. They know its the games that keeps the money coming. Consoles stagnate but not the software.
The fact is that Microsoft was and is never gonna outsell them. The competition's console sales doesnt really affect Microsoft"s profit margin much if at all.. Look at how many more consoles sony sells and then go look at what they report in profit. The gap is nowhere near the gap in console sold. Hardware doesn't dictate market trends.

IRetrouk145d ago

Microsoft doesn't report xbox profit, so how can we compare them.......
Console sales lead to those software sales, thats not a theory its a fact, old days, these days... doesn't matter, one company is doing much better than the other, and thats partly because of said console sales...

rlow1146d ago

I really think Call of Duty underperforming, the raise in subscription prices and Hoods ridiculous expectations of 30% return. Is what led to the lower numbers.

Reaper22_145d ago

Maybe, but COD sold 8 million on xbox which counted for 40% of the sales.

IRetrouk145d ago

Not even close to being true

BehindTheRows145d ago

Show us the article/sources with these sales numbers.

Chevalier145d ago

Could you show us the profit charts while you're at it? Would love to see this 'gap' you mentioned. Should be easy to show that right?

Eonjay145d ago

This whole report is confusing to me until I remember content and service are separate. Content went down... okay we get that because COD 'bombed' but Services went up because of the price increase which mitigated most of the lost from the cancelations. Okay got it.

I wouldn't blame the results on Amy but she sure as hell had unreasonable expectations.

GamePass has put Xbox in a bad position where the absolutely need PlayStation to make their numbers. So if a big game like COD bombs... they got a problem.

The fact that their service revenue (GamePass) can't drive growth on its own is a huge red flag. That was supposed to be the whole point.

And if the do good, they suck!...ok got it lol.

I think I'll post my comment from the other thread here soon, maybe, just maybe, some people might read it and realize that all these companies do very similar things....ha!! Who am I kidding...carry on good people.

Yang_kai236d ago

The last thing Microsoft needs is to enrage the PlayStation community and have them boycott Microsoft games releases on PlayStation

thesoftware730236d ago

See, this is part of what I think is a problem in gaming with "Hardcore" fans.... because of what MS may say that "Sony" gamers might not like, they would deny themselves a game that they wanna play?

That may be the problem, we put BS, made up slights, before being actually gamers.

Reaper22_235d ago

Don't worry, those gamers will be antiquated soon enough.

Jingsing236d ago (Edited 236d ago )

I mean, I haven't bought any Microsoft game on PlayStation since they started porting their games over. Most of that comes from a major lack of trust in them as a company. Microsoft only ever does moves to hurt the competition so they can ultimately dominate. They are certainly not hurting for cash. Their end goal is to move the goal posts so that everyone is using their cloud servers but that isn't enough for Microsoft, they want to have the cloud servers and be the entertainment company on top of that.

Wait so 4 million PLAYERS when everyone with Gamepass can play it is good, but you and your like claim a Sony game SELLING 10 million is a failure?

SMFH

CrashMania510d ago (Edited 510d ago )

Something something single percent of PS5 owners bought astro bot, wow what a flop.

4 million Indiana Jones *players* with access on GP on Xbox consoles and hundreds of millions of gaming PCs out there, omg what a massive success, congrats MS.

Obscure_Observer510d ago (Edited 510d ago )

Calm yourself, man.

Understand that "failure" is in the eye of the beholder.

Every company has their own particular expectations and metrics for games to achieve success based on development cost and marketing expenses vs ROI.

So don't ask me why a company would lay off people and cut budgets for a studio that has reached the milestone of over 10 million sales. Only the said company can provide you answers for that.

RauLeCreuset510d ago (Edited 510d ago )

Obscure_Observer today:

"Understand that 'failure' is in the eye of the beholder.

"Every company has their own particular expectations and metrics for games to achieve success based on development cost and marketing expenses vs ROI."

Obscure_Observer 1912 days ago arguing that attach rate defines success:

"@MasterCornholio

"100 million console sold is not the definitive metric for success anymore. You need ACTIVE PS4 owners! That´s why MAUs is more important for companies nowdays. If a multiplat game like FIFA sells 10 million copies on PS4 (100+ owners) and only 2 million copies on Xbox (45 million? users), then yes, Xbox is a failure. If the said game sold 10 million on PS4 and 5 million on Xbox, the Xbox console is clearly successful! This is called attach rate!"

Well I bet Microsoft will be happier with 4 miillion Sales when it releases on PlayStation as opposed to 4 million players.

Bookmark this comment RauLeCreuset

Knushwood Butt510d ago

I didn't think of it like that, but yeah, out of 34 million GP subscribers (let's be generous and assume it hasn't gone up), and can play the game, 'for free', only 12% (being generous and rounding up) have done so!
What were the other 30 million doing?

Gamehard510d ago

@Knushwood

They were probably out buying PS5's and the GotY Astro Bot.

Obscure_Observer510d ago (Edited 510d ago )

@Bathyj

"Well I bet Microsoft will be happier with 4 miillion Sales when it releases on PlayStation as opposed to 4 million players."

Pretty sure Microsoft will be happy with both Gamepass players and PS5 sales for Indie. No sure how well those companies monetize over "players" vs "sales" tbh, but:

Koei Tecmo was celebrating over 5 million *players* for Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty in its latest Q3 financial results, while PS5 exclusive Rise of the Ronin was nowhere to be found..

https://www.koeitecmo.co.jp...

So I guess KT were happy with Wo Long´s performance on Game Pass but not so happy with Rise of the Ronin sales on PS5.

So I guess both Ninja Gaiden games day one on Game Pass this year, comes with no surprise.

P_Bomb509d ago

being proud of your products is different than lying to yourself about it ha

KaoticBrock508d ago (Edited 508d ago )

Revenue grew only 2 percent because it's leveling out from the huge jumps it saw last year after acquiring Activision. Microsoft is now the number one game publisher in the world, with gamers spending $465 million dollars on Microsoft titles just last month (beating every publisher by over $100 million).

dveio510d ago

I'm getting tired making fun of anything.

But ... I mean, I don't really know what to say anymore.

How can these earnings reports & calls be allowed to aaalways be so shallow in data when it comes to Xbox?

It's become somewhat of a running gag.

• Again no operating profit/loss numbers
• Noone knows what "+30% PC GP" means
• Noone knows what "quarter record GP revenue" is
• Noone knows the actual GP subscriptions
• Noone knows X|S shipment/sellthrough

But yeah, sure, Microsoft was the No. 1 games publisher in December. Just like ABK was before.

Who would have thought. And that's almost everything we know.

PhillyDonJawn510d ago

Sound more like a comprehension issue honestly.

anast509d ago
