Exclusive wise the Xbox has the edge for now. But if you are looking into having a good gaming entertaiment, you can't go wrong with either

star_lancer3845d ago (Edited 3845d ago )

Exactly right, you can't go wrong with either. Currently, Xbox One is in a period of high profile exclusives, while PS4's exclusive offerings aren't as well known outside these circles. Earlier this year it was the opposite, as Sony had big names while MS had smaller niche titles. This will likely go back and forth for a while.

I know there are a few reasonable people around here who can state their preference in a civil way, without resorting to insulting fans of the other console.

Talking UP your favorite console shows security and contentment. Talking DOWN a competing console shows insecurity and desperation.

Even a statement such as "I like Forza better than Driveclub" is civil because it doesn't insult the other game, it just expresses a reasonable opinion. There's nothing wrong with mentioning the competition & making comparisons as long as they are civil.

Unfortunately, there are too many people here who have nothing better to do than troll, lie, and insult.

Automatic793845d ago

Well said star_lancer I have both and play predominantly my Xbox One more. I find the article to be good at certain points and subjective while missing certain key things on both consoles. Overall I give the edge to Xbox One with Forza 6,Rare Replay( I play with my family great family games), Halo 5, Gears of War, TombRaider, Multiplats like COD, Fallout 4 and EA access for the just announced early access to Battlefront the Xbox One has me more engaged especially, with New Experience and Back Compatible launching Today. I know Sony will offer the games I play at some point but at the moment it has not captured in my opinion what made PS3 magic. 2016 looks strong for both and I plan on playing both. Time will tell which has the better offerings for 2016. The Edge goes to Xbox One.

bleedsoe9mm3845d ago

have you seen the games xb1 has announced for next year , its insane . not that i'd want to miss uncharted in march , the only answer is you bargin hunt like a sob and buy both .

NewMonday3845d ago (Edited 3845d ago )

for new buyers the exclusives from the 1st year still count, they didn't disappear or go multi-platform(at least for the PS4), so PS4 has a much bigger exclusive library, and the only exclusives scoring over 90 on Metacritic, Bloodborn and the Last of Us, with Uncharted collection the PS4 has 3 great TPShooter games to go alongside the diversity of it's library that includes hits like inFAMOUS Second Son, Until Dawn and the best selling exclusive racer DrivClub.

Xbox exclusives mostly sell bad on the X1, they just don't seem to resonate with gamers, so they are even less likely to attract a buyer to the console.

as for future exclusives the PS4 holds even a bigger edge, No Mans Sky, Uncharted 4, Horozon, NiOh, Nier2, Street Fighter 5, Gravity Rush, new King of Fighters..etc

and the PS4 hardware is showing it's power with multi-platform games as developers stop holding back, Fallout 4 is broken on X1 and BO3 runs better on PS4, so that will be a big point to consider.

Kingthrash3603845d ago (Edited 3845d ago )

@ star
So true. We should talk only in facts instead of opinion or preference. But that will never happen. So I'll drop facts in my list..all can be found on wiki
Xbox
exclusive =40
MS (1st party) exclusive =9
Timed exclusive= 76/27
Mulitiplat/TBA= 342/2
Playable (available now to buy and play)= 272
Total=495
Playstation 4 games
Exclusive =90
Sony (1st party)exclusive =97
Console exclusive= 166
Timed=21
Multiplat 440
Total=814 (56 free to play)
List does not include TBA games or total playable games for some reason but I checked the ps store and it's at 604
We all know ps4 has the most 3rd party support the overall best performance from 3rd party games the most 1080p games.
Xbox has the most updates and the better BC
Playstation has the most expensive but more BC games.

These are only facts not opinions.
I'd like to add tho seeing these number especially exclusives I was surprised about how staggering the numbers are..many say xbox has all the games all the exclusives but...9? Really? 9 to 97 that's like 9 times more..smh
But even still I enjoy both consoles and you can't go wrong with what you pick. This is a great generation of consoles and either way you will enjoy gameing. That's my opinion in total.

Timbo813845d ago

@star_lancer It speaks volumes as to the basement dwelling, neck beard fanboys with how many disagrees you have. How dare you insinuate that there can be greatness in more than one console. For me, I consider myself a true gamer - I own an XBone, a PS4 and a Wii U. Why? Because I enjoying gaming itself, not whinning and bitching about which console has better resolution, FPS, etc.

I find myself playing my xbox more lately because more of my friends are on XBL, and I'm even fortunate enough to have an Elitle controller (so sick, BTW).

It truly saddens me that people get their underoos in a bunch over a system(s) they didn't make, have no claim to fame for its abilities and have little to no bearing on its success. If you can't afford or don't want both, that's OK - why hate on an inanimate object?

NewMonday3845d ago

@Timbo81

If people want a console they buy it, the PS4 wasn't handed out on welfare voucher lines, most gamers buy the PS4s and they buy lot's of games, if PS4 owners want an XB1 they can just got out and buy one.

the XBone simply doesn't sell well, and there is no positive way to go about explaining why that happens, and when we do try to explain it some people get upset and hurt.

but truth is, to the general gamer public the X1 and it's games are not interesting, I'm more interested in what the NX turns out to be, more interested in PSVR, more interested in upgrading my PC, and by the time I finally have time to be interested in XBox the "exclusives" would've become multi-platform.

Dinkis3845d ago

@Newmondy"Fallout 4 is broken on X1" far from it. Very playable. I'm 30 hours so..so much trolling and misinformation from you its just sickening

NewMonday3845d ago (Edited 3845d ago )

@Dinkis

zero framrate and stuttering is from DF, go complain in their comment section

Timbo813844d ago

@NewMonday while the systems aren't handed out in a welfare line, I fail to accept or truly believe that a true gamer wouldn't want both - they are both excellent in their own right. Most people have one or the other and that's cool - but to worship it and feel the need to defend your choice like it was you child ... Sad.

I'm not sure the Xbox "doesn't sell well" - I'd consider it a good seller. Just not nearly as well as the PS4, obviously. It's total installed base is more than decent. As to why ... Piss poor launch at the original E3 presentation, (initially) forced Kinect when few wanted it and higher price. I think I hav explained it, no?

To your last point, maybe you are right - the general gaming public (read: casual) might not be interested in Xbox one exclusives. Maybe, though most great games are a little "hardcore" for the casual crowd. Unless it's Nintendo - they appeal to both (well, they did ...). Love my Wii U and hope the NX amazes and surprises many. What a great time to be a gamer (IMO)

NewMonday3844d ago

@Timbo81

it's actually the hardcore gamers driving the PS4 success

If theres one thing I can say with certainty its this "If you love JRPGs (Disgaea or Persona) go Ps4" aside from that its all preference. I have both and play mostly on my Ps4 but I've fallen back in love with Halo Multiplayer since it came out and Tomb Raider... well I'll get to that after Fallout haha. But yeah the pendulum swings on exclusives. This season its definitely Xbox with Halo and Tomb Raider while early next year its Ps4 with Street Fighter V and Uncharted and so on and so on.

asadachi3845d ago

Doesn't seem that way to me, what exclusives does MS have more of that PS4 doesn't?

CartBlanche3845d ago (Edited 3845d ago )

Can you define "for now" do you mean this week, this hour, this second, or something more realistic like since both consoles were released?

If this Wikipedia page is to be believed, just counting Console exclusives...
https://en.wikipedia.org/wi...

PS4 has 21 Exclusives.
XBox One has 13 Exclusives.

Now if you go onto Metacritic and compared the average scores of the exclusives for each platform and look at the top 10 and top 20 and count how many exclusive there are, you'll find that...
PS4 has 4 in the top 10. Namely, Last of Us Remastered, Journey, Bloodborne and flower.
Xbox has 0 exclusives in the top 10
Everything else in the top 10 are multi-plats.
All the PS4 exclusive in the top 10 are rated in the 90s.
Even if you discount the 3 remasters, PS4 still has 100% more exclusives in the top 10 just with Bloodborne ;).

PS4 has 5 in the top 20, the same as the top 10 plus ZEN Pinball 2: Star Wars Rebels
Xbox has 2 exclusives in the top 20, namely Forza 6 and Rise of the Tomb Raider.
Everything else in the top 20 are multi-plats.
ZEN Pinball 2: Star Wars Rebels is rated 88,
Forza 6 is rated 87, Rise of the Tomb Raider is rated 86.

So even the most highly scored Xbox One exclusive, both AAA titles supposedly, don't surpass a non-AAA title like ZEN Pinball 2: Star Wars Rebels.

So I'm really not sure where this "edge" you speak of exists. All the facts appear to point to the opposite of what you are saying.

Not one of these again.

If you prefer the Xbox One's lineup of games and features get that. If you prefer the PS4's lineup of games and features get that. If you can afford both and have the time to play both then get both. You can get plenty of worthwhile mileage from either.

However, might as well leave my thoughts, which should be obvious to those on this site:

- PS4 has more games currently
- PS4 has a more diverse lineup of games overall
- PS4 has way, way more upcoming games in 2016 with greater diversity
- PS4 has better rated games overall
- PS4 offers the option to experience a whole new way of playing games coming next year.

That's just better prospects to be honest. And it has the global market by the balls, with over 50% of the market share and growing so the game support will keep on getting better and better going forward.
--------

Thanks for the agrees and support guys. It's good to see facts and logic not going over most folks' heads. Well some heads, but those heads are stubborn heads :D

@ Yarbie1000

Cool, that's fine. Except mine wasn't an opinion. It was my "thoughts" based on what is true. Everything I said about PS4 is true and are established facts at this point. I also never said that Xbox One DOESN'T have a diverse lineup of games, but that PS4 has a MORE diverse lineup and there is nothing wrong with admitting that, nor is that an opinion. It's measurable. It's levels of content measured against type of content. And PSVR games will be the nail in the coffin of that argument since most of these will be brand new kinds of experiences made specifically for the hardware, and you're not going to get those on XB1 unfortunately.

@ Tobsesan

That is not nearly a truly representative list for both consoles.
We could be here all day making a true list.

ApocalypseShadow3845d ago

Pretty much this.nothing else needs to be said....

Well,I'm going have to say it.I lean towards the ps4. And if you ask me what would I do with another extra $300-$350?

It's going towards PSVR. Sony is giving me a reason to NOT get an Xbox one with that extra money. What reason is Microsoft giving me to not get a ps4 with extra money?

There isn't one.maybe remedy with quantum break as I like them as a developer and miss them on PlayStation. But it's not a $300-$350 reason to pick up the system for one game.

kenwonobi3845d ago

It's Virtual Reality for me too. I was gonna get a Xbox with that money but I gotta put some aside for VR now. Also bubble for DigitalRaptor and yourself for VR reference.

3845d ago
GordonKnight3845d ago

Halo 5 was the only reason I needed to purchased the X1. Now, I have new Tomb Raider game as well.

As for saving my money, it's not the PSVR, but the NX. Can't wait to see what the Big N has for it's next gen consoles.

In the end every TV should have a Sony, MS, & Nintendo console hooked up to it.

yarbie10003845d ago

I respect your thoughts. I respectfully hold a different opinion.

PS4 has more games. More exclusives period.
XBO has more games I want to play & enjoy

PS4 has a diverse lineup.
XBO has a diverse lineup as well. Horizon, Forza, Halo, Gears, Scalebound, crackdown, cuphead, Fable, Quantum Break, Project Spark, Recore, Rare replay, Sea of Thieves, Sunset Overdrive etc.

XBO has BC
XBO has more features added on a consistent basis.
I prefer the XBO controller
I prefer XBL

Both are appealing to different people. I prefer XBO. Others prefer PS4. I'm still looking forward to Wild, and Horizon. We should be able to leave it at that without flaming wars.

dekke3845d ago

only xbox game what i want to play is new Tomb Raider ..and that comes to ps4 next year..and also to PC Q1 so i just migth get it on PC...sure those games are good what u listed but not my style..what comes to xbox BC ...i had original ps3 60gb and never played any ps2 games..or i think i tried FFXII on it but thats all ...and to consoles features ..i mean both sux ass...back then u just needed to put disk/casette in and play... now ppl want all useless stuffs on consoles and they probably wont even use those features its just "cool" to have em...but have a nais gaming day =) and sry for my bad english ^^

chikane3845d ago (Edited 3845d ago )

@yarbie1000

Funny how you wrote down all the games that make the xbox lineup diverse but forget to write down all the Japanese ps4 exclusives games like SO5 SF5 and so many more and all the 1st party games coming only to ps4 If you really wanna talk about diverse the xbox one is not even on the same ball park as the ps4.

Kill Strain
Project Setsuna
What Remains of Edith Finch
Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness
Final Fantasy 7 Remake
Shenmue 3
Drawn to Death
The Tomorrow Children
The Witness
Rime
Dreams
Street Fighter 5
No Man’s Sky
Ratchet and Clank
Horizon Zero Dawn
The Last Guardian
Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End
Gran Tursimo 7

Just to name a few .. just a few I'm sure there are more..

mocaak3845d ago

Xbox One, horizon? You mean Forza Horizon?

Rookie_Monster3845d ago (Edited 3845d ago )

Great minds think alike, Yarbie.. ;D

I felt the same too in terms of both consoles.

For me I haven't even touch my PS4 since Finishing Bloodborne in mid April. The four trump cards MS has over Sony this year is IMO better AAA exclusives, BC, Elite controller option and Windows 10 1080p 60 fps streaming. Before this summer, I got most of the third party titles that are not on PC on PS4 but with the superb streaming of XB1 to my laptop, I play all my games, like 75% of the time now, streaming them to my Laptop and all third party titles thus are mostly for XB1 now regardless if the PS4 versions are higher res.

So for me, on console...Xb1 is my goto console right now. Having said that, next year could change with UC4 and other Sony AAA hitters getting into the scene. And also looking forward of attending the PSX in SAN francisco next month. Exciting time to be a gamer regardless of which console your like better.

Tobsesan3845d ago

@chikane
What he was talking about is that xbox 2016 is deverse.

Upcoming Xbox One 1. Party Games for 2016:

Halo Wars (RTS)
Gears Of War 4 (3. Person Shooter)
Sea of Thieves (MMORPG)
Crackdown 3 (Open World Action-Adventure)

This is a true list and please dont try to spin it around.

Automatic793844d ago

@Chikane

I hate list wars and even more people downplaying the competition but not fair to hype one when the others exclusives look great.

Xbox One will have

The Solus Project
Fable Legends
Gigantic
KillerInstinct Season 3
Below
Tacoma
Superhot
Inside
Cuphead
So Happy Few
Skylines
DayZ
ION
Bloodstained
Quantum Break

Halo Wars
Gears 4
Forza Horizon 3 (not announce yet)

http://www.bilder-upload.eu...

This list shows which console has more diversity.

And yes, it's old but if I had an updated list it would only prove my point and further my point even more since a lot of PS4 exclusives have been announced since it was made. PlayStation has the most diversity and always has.

Tobsesan3845d ago (Edited 3845d ago )

@BadBoyC

Only because Xbox doesnt have Retail releases for this games they are exclusive to Playstation? Also i cant see 2013 on that list, why? How many games of that "diverse" ps4 lineup would you actually play? How many are AAA? That has to be the question. But you have a point, they have the most games.

3845d ago
InTheLab3845d ago

Just gonna throw this out there...

I go to play a few games I downloaded right before Live was shut down last Xmas. Can't play those games until it's back up.

I go to install Black ops 3 on the X1 and after 5min it stops at 5% and says the disc can't be installed because it's dirty. It's brand new....and a Blu ray...

I have yet to have any such problems with my ps4 and I've had it a year longer.

PhucSeeker3845d ago (Edited 3845d ago )

Played CoD blops 3 beta on both console and Xbone always gave me lower ping than the Ps4's. And i have lots of friends prefer xbox live too when it come to consoles. And we have some pretty crappy internet connections.

Bottom line is that if your internet connection is rubbish (3mbps-10mbps) and you want a console to play multiplayer games nicely, you can't go wrong with the Xbone.

gangsta_red3845d ago

Well said Yarbie.

People keep saying PS4 has more diversity only because it has a lot more support from Japan, but the X1 has just as much diversity when it comes to games too.

MS knows they are not getting the JRPG support so they are making up for it by offering more MMO's and Moba type games. That seems like a good trade off and fills in that diversity check mark people like to throw out there.

Digital likes to throw out numbers as if they relate to all gamers but it's wrong to do so. Out of those 500 games he likes to promote hard, how many are actually worth playing? How many are old PC ports? Can he even name 20 off the top of his head without heading to google and copying and pasting some sales pitch here? Doubt it. I know it's all subjective but so is his pitch.

Also MS has a lot more coming out in 2016, where Digital says Sony has more is dumbfounding with no proof, facts or logic, it's basically overselling a brand he defends so religiously.

The support for games on Xbox will also continue to grow as MS is pushing gaming in new territories, bridging with PC players and concentrating on games instead of peripherals.

I can agree with one thing Digital said, it's all about preference. In my case it's good I own both and not just one that way I can experience what both has to offer and not have to always champion one brand.

DigitalRaptor3844d ago

@ Gangsta_red

All your friends, they made calm and respectable comments about their preferences. Why get salty and attempt to make my post seem nebulous whilst providing no proof of your own, then to downplay "hundreds" of games because you don't like facts. I'm sure PS4's upcoming VR games lineup makes you uncomfortable you for this very reason, and of course you will find it easy to downplay VR games based on your comment history. You know that it will add to the PS4's diversity, wholesale.

Last time I said that PS4 has MORE diversity than the XB1 you misread and acted like I said "XB1 doesn't have ANY diversity". It just doesn't compute to you, despite all the lists that have been made that this is the truth. When people make lists you will have the excuse of "not everyone will like all those games". When people don't make lists (even though you've seen and argued them) you will say that I have no proof. The proof has been validated multiple times, and it's time to admit you don't like facts that lean against your console of choice.

Wiki and Google are your friends, and the PS4 vs. XB1 listwars is your friend too because PS4 always wins those and that's when the excuses start flying. Stop trying to expose me with nothing to provide, and be more like your Xbox friends on here and say what you prefer rather than dodging facts.

Yes, I can name 20 games off the top of my head, because I know what games I'm looking forward to. It's not hard to remember games, as a gamer.

And nice try with that disingenuous veil again. If you owned both, then you would have absolutely no reason to be as defensive as you are for Xbox, whilst celebrating with Xbox fanboys/trolls, whilst focusing only on Sony dudes to EVER argue with. You wouldn't need to defend Phil Spencer's parity clause cause you'd play the games on PS4. You wouldn't find a reason to disagree with a console having way more games, because you would be able to play them, rather than be offended that what I'm saying is true. You wouldn't need to downplay the resolution-gate business because you would be able to play the noticeably technologically superior versions on your PS4. What were you doing in June? Downplaying Sony's historic E3 megatons.

We've seen you conclude that you're going to play PS4 console exclusives on your PC, that aren't coming to XB1, whilst not doing vice versa for XB1. We've seen the façade you show by your downplaying PS4 exclusive JRPGs in a PS4 vs. XB1 listwar, whilst congratulating Sony on their strong JRPG lineup not long after. List goes on. I'm still waiting for that proof that you own a PS4, that you owned a PS3, that you played TLOU etc.
--------

"MMO's and Moba" a trade off against JRPGs? Way to kid yourself. PS4 has some of those to itself too, and some of those you are talking about such as Neverwinter are coming to PS4. You want to compare the handful of "MMO's and Moba" games against the landslide of Japanese games that aren't even all RPGs. See you don't even know what you're talking about. You're just throwing an empty defence out there. Weak.
-------

"bridging with PC players and concentrating on games instead of peripherals. "

And the SALT... is real. VR = games. You were not long ago commending Microsoft for trying to innovate and offer something new with Kinect (a peripheral), and that you’d prefer that approach to the other company not trying. Wow, You really have no winning arguments here. My "pitch" is fact. Yours is a really defensive and bitter blank slate that offers nothing but spin for obvious reasons.

gangsta_red3844d ago

You really need to understand and learn the term "salt" and know where to apply it if you are just going to be throwing it out there like that.

I see I struck a nerve with you since this comment is nothing but a rant about your personal problems.

"Yours is a really defensive and bitter blank slate that offers nothing but spin for obvious reasons."

A whole comment worth of bitterness, defense and off topic remarks and then you close it with that...epic hilariousness.

DigitalRaptor3839d ago (Edited 3839d ago )

This is incredible Gangsta. I exposed the bitterness in the way in which YOU became personal about what I said that personally annoys you. The proof is in your false accusations about my facts being things I made up, because you can't handle the truth. You went off topic, when I was on topic. And STILL you cannot seem to prove me wrong.

So what happened? When I bring up things that you always & continually without fail refuse to prove or cannot even begin to try... like your hypocrisy levels and your laughable pretence about owning a PS4, you simply refuse to acknowledge anything. It's obvious why.

So you lost this one Gangsta. Cause you know that if you can't prove what I'm saying, you might as well turn this round on me. I mean I'm here just.... shrugging like this guy: http://www.gifwave.com/medi... - I mean do you forfeit the argument? By saying nothing, you said everything. It would be fair to prove my points wrong with facts if you're going to call me out BEFORE I call you out, and prove to me you own a PS4 - and then you should find room to laugh. ;)

There are PROs and CONs on both.

Honestly, you can't go wrong whichever you buy first. I would recommend them both because they both have games I want to play.

It gets even better in the long term.

Drown in all the games....

Software_Lover3845d ago

People (on here) say they can't afford both.

But their very next sentence is....

"I will buy PSVR day one!!!"
or
"Man this new Xbox Elite controller is great and my Kinect 2.0 is awesome"
or
"I have 2 600+ video cards in my high end PC"

Fro_xoxo3845d ago

lol that's actually funny.

People say one thing, but what they actually do is what counts.

Why o why3845d ago (Edited 3845d ago )

I can understand that.

2 consoles is now 2 subs, 2 sets of peripherals, more space and for some, a whole heap of extra games. Also people may not want that additional console especially if they're basically the same. Just because you fund one console over the value of buying another doesn't make it some kinda illogical behaviour to state it. Comparing the desire for vr or glass which are additions as opposed to a new console isn't a fair comparison

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

dveio23d ago

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Jingsing23d ago

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Tanktopmaster9223d ago

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit23d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing23d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster9223d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse

When does this end? Its killing everyone. Consoles and PC. And for what? AI? The benefits of AI are completely outweighed by the negatives. And the government should have never allowed one company to buy up all the RAM.

Lexreborn226d ago

This kind of proves this is an after thought product, most products like this are in r&d 5 years before they start mass producing. So they typically have the cost of components and things worked out long before assembly starts.

This is an assumption still, but I wouldn’t be surprised if project helix is similar to Scalebound, perfect dark and sod3. They had an idea but no actual execution other than concept stage. Being impacted by the ram shortage likely would also put this device 3-4 years out.

I’m not even sure MS has that endurance with Xbox yet

We're at a point that Samsung wont even provide their own phone department ram because they can sell it at higher prices to 3rd parties (AI). Its more profitable to sell the ram than make their own devices with it.

You think because R&D starts 5 years ago the 3rd party component manufacturers will honour that price? They'll sell it to whomever is paying the most today, not some gentlemens agreement they made years ago. AI farms will buy more volume at higher prices than any console manufacturer will. It'll be the same for Playstation.

Contractual agreements are not the same as “gentlemen” agreements. If you think that they work with their distributors a month before production then their entire business model is trash. They work with companies like nvidia constantly for building the graphics cards they need. They work with companies that build motherboards years in advance. This is what proper business planning does.

They are not buying components on a whim like a consumer. So again, considering the ram isn’t a singular module and is integrated into the motherboard I highly doubt they wouldn’t have a final schematic that they are supposed to be building around.

If they are delaying production another 3 years then it’s obvious again this is an after though project and is just trying to be responsive to their bad execution they had the last 14 years.

It also isn’t far fetched to use their failure to produce first party titles the last 7 years including the highly anticipated games I mentioned all being cancelled. That they would continue to you know… lie

You don't really know how this works huh?

Helix is going to be stupidly expensive

Instead of leaning into smarter upscaling techniques they're brute forcing hardware that will cost them dearly and it remains to be seen if it's genuinely going to provide a meaningful differential

I know in the oc.doace people like to brag about not using frame gen or dlss to get to high on a game but for the majority of players they happily use those technologies without a second thought

That's going to be ps6 vs Helix

Eonjay25d ago

Yeah with FSR 5 they should be able to offer a much cheaper version of Helix.

Eonjay25d ago

While this does seem to be the case, I am encouraged by the statement from Microsoft about wanting to provide affordable options. If this means a Series S style Helix, at least there will be something affordable being offered.

XBManiac25d ago

Series S is what has killed Xbox Series so... Will they dare?

It's called systematic inflationary. Yes we get it Microsoft, keep raising in the name ofall kinds of stuffs

pwnmaster300025d ago

Honestly if there was thing I learned from this generation is that new consoles arnt day one anymore.
I can wait 1-3 years.

DarXyde25d ago

Another important lesson from this generation: while Nintendo showed us that prices don't necessarily need to ever drop, we've now learned that waiting 1-3 years does carry some risk that prices increase. This generation is just bizarre in all the wrong ways.

LucasRuinedChildhood25d ago (Edited 25d ago )

The factors are largely external. Covid and Russia-Ukraine war causing inflation led to the first price increase in 2022.

Then we get Trump's tariffs increasing hardware prices, AI boom causing a RAM crisis, war on Iran causing a worldwide fuel crisis which impacts the cost of everything.

Gaming doesn't exist in a vacuum. The last few years have been a shitshow and lot of it was definitely avoidable.

DarXyde25d ago

LucasRuinedChildhood,

For sure. No disagreement on the external factors doing a lot of this. Where I have to gently push back however is on two fronts:

1. The pandemic definitely caused some issues: asynchronous development was a big issue and really complicated timelines and affected game quality. At the same time, when it comes to price hikes, it's really difficult to know what was genuine necessity and what was taking consumers for a ride. The pandemic brought about "stag-flation" which was increasing prices and stagnant wages, which was a problem caused by supply chain constraints. There was also "Greed-flation", where companies that were slightly affected or had no issues took advantage of the situation and squeezed everyone citing supply chain issues when there were none.

2. It's definitely true that the tariffs, AI boom, and RAM crisis were all things enabled by tech broligarchs throwing money at this caricature of a world leader, one of them being Satya Nadella. I don't think Sony and Nintendo have contributed much to this problem if at all, but Microsoft's Nadella I feel was instrumental in causing every one of those issues. Microsoft as a company contributed to both candidates (though they gave Harris 4x as much if I recall), but Nadella was all in on letting AI run wild. He paid for unregulated AI, and got a war that's not a war (even though Trump called it that at least five times on television) that screwed up helium access. So for me, I feel that one of the players in the gaming industry is a key architect of these issues, and for that reason I struggle a bit to think of it as "external".

A good start would be to release games to go with the console. My Xbox Series X has gathered dust virtually from launch. My advice would be to ditch a next console and release games on PC, PlayStation and Switch. Another idea would be a hybrid console based on Xbox Series X tech and go the same route as Nintendo. Another idea would be to pull out of gaming altogether. Plenty of options there.

Reaper22_24d ago

Why would they pull out? They have the momentum. Sony has been getting nothing but bad news lately.
