Faster hard drives boost Xbox One Fallout 4 performance

Digital Foundry:
Yesterday we reported on Fallout 4 console performance, finding that both PS4 and Xbox One target 1080p30 gameplay - with somewhat variable results. Both versions have issues maintaining their frame-rate targets, but it's the Xbox One version that has a tangible disadvantage - there's a 'macro-stutter' issue that seems to be related to the game's background streaming technology. Entering new areas can see second-long pauses, and even switching weapons sometimes causes problems.

Bethesda really need to sort this out. This stutter issue sounds like its really annoying.

frostypants3838d ago (Edited 3838d ago )

Betting it's either a result of trying to leverage that ESRAM poorly, or not leveraging it at all.

sammarshall1023838d ago

So a patch should fix the stuttering issue, good to know

RedCloud883838d ago

I commented on the digital foundry link yesterday wondering if the hybrid drive of the elite could fix the issues, all I got was a bunch of disagrees. Now it turns out a better drive does indeed improve performance. So disagree all you want, I was right lol

UnHoly_One3838d ago

I suggested the same thing about using an external drive and wondering why they didn't test that, then today posted that I played 4 hours last night and didn't see a single framerate drop and got disagrees for that as well.

Seems it is a loading issue afterall.

Also, I noticed my load times in and out of buildings is pretty speedy. Not as long as last gen's Bethesda games for sure.

conanlifts3837d ago

Anyone who owns an xbox one and runs an external drive knows first hand that it makes a huge difference. Haters gonna hate regardless.

JasonKCK3837d ago

You will lose bubbles and get many disagrees here if you use logic that some people aren't ready to hear.

KonaSquid3838d ago

Seems people don't like the truth.

MasterCornholio3838d ago

Hmmm

Im guessing its something wrong with the engine that they are using. Not sure why it does that.

BallsEye3837d ago

@KonaSquid

Because he mentioned "The Holy Ps3"
slap 360 there instead and you'll get enough bubbles up to cover you for next decade.

UltraNova3837d ago (Edited 3837d ago )

You really are becoming annoying...just drop the MS diehard attitude for a few minutes pal, it will help you breath. I mean common dude who mentioned the 360 here??? SMH...

As for Skyrim and Ps3, I spent 100+ hrs on it and let me tell you between the crashes, freezes, stuttering and a pre-patch corrupt save file (7 hrs in..) I can say I spent those hrs worrying if the game was going to crash on me at anytime, especially when visiting towns!

'It was bad' doesn't even begin to cover it.

marioJP873837d ago (Edited 3837d ago )

Haha. The bubbles comment literally made me laugh.

They need to look at Morrowind and see what the progression should have been from there instead of the regression we got with the next 2 games. They weren’t horrible games but they could have been so much more.

-Foxtrot184d ago

Fallout 4 just felt too streamlined and accessible to me, the perk system was not as fun as it was in Fallout 3, not saying Fallout 3 didn't have issues but 4 just felt like a complete step back.

mastershredder184d ago

So the part where you just sold the same games for the last 10 years while you focused on 76 and merch, was not a reset from the "creative" aspect eh? How very Todd of you.

lukasmain184d ago

I bought Fallout 4 (I loved Fallout 3) at launch and I couldn't bring myself to finish it or even get close to finishing it. It was soooo damned boring and bland. I played on a very hard difficulty and I had hundreds of stimpaks. One of the only games I've played for a while and not ended up finishing it. I hated it. Just flat out hated it.
