Fallout 4: Keep Calm And Wait For The Day One Patch

Clipping Error discuss why players should wait until the Day One Patch for Fallout 4 is released, because there always is one, before they cast judgement on the game. The whole culture of products and retail has changed the way games are being made, and today a day one patch is normal and should be expected before any reviews even go up in all honest, however some people still think that games should be judged before thye're completely finished.

Most games have a day one patch. No big deal. Get her done then play some sweet sweet Fallout 4 baby

generic-user-name3837d ago

Didn't reviewers have access to the patch?

dirkdady3837d ago

Day one patch 1.01 has been already available for reviewers and will be available tomorrow for all clocking in at 500MB.

Highlife3837d ago

They really need a new engine and I'm not talking about graphics. They need something that performs so much better. Fallout is great but to excuse all of the bugs this developer puts out is a shame.

Palitera3837d ago (Edited 3837d ago )

Digital Foundry mentions that 1.01 doesn't solve s***.

Judging by how FO3 ran on PS3, I'm not expecting big improvements. Even taking performance in a high regards, I'll still buy it, because it is one of the few games that performance doesn't f up.

BeefCurtains3836d ago

There are MILLIONS of gamers doing an INFINITE amount of different things in the game. The developer simply cannot test every single outcome of every action in every single scenario for a game. That is why they gold, do the best they can, and patch what the gamers find later. Otherwise, the game would always be in testing and never release.

It's not possible to release a bug free game anymore. They are simply too big with many variables.

Day one patch already available.

ArchangelMike3838d ago (Edited 3838d ago )

The point is - games SHOULD be comepletely finished BEFORE they are shipped to retail - including Q&A, bug testing and all. Is there any other entertainment product where you are happy be sold an incomplete or defective product at full price? With a promise that it will be fixed once you buy it. Why have we accepted this practice from game developers and publishers?

Summons753837d ago

I agree. Patches after the release for bugs and stuff that slipped through q&a is one thing but to have just half the game unchecked is ridiculous especially since you can normal start a game while waiting for a patch now you can't access any online material which means most of the game now a days. So you're buying a full product to not play it at all.

livininsin3837d ago

Personally, I am happy they can patch... There was a time when any bugs that were there at launch were there for good.

I have gotten firmware updates for almost everything I own with a processor in it, my vehicle, television, receiver, bluray player, computer, printer, router, thermostat, home automation controller, phone, obviously software and even my refrigerator and I have to say, I will often get features that I didn't know I was going to get when I bought the product so I think the benefits far outweigh the cost.

"Is there any other entertainment product where you are happy be sold an incomplete or defective product at full price"

Sorry to burst you bubble but arent we always getting directors cut films and extended version blu rays after cinema release?

anyway gimme me a new patch everyday if it means i can play fallout now!!

not long for me to go whoop whoop

Darkwatchman3837d ago

Difference is not everyone will agree on a director's or extended cut being better. HOWEVER, no one can argue that less bugs and better framerate results in a better product.

Eldyraen3837d ago

The real difference is those area extra editions of a complete product.

If the original movie you bought had a habit of randomly stopping, screen tearing (or in movie cases skipping scenes or damaged footage) it would not be stood for. Games get away with being marginally broken/bugged (no matter how perfect glitches/bugs do exist) and sometimes are pretty messed up for launch before the game even ships knowing they have a patch to fix it.

I'm not saying patches are bad as any fixes are better than none but at launch it shouldn't require Gigs of patches with most new game releases. In some cases you download a last gen game worth of fixes before games even release.

bradfh3837d ago

it's your fault playing an unfinished game.

most games are unfinished when the games are shipped because they needed to be ready to sell when games are release. so you cant say the game is unfinished until it is out for public

SnotyTheRocket3837d ago

Games go gold a month (or less) before release. They keep working on it, until launch.

Forn3837d ago

Why should it 'go gold' when it's riddled with framerate issues and glitches? Patches have become a scapegoat, more often than ever before, to justify releasing a product that should have gone through more rigorous bug fixing before release.

Day 1 patch is already out. We're waiting on the Week 2 patch now.

OC_MurphysLaw3837d ago

Keep calm and wait for the day one patch. That sentiment is totally fine to be honest...and its even OK in my eyes if Bethesda is saying the same. However...if you are telling me to wait til its patched then I will tell you and Bethesda that I am waiting to buy until the patches are out and its confirmed "fixed" to an acceptable level.

fattyuk3837d ago

Great story, you can wait with the buying preowned gang!!

im running to the hills with my pipboy crew!!

OC_MurphysLaw3837d ago

I don't have to wait with the pre-owned crowd silly... I just don't have to give them money upfront or buy on day one. It's not like they are going to run out of copies of the game. It's readily available disc or digitally for when I decide to buy. I just know I can wait to let them patch it first and don't need to give them money to wait for that to happen.

sactownlawyer9163837d ago

I will preface my next statements with this: I love fallout have it preloaded and ready to go and very excited to play and have no regrets on my purchase. With that said based on the digital foundry footage if this game was not named fallout 4 I wonder what the review scores would be.

They need to look at Morrowind and see what the progression should have been from there instead of the regression we got with the next 2 games. They weren’t horrible games but they could have been so much more.

-Foxtrot183d ago

Fallout 4 just felt too streamlined and accessible to me, the perk system was not as fun as it was in Fallout 3, not saying Fallout 3 didn't have issues but 4 just felt like a complete step back.

mastershredder183d ago

So the part where you just sold the same games for the last 10 years while you focused on 76 and merch, was not a reset from the "creative" aspect eh? How very Todd of you.

lukasmain183d ago

I bought Fallout 4 (I loved Fallout 3) at launch and I couldn't bring myself to finish it or even get close to finishing it. It was soooo damned boring and bland. I played on a very hard difficulty and I had hundreds of stimpaks. One of the only games I've played for a while and not ended up finishing it. I hated it. Just flat out hated it.
