Equals for now, because they need to develop on both at the same time. They have to limit themself because of the 360. And most of the devs are not used to work on with PS3s, so i guess in another 1 or 2 years, they'll change their mind when they see that the PS3 beat 360 with only 1 hand.

PC's are suffereing a similar fate to sameitis. PC's get more horsepower and better graphics every second Tuesday, but fewer and fewer PC only games are coming out, so PCS360 games will all look the same. What developer is going to spend extra months making 3 versions all look different?

I tried to figure out that with my friend we checked their tech spec and we found they are almost equal with slight differences but what made each system better than other is the storage and the processor which what made the PS3 a stronger console ((bluray+ cell)) i mean what more the developers could ask for with media supports up to 50 gb dual layer BD ((500 gb according to pioneer)) and a powerful processor ((cell)) and thats what makes the PS3 a stronger console rather than that its the same as 360 .

I always hear of checking out MGS4 and Uncharted images to see the power of the PS3 (wait for it) but I honestly can not recall anyone here ever telling me to check out 360 images for the bomb diggity? What should I be looking for? Thanks!

the devs of rage are pointing a clear advantage that the ps3 has over the x360 and that's the blu-ray drive.

if you ask about the ps3 to insomniac they gonna say that the cell it's more powerful then the cpu of the x360; if you ask to EA they gonna say that the ps3 it's more powerful; if you ask valve they gonna say that the ps3 it's just a piece of crap that should desappear.

but me as a gamer i see more potential on the ps3 than on the x360 because of the blu-ray and i believe we haven't seen the full potential of the cell. but the x360 has the more advance online...

-- why i prefer the ps3? well because i can play my huge collection of games from the PS1 and ps2, plus it comes with a blu-ray player and it used for the games too. the online in my eyes it's not that bad, it let me play games online for free and sometimes on dedicated server, that means less lag... on top of that sony has a lot of studios and it is improving more and more the online aspect without charging me nothing.

know there is a difference in quality when it comes to games.multiplatform devs can defend their practice of making games for both as to not make the hardware maker upset.but ps3 owners know that it is the exclusives that are judged.

and judging by the exclusives being put out by microsoft and sony,we know who has better games and better graphics.it's not to say better games can't be made on 360.we just haven't SEEN it.

from motorstorm,GT5,heavenly sword,uncharted,metal gear,etc,there are no equals when it comes to lighting,onscreen objects,textures,HD sound,etc.

no game on 360 matches motorstorm.sega rally doesn't,the new baja doesn't,dirt doesn't,the new pure game won't.it just can't be matched.
GT5 has no equal.the cars look better than forza 2,it has better lighting,it has more cars on the road,there's just ....MORE.

but time and time again,we can clearly see games on ps3 like killzone that just aren't matched by 360.killzone has more objects,better lighting,smoke trails,explosions,characters,e tc.,than anything on 360.including gears of war.it may be fun,but gears is clearly being outclassed by killzone.

I been waiting for realism ever since they announced the next gen consoles and when 360 came out it did not offer what i was looking for. I then turned to ps3 which showed a clear example of what next gen games are going to look like. You can clearly see in the games how much more detail and animation there is just look at motorstorm and pacific rift it looks amazing. Look at gran turismo 5 how amazing that looks also the animation in heavenly sword and how realistic uncharted drakes fortune the animation is. Playstation 3 is the only system that can deliver realistic animation this generation 360 can only make games look next gen but they move just like last gen.

up to now the biggest thang 360 had were its development tools (and thats important so developers have it easier to code and push games out faster).

Now games are getting bigger..

360 developers are forced to use crappy compression techniques (just to keep games on one disk), which ultimately yield inferior audio fidelity and graphics (ask any developer)and they dont wanna incur the additional expense of multidisk games for the 360 (MS pulling the old Big N cartride royality trick)

MS has already conceded on its hardware (bigger drives which soon will be mandatory) and Live Titles (bigger file size)and will drop the extra cost for games with multiple disks

no knocking the 360 since I like a lot of the games, just its lifetime will be cut short

The hardware in these consoles is not the same. Equals? lol, just the current skill level of devs, time and resources produce simular results.

John Carmack and others have said what the differences are(not talking about disc format).

Regardless of which platform has and edge, and indeed, if there IS one, asking a multi plat developer such a question is sure to elicit this response. We all know how quickly the internet gobbles up any slight news of this ilk, so saying anything other than 'theres no difference' is a sure way of losing some kudos with one 'side' or another.

There are a few devs who don't care, for sure, but most of them play safe politics and would keep any real thoughts to themselves.

Tordavis, I don't think going around and asking multiplatform companies if one system is more powerful or not is really going to answer anything.

For one their goal is to try and make multiplatform games equal. A good example is like Burnout Paradise. They lead on the PS3, went on about how the PS3 is great this and that. But I'm sure their goal was to not overdo it and make the 360 version just as good.

We won't really see a developer who develops for both PS3 and 360 outright say "We will make this version completely superior to this version." Why? Because they will alienate either Sony or MS, or the consumers who buy either versions. The only thing we've seen so far is "exclusive DLC" which is more of a struck deal and not a technical advantage.

Granted there are some developers who aren't afraid to speak outright what they think. Like Carmack, who already says they are limited by the DVD9, so they have to compress some things. And even goes on to say that the PS3 has theoretically more peek power. But of course he prefers working with the 360 because of the dev tools, and support from MS. Thus making developement easier.

I don't trust a fanboy when he says "Omg tH3 PS3 iS th3 MoSt PoWeRfUl!"

But I will trust Carmack. So far in this whole "console war" he's the only multiplatform developer that is telling us like it is. But it's nothing that we all haven't known before, he just confirms it for us.

And lastly, I don't think we'll see multiplatform games ever being vastly different for a very long time. The only games we'll see push the hardware, are going to be 1st party exclusives and some 3rd party exclusives.

But of course, this is just my opinion. I hope developers everywhere, whether multiplatform or 1st party, continue to push the 360 and PS3 together. Because if they do that, the real winners are the gamers.

I own all three next gen platforms and i would have to say the ps3 is the best and most powerful No game looks as good as mgs4 and uncharted! I will say that my fav online game is GOW xbox 360 of course but yeah ps3 game's do look better and are more powerful! Also look at killzone 2 no game looks that good on the 360! Name one game

Sorry, but all of these fluff pieces sound to me like increasing desperation from the 360 camp. It says an awful lot when someone's no longer boasting "We're the best!", but rather "We're just as good as they are...no really!"

For now they do but the exclusives speak for themselves and the PS3 is making giant jumps compared to the 360.
360 so far has only been making leaps in graphics and Sony is making jumps.
Multiplatform games can't really be judged because developers want all gamers to get the same experience w/ their console.
The people that you need to talk to is a person like John Carmack, Ted Price, etc.
Both consoles are great but to really judge a console you need to look at the exclusives being mad for only one console that's how you can tell you the difference.

Hardware wise the 360 and PS3 are the same year model. The Ps3 was originally scheduled to release spring 2006, but was delayed because of blu-ray diode shortages and poor chip yields of the Cell processor.

I am a fanboy because why? because I support a more powerful system? and i dislike 360? I liked the xbox when it came out and i thought it had a lot of potential I enjoyed kotor 1 and 2, fable, doom 3 and halo 2. Then 360 came out with perfect dark and call of duty 2 and I went from playing doom 3 to perfect dark and call of duty 2 and it was not really a step up of graphics and animation at all. I look forward to animation in video games I think its very important and ps3 is the first system to show me realistic animation. Perhaps you do not care about realistic animation then i can understand your view but animation is part of graphics. The reason why new consoles come out is because of better graphics and yeah 360 does deliver next gen graphics but only half of what it was suppose to do.

Playstation 3 has only been out for 1 year and 9 months and slowly more exclusives showing the systems true potential are coming out. With each exclusive the gap becomes even bigger between 360 and ps3 For example take a look at the 5 minute footage of infamous on G4. Games like that is what shows the diffrence and what every game should of looked like peoples jaws will drop and there is silence.

is that a lot of multiplatform games on both 360/ps3 end up being the same or a tad better on 360, whatever the reasons why are not to be taken as an issue, it's mostly cause of the developers.

the developers say they are equals because they are working on a game for both systems. so techniqually the game should be the same on both systems thus they are equals. imagine this. microsoft lets you to write a story on 9 pages of paper while sony lets you use 50 pages of paper. now you have to write the same story on each set of pages so the microsoft story has 9 pages and the sony story has 9 pages that sounds pretty equal to me. this question can only be targeted at people who have developed exclusively on both the ps3 and 360 and on a multiplatform. developers that only produce exclusively will be biased and multiplatform developers write the same thing for both so for them they are the same...but no one knows of a company who has developed exclusively for both the ps3 and 360 and also on multiplatform so why are these articles published?

...They devs are always talking about multiplats, so what they were basically saying was that the PS3 and 360 can have equal multiplat released games now... but if you're talking about making a maxed-out game on one versus the other console and tricking it's graphics like a pimped-out ride, I think that the answer would've been different.

But nobody but Sony is going to spend the time and money to make that evident on exclusive titles. Killzone has been in development for almost four years. By the time it releases, the next generation will be a year or two out. Companies will not put that kind of money and effort in on something that could possibly fail. Having a system that is easier to develop for makes more sense. It's cheaper and it's better to be able to make several games over the course of 5 years, than one.

This gen hasn't been the best for games, last gen consoles are still out there and now there's been talk of the PS6 and Xbox Two for a year or so. Many games this gen will be ported to next gen and the cycle will continue. The re-release of the Neo Geo AES+, games on cartridge for £70 ($95), gaming is going back in time. Gaming has gone pricing mad with the high cost of games, consoles and controllers. The men and women at the top are clueless.

It’s always interesting to hear behind-the-scenes stories like this, especially involving veterans like Shuhei Yoshida and leadership figures like Jim Ryan. That said, there are usually multiple sides to decisions at that level. It could be less about not “listening” and more about differences in long-term vision for PlayStation. If true, and I'm inclined to believe it is, it goes to show that Sony lost their way when they became more western/didn't respect the PlayStation origin story. I miss the first three generations of PlayStation. The way they turned PS3 around, we knew they meant business. We were all worried for a bit there around launch. Eventually from 2008 they started shifting slowly. But since Yoshida was fired, it's never been the same. Still enjoy my PS5 daily. I got a backlog dating back to PS2 lol So I'm fine but new games aren't as appealing anymore.

It seems like we were thrown on to the worst timeline possible where everything is too expensive and the wrong people were put in positions that makes the world a shitty place. We could have had Shu as the head of PS but we got the shitty alternative. Same goes for everyone in power around the world. Doesn’t matter the company or country the majority of us got the shitty picks and the world is declining like never before. I do think PS can come out of this because of their studios, talent and IP but they need someone more in touch with gamers leading things like Shu was. They’re still the best place for console gaming imo but it could be much better than it is especially without the massive live service failures. The rest of the world I have a lot less hope for right now. Hopefully the pendulum swings back towards the good ole days but I’m preparing for the worst.

seems legit, the business man, fires the one who has ideas to move the business forward.

Jim Ryan is the reason why we are entering year 6 since the PS5 launch and many of us don't feel like the PS5 has gotten started as yet.
