Concerning the AJ Tilley Developer / Publisher Split

Serena Nelson writes: "In response to a lot of confusion regarding AJ Tilley's decision to split his company into two entities they released a more detailed list of what to expect with this change. And, honestly, I'm as confused about why they did this as I was when I first heard the news. I fully understand that they wanted to make one arm as the publisher and another as the developer. After all, it's not unheard of for a company to do this. Hell, I interned at one that went this route."

I don't have a big issue with developers double dipping, provided their explanation makes sense.

The Current Situation with AJ Tilley's Outstanding Kickstarters

Serena Nelson writes: "The final major piece of news was in regards to refunds and finances. They've now stopped accepting any refund request by backers because they "had the chance to request them and now we have to focus on using the funds we have to complete the game". They've already gone through the budgets of these titles and were forced to supplement the development with sales from already released games. And while few, with mixed reviews, they do still push them out."

The Ballad of AJ Tilley

Serena Nelson writes: "AJ Tilley is a relatively well known player in the visual novel scene. Unfortunately it looks like his fame is more due to controversy than anything else. On Kickstarter he has three different accounts (AJTilley, Face2Palm, and KiritoKun) and too many campaigns to count between them. I generally don't mind going back to the well for new projects but his history with Kickstarter is getting quite out of hand. And I'm not the only one seeing this pattern."
