Nintendo: Will They Rise Again?

While the Italian plumber is still adored by gamers far and wide, he’s not enough to save Nintendo from modern advances in gaming. To be fair, Nintendo’s been dealt bob-ombs left and right. The company’s Wii U gaming system has only just sold 10 million copies, their iron rock Satoru Iwata passed away this summer, and they failed to make Interbrand’s 2015 list of the 100 Best Global Brands. The list is a huge deal as only the most profitable and malleable companies make the list. Nintendo’s lack of malleability has pushed them off the list for the first time since 2001.

Yes they will rise again. They made a fortune on the Wii and 3DS, even if they have another dud console they will still be fine

suckingeggs3861d ago

Another did console and they will be fine?

NX is facing a uphill battle.. Nintendo has failed to move with the times and it's come back to bite them in the ass just like how blackberry failed to move with the times and let apple usher in a new ecosystem..

If the NX fails Nintendo will go the way of Sega..sure you can say handheld consoles will be there saving grace but smart phones are eating into that market rapidly, with phones already more powerful than the DS..and smartphone tech is growing rapidly scarily so in fact.

NX has to be a success or Nintendo will become a software only company..

They cannot take another Wii u situation

wonderfulmonkeyman3861d ago

They won't become software only, NX or no NX.
Their life-blood is in making consoles, and with all the profits coming in from other sectors, it will take more than the NX failing to push them away from making a new one.

They've been in consoles for over a hundred years.
Anyone thinking one failure is all it will take to make them drop out, with all the money they've got behind them, is just fooling themselves.XD

Nintendo has already said that they usually start working on ideas for their next console as soon as their latest one releases, anyways.XD

@wonderfulmonkeyman

They've been in consoles for over a hundred years?
You mean business, right?

Angeljuice3861d ago (Edited 3861d ago )

@Wonderful

It's not just about money. Nintendo launching another failed console after the WiiU would diminish their importance in the gaming market even further.

You can have as much money in the bank as you like, if nobody cares about your products, why continue to make them?

Nintendo have been in business for over 100 years, they have been making consoles for the past 30+ years. They have survived by changing their business model when circumstances change and taking risks on new markets.

If the NX fails, who is to say they won't start making electric cars or washing machines (they've had pretty diverse interests in the past).

Fireseed3861d ago

Wait, they fell? Sure Wii U has been so-so but I'd hardly say Nintendo has gone to the depths of Atari.

Persistantthug3861d ago

The Wii U has not been "so-so"......The Wii U has been a TREMENDOUS flop.

And Personally, I don't think the NX is going to even be a traditional console......I think it's going to be a hybrid (handheld with TV out).

If the NX fails, then I truly believe Nintendo may exit hardware altogether.
Nintendo really needs to start figuring out how to make dramatic changes to its policies and overall stubbornness.

And no offense to Nintendo fans, but Nintendo needs NOT to listen to you. Why? because it's clear there aren't enough of you to make Nintendo successful. They needs to listen to people like myself (I derided and belittled the Wii U several months before launch and predicted the Wii U's failure) because I don't want to see an unsuccessful Nintendo........I'm simply trying to give them TOUGH LOVE.

Nintendo needs a green mushroom

captainexplosion3861d ago

Short answer: No.
Long answer: Nope.

Pillsbury13861d ago

If they are able to restore 3rd part relations and grow their fan base even larger. They have some of the most coveted ip's and they need to dig in that war chest to come back strong.

They have proven they can comeback before, look at the GameCube.

Persistantthug3859d ago

What do you mean "look at the GameCube"?

The gamecube was last place in the 6th generation (excluding Dreamcast).

Pillsbury13858d ago (Edited 3858d ago )

Exactly what you said the GameCube was in last place and they came back with the wii with the strongest sales ever. That would classify it as a comeback, would you not concur?

Persistantthug3858d ago

Yes.......the Wii did exceptionally well......

As a fad.

The Wii U is a show of Nintendo's actual fans....it ain't good, Pillsbury1, because when fads fade, they crash hard.

Pillsbury13858d ago (Edited 3858d ago )

Regardless if it was a fad or not it was one of the best selling consoles of all time.

Yes the wii u's sales show that people don't like underpowered consoles with a tablet as a controller.

Going back to my original argument, nintendo has a history of making comebacks from shortfalls. ie. Virtual boy, GameCube and 3ds. (3ds because when it launched the numbers where really low)

U.S. patent examiner rejects Nintendo’s summoning characters patent as obvious: non-final ruling

The rejection is non-final (and even when such rejections are labeled as “final”, the process is far from over, given that there can be, at minimum, an appeal to the Federal Circuit).

Good, as they should! A game mechanic like that shouldn't be locked behind a patent, and Nintendo didn't invent it either.

PRIMORDUS57d ago (Edited 57d ago )

Nintendo wants to keep wasting money on bullshit lawsuits, real smart in this economy. They should put that money aside for other game projects. On the other hand, I don't care if they waste it all either, and they are screwed in the future maybe that will teach them a lesson.

Nintendo Suing U.S. Government Over Tariffs

The fact that you have ANY disagrees will forever baffle me. And to the (apparent) MAGA contingent that exists on this website, enjoy your 8-9 dollar gas.

AuraAbjure81d ago (Edited 81d ago )

Yes, they had better be pissed after Trump told them the way they rip off the USA is over.

EveryPlatformGamer83d ago

LOL I read this on gaff, will they refund the money back to the gamers? highly unlikely. Didn't they just raise prices and pass it onto the gamers? Only Nintendo would send out the Ninjas to the US government.

-Foxtrot82d ago

That’s what I was thinking, imagine them winning hypothetically, getting a s**t load of money back which they would have lost if they hadn’t raised their prices and it’s business as normal.

It would just mean people paid more for no reason since they got the money back anyway.

Outside_ofthe_Box82d ago (Edited 82d ago )

A lot of companies partially passed the cost to consumers instead of all of it. They would still have to at least pay that back to gamers, but we know that won't happen. What's also sad is that prices won't come back down after the initial hike caused by tariffs.

People didn't understand the full repercussions of tariffs. That alone should have cost him the presidency if people knew it was a permanent price hike for consumers

Inverno82d ago

The people should sue these companies for having to over pay cause of these tariffs.

Eonjay82d ago

Naw they should sue the government for forcing the tax to begin with. No one reasonably expects these companies to absorb the taxes. Many smaller companies tried and were shut down or faced to increase prices to try to maintain their business. The tariffs effect everyone.

Inverno81d ago

I meant it mostly as a joke cause we all know the costs of these tariffs were passed onto the consumer. But it's seems no matter how vocal we are here in the states our "representatives" don't seem to care enough to represent us. And things are about to get worse.

Killer2020UK81d ago

The companies were doing what the law required then to do, the tariffs however were illegally implemented. Usually it's criminals we punish, you seem to have different ideas 🤷‍♂️
