Sony: Over 200 Developers Working on PlayStation VR

VRFocus reports on Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE) announcing that over 200 videogame developers are working with PlayStation VR.

Sony is really putting a lot of commitment to the VR movement

Dat "support" tho....

The reason behind this is simple. Technology has advanced enough to enable us to have really powerful screen while being really compact. Think smartphones, etc. Now you carry in your pockets what 50 years ago would take up an entire house.

So with such technologies being available, VR could now be done right. And it is only going to get better and better. 20 years from now, I can imagine that we will control all VR games with direct signals from our brains.

And once developers actually tried on PSVR or the Oculus Rift, they themselves became believers. It works people, your brain sits there, and convinces you that your're underwater with a shark coming right at you....

Crytek's "Robinson" was enough for me to tell myself to buy Morpheus.

200 developers?

Thanks Sony! TAKE MY MONEY.

All Sony really needs to do now is announce a competitive price and I'll be sold. That RIGS video really had me excited, if what they shown in that video is indicative of the experience of those wearing the headset, we're really going to be in for a treat. It'll be interesting to see if Microsoft are preparing some sort of response because if VR takes off, that's going to give an overwhelming advantage to Sony over it's competitors.

Yeah I've been very, very interested in PSVR and I already have $500 set aside for the unit and 3-4 games. But I wasn't really sold on RIGS until today, although the trailer wasn't that much different then the ones before. But it seems like something finally clicked for me about this game.

In regards to what you said about Microsoft. I don't think Microsoft can really have a response to PSVR this generation. The XBox One is not competitive enough to warrant another 1 or 2 Billion dollar project like a VR headseat from scratch. Even the idea of getting Oculus Rift to properly work on the XBox One would have major flaws as well.

#1 it would still cost a lot of money to develop and pay for it.

#2 it would cost even more money to keep a console version of OR exclusive to XBox One. Meaning that developing it the tech first, then having it exclusive to XBox One would cost just as much if not the same as building one in-house from scratch.

#3 If a console version of OR is not exclusive to XBox One, it would mean that it's also available on the PS4, soooo yea.

So I really think that this Generation was over for Microsoft since February 20, 2013. They were not at all ready for the PS4 to hit the market that same year and XBox One was simply not ready for market until at least 2014. They've been rushing and stumbling through this generation so far and VR would just complicate things exponentially for them.

in regards to what VR can do for Sony and the PS4. I said this a while back in when it was first rumored that GT7 would support VR and shortly afterwards Microsoft announced that they would take a "wait and see" approach. I said that it would be a very costly mistake, not just for this Gen, but for the next one as well. Because PSVR takes off now, it becomes a very recognizable brand like PlayStation is. Meaning that Sony already has mindshare for PSVR going into the next Generation, when MS will again be seen as the newcomer with less trust from consumers.

Are a bunch of games, some of which are nearly 10 years old not one being from 2026. Barely one from 2025.

I do like the irony of the closing paragraph though, "Why VR Adventure Games are Thriving". Really buddy?

mooreneco2153d ago

That’s because it’s his favourite VR adventure games thus far, a great game always a great game regardless of age - Half life 2/ Ocarina of time - are old but still among the greatest games of all time. The irony of it is several are from last year, depending on platform, have you even played VR?
