Looks clean. Almost no dust at all. I've seen computers literally covered in dust and yet running effortlessly, so this is nothing.

I usually clean out the openings with a can of compressed air at least once a month on my 60 gig. Purrs like a kitten.

thanks for that article. my PS3 is working as new, but i was always concerned about what it looked like inside... i wouldn't enjoy the games i have if i knew that dust was there. i'm just nipping outside for a minute to strip my car down, i hope there's no oil on the engine, it's been working great but i just wouldn't enjoy driving it if there is

Wow, this just shows what a piece of junk the PS3 is. It's only been a year and it already is in THAT horrible state? I'm surprised it hasn't failed yet. Oh year, Sony's low failure numbers are a lie. It's not surprising really, considering Sony is the real monster here and not Microsoft. Anyways, the PS3's actual failure rates are around 50%. Suddenly, the 360's failure rate doesn't seem so bad does it? And for all you that are going to make up wild claims that I am wrong, grow some brains and stop believing all those corporate lies Sony is feeding you. Everything positive they say about their system is a lie. They are probably scrapping it now and planning to get out of the gaming industry after that wreck of a console.

Anyways, these pictures just show how well built the 360 is and how badly and cheaply manufactured the PS3 is.

The PS3 is a high end electronic device, both inside and out.

The engineers at Sony deserve am award for how well constructed the PS3 is.

It's not much bigger than the 360 and has an internal power brick, unlike the 360's external one. In addition to that, built in Wi-fi, Bluetooth etc and is a lot quieter and has no overheating issues due to the built-in thermostat which will shut the console down and not let it power up again until it's cooled.

Basically, you get what you pay for. I'm not talking about games here, just using the 360 as a reference point.

The PS3 is a mans console, look at the beef on that machine.

I live in the UK and I've got my fifth (replacement) PS3 coming next week, hence i have had four PS3's come and go through my door already within a year; what happened to the "ten year lifespan"? Its a shame Sony can't fix the Blu-ray problems; three of my consoles suffered Blu-ray disc read errors, also I had one console with an overheating problem (yellow light on the front). But I would like to point out that Sony do have good customer relations, they said that if our fifth replacement fails they will give us a free game or something similar as a good will gesture; not too bad in my opinion, considering the console is out of warranty (launch model). My only worry now is that the chain of replacements will grow ever larger, however with the 'Continuous Play' insurance program i'm sure we will have a safety net to fall back on. I just wanted to let you guys know about the issues I have experienced and let off some steam really. I do believe that I've just been unlucky with refurbished units and as you can tell by my story; patience and persistance are both virtues; useful to apply to electronics equipment.

This gen hasn't been the best for games, last gen consoles are still out there and now there's been talk of the PS6 and Xbox Two for a year or so. Many games this gen will be ported to next gen and the cycle will continue. The re-release of the Neo Geo AES+, games on cartridge for £70 ($95), gaming is going back in time. Gaming has gone pricing mad with the high cost of games, consoles and controllers. The men and women at the top are clueless.

It’s always interesting to hear behind-the-scenes stories like this, especially involving veterans like Shuhei Yoshida and leadership figures like Jim Ryan. That said, there are usually multiple sides to decisions at that level. It could be less about not “listening” and more about differences in long-term vision for PlayStation. Yoshida played a huge role in shaping the brand, so whatever the reason, his impact is undeniable.

If true, and I'm inclined to believe it is, it goes to show that Sony lost their way when they became more western/didn't respect the PlayStation origin story. Andrew House and Jack Tretton did great work, but they also didn't try to fundamentally change the PlayStation DNA. Ryan oversaw the death of Japan Studio and a live service direction.

I miss the first three generations of PlayStation. The way they turned PS3 around, we knew they meant business. We were all worried for a bit there around launch. Eventually from 2008 they started shifting slowly. But since Yoshida was fired, it's never been the same. Still enjoy my PS5 daily. I got a backlog dating back to PS2 lol So I'm fine but new games aren't as appealing anymore.

It seems like we were thrown on to the worst timeline possible where everything is too expensive and the wrong people were put in positions that makes the world a shitty place. We could have had Shu as the head of PS but we got the shitty alternative. Same goes for everyone in power around the world. Doesn’t matter the company or country the majority of us got the shitty picks and the world is declining like never before. I do think PS can come out of this because of their studios, talent and IP but they need someone more in touch with gamers leading things like Shu was. They’re still the best place for console gaming imo but it could be much better than it is especially without the massive live service failures. The rest of the world I have a lot less hope for right now. Hopefully the pendulum swings back towards the good ole days but I’m preparing for the worst.

Jim Ryan is the reason why we are entering year 6 since the PS5 launch and many of us don't feel like the PS5 has gotten started as yet.
