DOOM Multiplayer Closed Alpha

Bethesda:
Before we dive into any details about DOOM’s Closed Alpha multiplayer tests, let’s get a few housekeeping details out of the way.

First, these are not Betas, nor are they game demos. Instead, these are a series of closed tests with limited functionality – in the case of tomorrow's Closed Alpha, one map, one mode, and a partial selection of weapons and equipment – with the goal of banging on a bunch of back-end functionality in a real-world setting. Sure, the team at id Software will be taking a close look at feedback on the gameplay itself, but that’s just part of the goal here. Much of this initial Closed Alpha is dedicated to assessing how real people connect to servers, systems and the back-end infrastructure needed to operate the game. In other words, all the technical stuff that’s essential to helping id’s vision for DOOM come to life.

D*ng this brings back memories.

VER1ON3829d ago

I'm quite hyped for this one. Wonder what ID Software will deliver with the use of this new id Tech 6 engine.

@bartmoons

Dang is a bad word?? LOL!

So glad they ditched the slow pace and narrow corridors of Doom3 and returned to the fast paced, wide open arena style action of the first two games. This feels like Doom should feel.

Timesplitter143829d ago (Edited 3829d ago )

it has a decent arena shooter feel (although it seems a tiny bit too slow), but it also looks a bit generic. I'm kinda expecting this to be "good but not great"

Unreal Tournament 5 seems a bit more promising imo. It's faster and the environments look more interesting. It's a shame most people don't even know that it exists an it's playable right now for free (just download Unreal Engine 4 and you can play the development build)

love doom but as far as multiplayer goes, im still waiting for the true successor to quake 3

FlameBaitGod3829d ago

This looks exactly like Unreal Tournament loL, even the map design in one of them.

This and Halo 5 are coming back for the throne.

Want Doom so bad.

ArchangelMike3829d ago

Reminds me more of Quake III Arena than Doom!

VER1ON3829d ago

Ah quake 3 arena, didnt that compete against UT back then?

Paytaa3829d ago

UT vs Quake was a classic rivalry. I preferred UT2003 more than Quake but I would kill for both of them to make a huge comeback although the new UT looks fantastic.

Kleptic3829d ago

Quake and the original Doom games could almost be considered the same franchise multiplayer wise...Quake 1, and 2 just picked up where Doom II left off (or, technically, final doom i guess)...the original doom games were hugely popular multiplayer wise, and by the time Quake III came along it was multiplayer only.

so yeah this does look more like Quake III than Doom II...but Doom hasn't had a proper sequel since 1995...and doom 3 doesn't count...

ArchangelMike3829d ago

I agree with you, but I don't think this Doom 'reboot' counts as a true sequel to etiher. But I will reserved judgement until I play the game I guess.

Alexious3829d ago

I think this game is going to surprise a lot of people.

VER1ON3829d ago

Think it will too, reboot ftw

boodi3829d ago (Edited 3829d ago )

pretty decent reboot this time around , the multiplayer is very similar to a doped/nerfed QIIIARENA
which can be likely good to begin with , then we will know when a non-alpha gameplay vid will be around
should be good

Simon's Quest is better than Symphony.

If you're gonna troll, at least make a legitimate attempt.

Levii_92341d ago

Hot damn that's a good list. The only one i never played is AOE2 and i never finshed Chrono Trigger but it was damn good.

Speaking of what's old but holds up amazingly well and plays like a dream.. i played Symphony of the Night for the first time in 2019.. yep that's right. It became one of my favourite games of all time that i replay almost every year. I couldn't believe how good it was. That is almost impossible for me with newer games let alone older ones. Truly a special gem.

LG_Fox_Brazil341d ago

That's a pretty fucking great list

__y2jb341d ago (Edited 341d ago )

The only one I’d disagree with is doom. It shows its age badly I think. After 5 minutes of play these days you put it down.
