SegmentNext - Mass Effect Andromeda developer EA has hinted at some pretty interesting information. It is no secret that Andromeda is being developed using Frostbite. Same engine used for Battlefield, Star Wars Battlefront and more.

Soon there will be reports describing how the game looks , without any screenshots

My god Mass Effect is shaping up to be GOTY. Heard nothing huge, beautiful, mind-blowing, next generation adjectives about it.

I hope they use DX12. But I own a PS4 so won't be benefiting from it tho.:p Does anyone know if PS4 games will use DX12 as well? Or is it for PC and Xbox One only?

meche3343876d ago

Not much. But it may benefit from the multi-core utilization aspect

medman3875d ago (Edited 3875d ago )

@letsplayhalo
DX12 is redundant for consoles, so this article's headline, and the article itself, mainly pertain to pc optimiztion factors. DX12 will see the most benefits on pc, marginal improvements for xbox one games. See Sony's ICE team for "closer to the metal" programming examples. AMD's mantle has also been doing this for awhile now...so long story short...console benefits marginal, and the xbox one and ps4 already allow the benefits DX12 will create for pc as that was part of their design structure from the beginning.

That is not entirely true, DX12 makes it easier to harness certain features including the scheduling algorithm to load balance the CPU cores.

Game developers have been having issues with parallelizing computations. DX12 provides a pipeline for this so more devs can take advantage of it with less resources invested and less expertise.

Keep in mind that the quality of algorithms isn't something that is easily seen by armchair devs, but the result can make a huge difference.

We have already heard rumblings 20% increase in performance from devs retrofitting their games. Once we switch to DX12 from the ground up, there is room for even more increase.

However, PC is definitely the biggest gainer in here (in many cases).

Either way, this is the first DX that is focused on performance and not just features. It is a very exciting time for sure!

Typical EA propaganda, flood N4G with useless info to keep the titles in the news.

Will they also be online/muti-player only?

Some of the best psvr 2 titles leaving, nothing coming, way to support your psvr 2 owners. Still, I don't mind the games coming personally.

crazyCoconuts379d ago

Yeah I upped to premium when they started adding psvr2 with the expectation that they would keep coming. now when my sub ends I'll be scaling back

For All Its Flaws, Mass Effect: Andromeda's Approach to Romance is Something ME4 Can Learn From

While Mass Effect: Andromeda was let in several key areas, one of its approaches to romances is something Mass Effect 4 should consider revisiting.

I hope Mass Effect 4 ignores the inferior prequels and instead closely follows the far superior Mass Effect: Andromeda and Dragon Age Inquisition.

anast495d ago (Edited 495d ago )

Mass Effect 4 should just make Mass Effect 1 but better with current tech. Fans would be happy. As far as romance, they should take notes from the Witcher and Cyberpunk.

Later Bioware games have to little build up. You can have a normal conversation and all of a sudden BAM! The character you talk to becomes super flirty.

TricksterArrow494d ago

Reminds me of Baldur’s Gate. I wanted to practice some magic and Gale made it super weird. Not even gonna mention Astarion.

gold_drake495d ago (Edited 495d ago )

iii dunno about that.

the only really great and funny dating partner, is that outlaw guy anyways haha he was funny as hell.

other than that, i found every character to be very annoying.

Shout out to Keri the Asari reporter. Current relationship status be damned as she's game either way. Anything for a good story. 🤣
