Who The Hell Is Mafia III Developer Hangar 13?

GameInformer:

"With our November cover story on Mafia III, we gave readers a mountain of information on the game. After a shift away from Mafia II's creators 2K Czech (which now serves a support role in development), there are a lot of questions from fans about where Hangar 13 came from and how they plan on continuing the Mafia franchise. In this video feature, we peel back the curtain on the new studio that's working to create it."

I personally never heard of them I hope they do this game justice. Looking at the gameplay trailers it looks ok nothing more and them car explosions looked stupid and really need some work but let's hope they make a good job.

Angeljuice3879d ago

You haven't heard of them because they are a brand new studio that have not released a game yet (Mafia III will be their first).

porkChop3879d ago

I think the game looks great, though the car explosions do need to be tweaked a bit.

SunnyZ3879d ago

They are the people bringing my dream of a new MAFIA game to fruition.
That's who the hell they are!

In Praise of Mafia III’s Voice Acting

Shaz from Pixel Swish: "The Mafia games have always excelled in storytelling and voice acting. Though Mafia 3 faltered in some gameplay aspects, its story and, particularly, voice acting are tremendous."

Mafia III had a great narrative and some truly incredible performances. The gameplay loop had its issues but the story, acting, world and atmosphere don't get nearly enough credit.

Profchaos442d ago

I loved the story elements butbfirnme the gameplay loop went behind issues it was utterly dull and it's structure was it's downfall.

Go to area of map disrupt business through open world shenanigans that feel extremely rinse and repeat many times until cutscenes and boss fight then repeat again

They had so much potential especially in the CIA angle but it was squandered.

I wish they could do it over and focus on the narrative like a more traditional GTA game

VivaChe441d ago

First few hours: "This game is incredible!"

Hour 10: "Wait, that's it? I'm going to be doing the same thing over and over for the rest of the game??"

Mafia Proves How A Well-Presented Story Can Overcome Terrible Gameplay

Shaz from GL: "Sometimes a game's story can be so captivating and so well presented that it makes up for its lacklustre gameplay; such is the case with Mafia: Definitive Edition."

Have to agree. Love the game as a whole, but the gunplay is pretty lackluster. Wouldn't call it outright terrible though.

smashman98647d ago

When I went into Mafia I was looking for some Godfather game style gameplay. While Mafia 1 and 2 have disappointed me on this front I am hoping for the new one to satiate.

Despite this I do agree with the writer here I love me some Mafia stuff even if it isn't as good (imo) as the Godfather game

jambola647d ago

eh, it was the ps2 era
most games had terrible gameplay
especially shooters, especially 3rd person shooters

Profchaos647d ago

Yeah in a way played Mafia one after spending months playing vice city and the gameplay felt so clunky in comparison so there was certainly better games it there that felt good to play

Friendlygamer647d ago (Edited 647d ago )

Now that's crazy revisionism to me, in the ps2 era many devs mastered 3d graphics and gameplay, heck I would say that we really haven't evolved all that much past games like dmc 3, metal gear 3, Splinter cell, resident evil 4... in design, as a matter of fact I would say we went backwards in some aspects (physics and experimentation). That era has some tight shooters too like : the darwatch, black, king kong, psy ops, gun, the punisher

PrecursorOrb647d ago

1 and 2 had fun gameplay for their time. Yeah comparing them to shooters now is a little unfair imo

Iceball2000647d ago

Honestly the original PC version I find was better. But the remake was good too.

sagapo647d ago

I completely agree. Nothing beats the original imo.

Agreed....game was fantastic. Especially as a person of color, I enjoyed the side missions.

I'm Black myself, which is different from Lincoln who is bi racial. (It's trendy to ignore that mixed people are half White for some reason) What would color have to do with enjoying a game like this? Imagine if people playing God of War were like "Gee, I'm enjoying playing as a White person right now". If we want others to relate to things other than skin color, we have to start setting an example as "People of Color" (That term is so stupid btw)

InklingGirl1413d ago

I wonder if this comment will get removed like mine? It shouldn't but I'm just curious.

LucasRuinedChildhood1413d ago (Edited 1413d ago )

"What would color have to do with enjoying a game like this?"

Skin colour matters a lot in the story and setting of Mafia 3. It even affects the gameplay.

The comparison to God Of War doesn't make sense.

I'm Irish (as in, a person born in Ireland), and I'd probably enjoy a game where you can fight in the Irish War of Independence ... a bit more than the average Brit. lol. Who cares? If a British person "Imagine if ...", I'd just laugh.

LucasRuinedChildhood1413d ago (Edited 1413d ago )

*said "Imagine if ..."

Also, it is cool when you play an Irish character in a game who doesn't put on a leprechaun accent like Tom Cruise did. "Shannon! Tell me you like my hat!" https://youtu.be/eKrEVWGTuR...

Terry_B1414d ago

nah..its mediocre and repetitive.

Demetrius1414d ago (Edited 1414d ago )

I played it once and it was very frustrating compared to mafia 2 I like to enjoy games not get raged all up 😂😂

XbladeTeddy1413d ago

It was repetitive and boring. Not a good game at all.

Yi-Long1414d ago

The game looked interesting, and from the trailers it seemed it had a great soundtrack, but the buggy release (AI) and disappointing reviews made me pass on it. No idea if they ever fixed its shortcomings post-launch.

XbladeTeddy1413d ago

They could only polish a turd so much. Wasn't good at release and isn't good now.

MadLad1414d ago

Weakest game in the series.

AuraAbjure1413d ago

People said that about Wolfenstein:Youngblood. I played youngblood and it is a masterpiece and so awesome and entertaining and badass, with ray tracing too. Is Mafia 3 a great game on its own merit? I understand compared to the other Mafias, you feel it's weak.

MadLad1411d ago

I respectfully disagree.
