Hands-On: Star Wars: Battlefront Has Potential, But Needs Serious Work [EGMR]

EGMR writes: "Star Wars: Battlefront will surely divide a great many fans, and the reactions prove this as people seem to either love it to bits or hate it."

Hit detection is the biggest issue. Has been since the Alpha. I had a heavy blaster and nailed the guy repeatedly while he was coming at me, he was being knocked back with every hit, no shield, nada. He pulls a pistol and one shot kills me all the while being hit and taking about 8 hits to the head and chest at point blank range. That happens again and again, you have to unload multiple rounds into a person at times. Other times, one shot kill no issues, but far too often you need to pour it on to take them down.

I didn't have that problem at all funnily enough and usually I suffer from it a lot.

The weapons feel so dull though. I feel like I'm using a nerf gun half the time.

I'm curious, is it just the Battlefield fans that are enjoying this beta?

I personally didn't like Battlefield 4 and I've been similarly disappointed with Battlefront... the campers shooting from across the map, the run-die-repeat cycle, the mediocre map-design (I know they didn't have much leeway with Hoth, but there's no excuse for that Sullust map) and the way it plays (movement, gunplay, flight etc) all feels a bit too similar to DICE's previous game (minus the destruction).

For the record, I'm not a Halo or a CoD fan either - though I do enjoy Titanfall and Team Fortress 2... I reckon 'Lawbreakers' will be the next FPS to get any of my money - it looks like a truly demanding experience.

Im a battlefield fan...and prefer battlefield. This game has good visuals, and the gunplay aint bad...just feels like BF to me, with reskinned starwars weapons that dont have bullet spread or bullet drop. laser rifles/pistols ARE cool though.

I think of this game, more of a stripped out battlefield, similar to the vietnam expansion to BF:bad company. I highly doubt Ill enjoy it as much as some of the other shooters (which I wont name, here)..But I think at a discount or maybe free on EA access, I could bite...

I think its MP lobbies will be mostly dead in a year.

Unlike all these Sulky Sally's, I'm very much liking it. It feels pretty difference to BF, looks a ton better an is just something new!

I had 121 kills and 1 death in a single hoth match. It was the day the beta came out and I just sat in a boring ass turret. But now everyone knows to take out the turrets right off the rip. Even though the turrets reappear 3 minutes later. This morning I had 86 kills because I just kept Walker Spawning the whole match.

That's the players fault for literally getting in your way though not the game. I've gone entire matches without being killed by a single vehicle and playing the objective.

You have to play smart as a rebel but we all know most gamers are not smart.

Personally I can't wait for the Fighter Squadron mode.
