Why Star Wars Battlefront’s Walker Assault Mode Shouldn’t be Changed

CraveOnline: "It's unbalanced, but that's all part of the fun."

This should be changed. Being unbalanced is not part of the fun. Game mechanics are so watered down and accessible to a broad audience that it alienates a lot of core gamers from being able to enjoy it. Soud, graphics and everything star wars is well done. Gameplay and mechanics are unbalanced, unfun, and unrewarding.

SaveFerris3911d ago

If anything, EA will want it to be as accessible as possible (sales), because Black Ops III is due out this holiday as well. If it remains unbalanced, this could turn off a lot of players by giving a bad impression of the final product.

dmeador3910d ago

If you read the article, it is talking about the unbalance of the actual walker assault. I actually had the some thoughts as the writer, and actually enjoyed playing as the rebels more. The only fist pump moments I had in the beta were when we would take down both walkers. Very satisfying

suicidalblues3910d ago

Totally agree. If you save orbital strikes for the walkers you can decimate the imperials. It feels very good taking down a walker and shouldn't be nerfed.

Baka-akaB3910d ago (Edited 3910d ago )

Doesn mean you can't still tweak it to make it more satisfying for those not looking for an S&M challenge .

The empire could still be huge favorite on the map , but it wouldnt hurt to have more options or effects than keeping active relay stations so bombardiers make the Walkers vulnerable , and then being shot down while focusing fire on walkers .

There is a better balance somewhere to find , and ways as a mostly casual fun game , to make it more palatable that to just a dozen or so gof us having a kick of beating bad odds .

OB1Biker3910d ago

Yea I mainly play in rebel team too its more interesting. I got the feeling as people get to know the game better it will be a bit more balanced. I'd appreciate having more time when the walkers are vulnerable but being able to use orbital strike only once would then be fair IMO.

PurpHerbison3910d ago

Part of the problem is Rebels can't just play TDM and ignore objectives. The Imperials can. I honestly don't believe that the Rebels are at some sort of heavy disadvantage but because of your average team mate playing TDM instead of trying to knock out objectives it ends up seeming that way.

Tony-Red-Grave3910d ago

The walkers themselves are no problem (orbitals and airspeeders pretty much destroy them). The real issue are the spawns for players and support items. It's so easy to get repeated AT-AT supoort, but if you want an X-Wing or air speeder good freggin luck! Plus the AT-STs are so easy to find pick up AND they tank through so much damage :/ hell for some reason rebel spaceships do almost no damage to them even though they do really good against walkers.

Other than spawns the mode itself is fine.

Baka-akaB3910d ago (Edited 3910d ago )

The power ups are there , the issue in the beta is that idiots rush towards the token and higs them , even to realize they don't want the vessels ... when they shoudl remain in the air or let it around for the time to strike

dmeador3909d ago

Agree with most everything said, there are still so many people I see that 1) shoot at walkers when shields are up 2) not use any ion weapons 3) not use turrets 4) waste orbital strikes 5) not focus fire on one walker.

With a decent team and some still doing this you can get 1/4 damage on both in the first strike. Seems very possible to take at least one out in the first go round

Have you taken out both walkers at the start as rebels? I have. It's insanely rewarding. It's a challenge to take them down as it should be.

PreAtaric3910d ago (Edited 3910d ago )

People just don't know what to do. After days of playing and never seeing a rebel win, they won twice in a row earlier. That team obviously knew what to do, while my team hardly even tried to activate the uplinks when we were rebels. They'd gather around them and "defend" them without actually turning them on. I thought it was a balance problem at first, but I changed my mind today.

kaizokuspy3909d ago (Edited 3909d ago )

To all who commented on this, I appreciate your input. I guess I'll go more in depth for you guys why I'm off put and feel the way I do.:

Hit detection is awful. Cannot tell you how many times I've shot people dead center close range with blaster and they do not lose health. (They did not have a personal shield)

Walker Assault is simple enough to understand, destroy walkers. Okay, I got that, but oh wait orbital airstrike especially and a ,x, and y wings are what matter? What happens when most people who are casual like in the beta don't care to use those tokens correctly? Then you have a broken unbalanced game because it hinges on regular players, knowing to save the "random tokens" on the ground just to destroy the atat, but now the tokens are being camped by the enemy and now you don't have a chance at doing dmg to the walker. All the while the imperial just play rdm against you in their atat, atst, and tie fighter, just laughing at the rebels who actually have hard objectives. That's where it's broken.

The balance of objectives between imperial and rebel are scaled differently. One is vastly easier than the other, that's what makes it broken. I don't care if it's true to star wars lore. This is a game, mechanics should be solid.

Let's talk about star cards, load outs
One of the worse things about the beta are the cards and how they did away with class based multiplayer. The star cards are nest at first but would've been useless and trite had they stuck with battlefront 2 game design and used class base multiplayer based on which faction you were playing as.
Now it's basically star wars cod, with battlefield player movement and the option of tps. I understand that's a big generalization but just hits home more so that the game itself; past it's pretty graphics and sound is just a mundane experience for me. After my third match I didn't want to play anymore, but I did hit rank 5 and unlock everything you can by going back yesterday just to make sure I had my opinion solid.

The targeting reticle is great because I prefer small, but to have us play on hoth in the snow and not allow us to change the reticle type or color so we can even see where we are shooting is bad game design. I'm 30 with poor vision. I wear glasses but shouldn't have to struggle to see my target reticle on a 60 inch flat screen.

Missions are a joke as you can do them all by yourself, blindfolded.

Everything is just too overly simplified that this game now lacks any semblance of depth aside from graphics, visuals, and just star wars nostalgia.

That's why I'm disheartened and upset by the beta as battlefront and battlefront 2 were staples in my youth, and they've become monetized through ea and dice greed.

We're getting way less content. Maps, pvp, ai, everything is short or not as well done as it were on ps2 and that's just sad.

So again, I'm happy others are looking forward to this game, but these are the reasons I am skipping it. I do hope anyone who enjoys it, but this one will remain in the psn store with a buy icon for me.

Well watch the movie. I rewinded the movie and every time the empire wins. So its basically on par with the movie.

Allsystemgamer3910d ago

It should be hard to take them out. The problem is the players only seem to care about their KD.

Simco8763910d ago

As with all online shooters nowadays.

Seafort3910d ago

I don't care about some stats I try to do the objectives as Rebels or Imperials.

I don't end up in the top half of the scoreboeard but I had fun playing the map as it was meant to be played :)

Antifan3910d ago

It's unbalanced because of the stupid Power-up system. People are too busy looking for tokens instead of playing the objectives. Adding in classes. This kind of objective based game needs classes.

madmonkey013910d ago

its unbalanced in the beta because a lot of weapons and perks are unavailable, a few ion torpedo ir something like that will allow rebels to do a lot more dps to the at-at

AstroCyborg3910d ago

if this mode don't get balanced the mode will die as quickly as hardline

Allsystemgamer3910d ago

It is balanced one orbital strike does over 50% damage. It's the stupid players who don't play the objective that ruins it.

kaizokuspy3909d ago

So let's put a random token on the map that randomly gives the rebel what he needs to cause dmg to AtAts....yeah balanced. All the while they are transparent, don't appear on the mini map and most of the time if you know what to do you have to luck into obtaining them as you are competing with 19 other people at the same time for them. Not to mention being shot at. Let's not talk about the rebel killzone that is the hangar. So awful. This game definitely is not balanced and beta or not, limited features or not, the beta is a broken, unbalanced game and the fun only comes from sounds, graphics, and that it's star wars. The game itself is mediocre and shouldn't be put on a pedestal like many do.

PurpHerbison3910d ago (Edited 3910d ago )

Rebels OP! http://www.twitch.tv/thedro...

Check out that highlight.

Ethereal3910d ago

Yea, I haven't seen anyone do this....

PurpHerbison3910d ago

Yeah it is pretty rare. Not enough people that actually focus on objectives.

Baka-akaB3910d ago

Except that in the beta setting , most times some doofus will rush the token , and do nothing worthwhile with it , at best crash into some victim or an AT ST .

And since it's randomly available , it might be missing right when needed for the right player .

Sure i'm not saying it's a reason to make Walker and the empire weak or something , and lose the advantage on that map ... but some tweaks would be fine
