Rainbow 6 Siege Beta Impressions | Codec Moments

Matt at Codec Moments writes: "We’ve not been the most complimentary when it’s come to beta access games here at Codec Moments. In many ways the ones we’ve been invited to have managed to put us off buying the full games on release, even if they were good in the end (Destiny is one that springs to mind). So it was with great trepidation that we loaded up Rainbow 6 Siege for the first time, having enjoyed the previous instalments over the years as co-op experiences, we were expecting this to be less than stellar. Were we wrong?"

Hated it at first because it was not like any other rainbow game. mainly no cover system.

after playing it for a while especially with friends i started appreciating it for what it is and its not a bad game. But that doesn't excuse the full retail price for an simple online only game.

Completely agree. Also the fact that it feels like an updated counter strike taking a realistic swing doesn't help.

What happened to planning an attack and choosing your teammates for the job in the r6 of old 😑

Thank you! Rouge spear and Raven shield for the win!

Was your first Rainbow game Vegas?

I am glad they don't have a cover system. I am much more of a fan of the first games in the series like Raven Shield and Rainbowsix 3.

TLG19913869d ago

No, vegas was definitely not my first rainbow. far from it.

No, but for online multiplayer, it worked out amazingly.

There's other stuff wrong...

The waiting...
No mode with respawns... more waiting...

To make up for no respawns they added best of FIVE ROUNDS... so there's tons of waiting inbetween rounds.

Because of this, people leave, and then you're screwed, it's so stupid. You could be up 2-0, half your team leaves, and then you lose 2-3.

Of course one of the reasons they might leave is because they didn't get the class they wanted. Yes idiotic Ubisoft decided there can only be one of each type, except the generic loadout. So if your team won the first few rounds because the best player got his/her preferred loadout and then didn't, well then you might lose.

You play and get to unlock stuff, like these classes. Only to not be able to play this unlocked class, because someone else picked it. So at the start of the round it's more like a race to get to and secure your class before someone else takes it. If it's gone?.... well then people leave the match, and it can happen at any round. Plus you can hear people moan and groan and get pissed off at their teammates.

Such a stupid way to setup the game. Each one feeds off the other stupid way to make a combined stupider way, which then combines with a stupid way for an even more stupider way. That's what no respawn, five rounds, one person per class does. Each bad decision feeds off each other to together make a far bigger problem then each part alone.

Also the friendly fire thing is dumb, you get people that start team killing, and then you get people who teamkill to stop the teamkilling, but sometimes they pick the wrong person, and then it becomes a giant clusterf.

No cover system, which is DUMB. So dumb. This game screams cover system, especially the fluid art it was in Rainbow Six 1 and 2. You could have some massive cover battles at select spots of some maps.

Maybe the beta didn't have all the classes or gadets or weapons or upgrades to weapons, but overall it was mighty light in that department.

The destruction is cool, the type of gameplay which seems so different then almost every other shooter out there is cool... so there was definitely something Ubisoft could work from, but they screwed it up.

Is it still a buy? Depends on how badly you want a game of this sort. If badly, then yes, if not, then no.

No Calypso Casion? C'mon....

The whole point of an online game is to have fun online and keep people playing. But if you don't get your class or 2nd class, then there is incentive to leave. You get killed and have to wait because of no respawns, then there is incentive to leave. You see that you are down 0-2, there is incentive to leave. The list goes on and on. They keep incentivizing people to leave with the decisions Ubisoft made with the game, rather then stay.

Some people simply don't want 1 death modes. Just about every other FPS/TPS online game has one kill modes, but they also have modes with respawns, and mostly the ones with respawns are played far more frequently. That's what most people want, and the ones with respawns also fit well into previous Rainbow Six games.

So people are going to have a problem with it not just being online only, but it looks like it's only 1/2 of an online game. There just isn't much depth to the game. It's very shallow, and you'll waiting forever in that shallowness.

So much promise, so much let down. Still fun, but it could of been epic.

Will I buy it? Well I already did, but I guess with the delay Sony automatically refunded my preorder. So I need to re-buy it.

Rainbow 6 1/2 did not have cover. It came out in the 90s dude. Vegas was not a true rainbow 6 game. Rainbow 6 always had leaning in 1st person until Vegas which made it less realistic.

Personally love it. Along with many others I do find the lack of cover system a bit odd. A contextual cover system would be nice, considering the house comes apart. Currently the lean functionality is basically useless.
