Well, shit. OMG, Halo 5, Destiny and other shooters. Cosmetic or not. I'm not following this BS.

This has been known for a long time since they added 9 inventory slots to emotes.

How long before we can buy shaders, maybe even cosmetic shaders to alter ones armor appearance? Spartan Shaders? Medieval armor shaders? How about popular franchise shaders, star wars stormtrooper shaders, anyone? Extra character slots? How about a instant lvl 40 item?

Soon anything worth anything will be purchased with silver only.

I'd love to complain, but I simply won't buy it. I'm still waiting for The Taken King to drop in price. I honestly don't want the original Destiny, or The Dark Below, or House of Wolves.

Well, think about the this even mobile games that do this and Games like this have something in common in the very roots of electronic gaming, and its coming full circle again.

If you think about it, what was one thing in a retail established centric market that. Electronic gaming was really big before game console's out side of the PC. At one time , it was such a big business pretty much every retail store had one. Many times even your local mom n pop corner store had one.

Thats right, this is a hybrid of the "Arcade" business model, its back but it also has advantages that before you did not have unless you owned your own Arcade machine, or you made your own mame cabinet.

You one can keep playing the game without having to feed it real money after you bought the game!

The developers and publishers are doing this to make extra money or in some cases being able to offer more content that may also have extra DLC to gain other content some free some that cost money, the core still being is you can still play the game even without buying the extra content.

Something the Arcade business model was never really set to do, unless you bought your own machine. That's really why console's become popular in such a short amount of time. And its also why many companies want part of that old business model back, they are being very realistic though and know , they could never get the full business model of the Arcade back, but at least this is the closest compromise that allows them to bring it back in a form that benefits both them and the consumer's.

So while I agree with you on what you stated bubble up by the way, I also understand why the publishers are Infact doing this. And while many times I can in effect do not agree with the publishers on this, I do understand why they are doing it.

It is up to each and every consumer themselves, to pay or not to pay for the extra content that is made for the game.

Example:

Games workshop made Talisman, and at one time the basic game could be purchased, but than other parts were added "expansions" to the basic board game after you were done it added up to over $100.00+ for a board game back in the early 90's that was pretty expensive. For paper & card board with lil plastic cones, but great artwork and fantastic game design.

The good thing was without buying the extra sections of the board game was OK, because you could still play the game as intended, but by buying the extra expanded sections you could add , allowed new ways to play the game.

Nice to see people complain about this business model after complaining about their business model before.

So long as everything really is just cosmetic this seems like a far better option than before. New content won't be gated behind a "paywall".

See, the thing is, for the longest time everyone was dead set that this game would leave microtransactions alone (we were wrong). Many people have been asking for new dances/mappable emotes and the like, and that was In a time where we expected new content to be included in the purchase of the expansions. People can say what they want about pricing, but I see the DLC expansions as overpriced (yet I still happily bought them as I enjoy the game and play it very often). Here's the problem:

You know how many people on various forums clamorred for weapon shaders, etc? There's a good chance they'll finally be coming to the game, but not as a feature of a large expansion, but as microtransaction drivel. Where the 18 new dances could have simply been a new addition to the economy of destiny, that improves the game, allows for more self expression and bolsters the value of the Taken King, it's simply a marketplace for Activision to make money.

Cosmetic microtransactions won't affect gameplay, but the fact that the masses will surely pour their money into this (as a majority of the destiny community plays often), the business strategy will likely expand in the game. Soon, customization options that could be open to all that wish to purchase expansions will be locked behind paywalls, probably costing upwards of a dollar a piece converted. Sparrow shaders, ship shaders, gun shaders, maybe class items, ghost shells, optional voice changes, who knows what Activision could come up with.

Unlike some I don't believe that microtransactions will breach into gameplay mechanics. I truly don't think BUNGIE would be okay with that. However, there will be a lot of features that are locked behind this new silver currency. All cosmetic, but if they had stuck to the other model we could have had these features as small selling points of expansions.

I have to be honest though... This will probably be a great strategy for all the casual market, those that are accustomed to microtransactions and are less prone to spending big money chunks on expansions. The only reason that I, me, myself... Don't like it, is that this would be more expensive for me, and I'm limited on funds. Previously, a year of destiny would cost, say 100 dollars, EVERYTHING included. A couple small expansions and a bigger one, with all of the features and content those expansions hold. Now, if I want the ENTIRE destiny experience, I'll have to pay hundreds and hundreds of dollars worth of silver. And I'm not okay with that. Most people don't have the same play style as me, but I'm a collector. I enjoy collecting things. However, the more I play destiny, the more it seems that I will NEVER be able to feel complete with it.

So, to the masses, enjoy your new business model. I won't be paying Activision a cent for this silver stuff. I'll spend my money on content. All the crazy people that either have enough money that throwing away hundreds on armor coloring is nothing, or have a poor priority on financial management, can have fun. Hey, if them spending a bunch of money gets me any free content that OTHERWISE WOULDNT HAVE BEEN DEVELOPED, sounds okay to me.

You get free story content in lieu of paid cosmetic stuff. If you have a problem with this you may want to check your reading comprehension. This basically means no one will be locked out of the game when story content drops and is similar to how Rockstar handles GTA online DLC. Please go cry in the corner where no one will hear your basicness.

This game is absolutely rediculous! Any new or existing player has to buy every new expansion pack that comes out to keep playing everything (why does this game not just use a subsciption model?). But now there are microtransations! And people continue to be okay with this kind of bs going on in the industry?

And to make things worse, you could tell from miles away this game was really going to be no good and there'd be greed all over it!

I always thought Guitar Hero was boring the button clicking with the plastic guitar also got annoying. I played it twice with friends but I was also drunk and stoned. There are people who like Destiny but I never liked the game.
