Introducing Eververse Trading Company

DeeJ, Destiny Community Manager writes: "This coming Tuesday, October 13th, Tess Everis will return to The Tower with a new look, a new storefront, and some new items to sell, courtesy of Eververse Trading Company. Initially, Tess will offer eighteen brand new emotes. Like the trio of emotes offered via The Taken King Collector’s Edition, these emotes are completely optional, and won’t impact the action game in any way. "

Zotaku873884d ago

I don't care how good the content - I wish micro-transactions would disappear from fully priced, retail games.

xPhearR3dx3884d ago

I agree. Although, a few exceptions would be GTA V (never felt the need or thrown in my face to purchase) and Guild Wars 2. The microtransaction in that game were done correctly considering there's no sub fee. That and Path of Exile (although it's F2P) are the only games in recent memory were you didn't feel pressured or forced to purchase them in order to progress or keep up with players that do purchase them.

deadpoolio3163884d ago

Well I guess IF you ignore the shark card ads every time you use the "internet" in game, or want to buy anything and don't have the money for it they remind you you can buy a shark card but yeah not in your face at all in GTA V

xPhearR3dx3884d ago

I've never had shark card ads pop up when using the in game internet....

Also, the only time I've even seen it pop up was twice when I went to use a vending machine and my character had 0 cash on him.

In your face would be if you try to purchase a car, gun, ammo etc and it asks if you wanna pay with real money or in-game money.

ziggurcat3884d ago

Exactly how many micro-transactions have you been *forced* to pay for in order to achieve 100% completion in a game? because if your answer is zero, then they're completely moot. ignore them, and just play the game.

I get why there's disdain for these things, but when they have absolutely no impact on your game, it's kind of useless to even complain about them because really... they're mostly for cosmetic things or lazy people who can't be bothered to actually play the game how it's meant to be played.

KwietStorm_BLM3884d ago

They have an impact on the game regardless, if you can't get certain content without spending more money. It doesn't have to be content that affects gameplay and/or progression. Huge games like GTA and Destiny having microtransactions make it ok for everyone else to follow suit. No matter how vocal we are in the internet, some amount of people are going to buy them. It's not like this is a free to play game. Their reasoning is so that the ongoing game can be funded over the next year. As if Activision is short on cash. FOH

Cha0tik3884d ago

I agree. People act like optional micro transactions are going to ruin the game play experience. The micro transactions in MGS didn't ruin the story so I don't see it being an issue... I was able to complete the Destiny story and it won't ruin my already slim chances on getting the Sleeper Stimulant so I have no reason to go on the internet and cry like it's actually hurting me when it isn't.

To @KwietStorm... it's not about them running out of money because we all know they are nowhere close... it's about supporting a developer in order for them to continue bringing the content they want to provide. Activision may have money but if Bungie ends up having an idea on another way to enhance the game that wasn't in the original plans... it costs money and sometimes that money is limited by a budget. Micro Transactions help with that problem in some cases. You can continue to cry about Micro Transactions but developers find that people are spending the money so they are going to keep doing it.

Fireseed3884d ago

@KwietStorm

Yeah I can't stand developers making certain content that I have to buy in order to use. Like the other day I walked into Gamestop and asked for the Uncharted Collection and these people had the gull to tell me I had to PAY for it? Ridiculous! Don't they all know games are funded on dreams and imagination? They can't actually expect money for their hard work. Or these other developers who make more stuff for a game after it's out? They should know by now that after I spent 60$ I'm entitled to every single thing they make from there on out for eternity.

Dynasty20213883d ago

They appeared on consoles and are still around due to success.

So, consoles are to blame.

UncleJerry3883d ago

Honestly, the fact that it is optional stuff that doesn't really force you to use it in order to get things done, that makes me care a bit less. Still though, Destiny game 2014=$60, 2 content-light add-ons=$40, expansion=$40. so $140 later, you expect me to buy dance moves now??

Halo2ODST23883d ago

I don't see any fault with Destiny's micro-transactions, It's just emotes, to keep people interested in the game, if anyone would present a counter argument, as to why I am wrong, go ahead.

Oh dear. Oryx's diabolical plan succeeded after all.

Well at least its just cosmetic but part of the appeal of gear is the cosmetic element.

Well tbh, Destiny was destined to accommodate Microtransactions. The darkness has spread. The Traveller's influence wanes.

rdgneoz33884d ago

"Well at least its just cosmetic but part of the appeal of gear is the cosmetic element."

It seems like it's only emotes (and sparrow skins later apparently) at first, which are only used for dancing on corpses in pvp or in the tower.

"Initially, Tess will offer eighteen brand new emotes."

Also, http://kotaku.com/sources-d...

"And the developers at Bungie will be doling out free story content every few months until next fall."

If that's true, a store for emotes is OK (which they said we'll get silver for 1 or 2 emotes for free) if we're getting Vex Void and Forge of Gods for free.

Volkama3883d ago (Edited 3883d ago )

Incoming companion pets. We'll be patrolling Mars with a miniature pet dreg or warcraft character in no time. Then we'll get consumables to boost exp/reputation/engram drop rates for an hour.

Because Activision.

Gazondaily3883d ago

Oh trust me, you joke but Activision havr a habit of copying the template over from one game to another.

ZaWarudo3884d ago

I'll be okay with this if it means that future expansions will be free.

PSN_ZeroOnyx3884d ago

That will never happen. Not only will we pay for future expansions, we will see more and more microtransaction venders with each expansion.

KwietStorm_BLM3884d ago

The rumor is that future expansions will just be game updates, leading into Destiny 2. Which would make sense, seeing as they are adding microtransactions. It's all business. Filthy industrial business.

rdgneoz33884d ago

It might be true...

http://kotaku.com/sources-d...

"And the developers at Bungie will be doling out free story content every few months until next fall."

PSN_ZeroOnyx3883d ago

@rdgneoz3

That is all fine and good. However, don't fool yourself into thinking the free story content will be the size of a full expansion. They will likely just be single quest line here and there.

TwoForce3884d ago

Not just that. Halo 5 will have Microtransaction in game. The reason why Halo 5 going to have free maps because they need Microtransaction into the game. You need to know that, making a new things going to cost a lot of money development. No matter how free content you give from company, there always a way to make you buy with a price.

GigawattConduit3884d ago

I'll just not use them. Simple.

GreetingsfromCanada3884d ago

Polygon just did it again. Apparently Oryx is transgender, lol. https://archive.is/9Kro6

wakeNbake3884d ago

What a beautiful inspiration he is LMAO!

CrowbaitBob3883d ago

Funny how this is viewed as some sort of victory for some reason as Oryx apparently had to become male in order to obtain god-like powers.

Wouldn't this be considered sexism a while back? Has the transgender cause usurped the desire for gender equality?

Gender ambiguity kind of calls into question any need for gender equality actually. If you feel like your gender is getting the short end of the stick, just switch genders. Problem solved.

ninsigma3883d ago

I don't think oryx HAD to become male to get the powers. It says it gives control over the flesh so she got the powers then became a he.

ninsigma3883d ago

I should add became a he on purpose by choice.

He paid billions for Starfield. This should be the real story.

Sciurus_vulgaris629d ago

Microsoft bought all of Zenimax Media for 7 billion, while Sony paid 4 billion for Bungie. I think Microsoft got the better deal due to acquiring Fallout, ElderScrolls and Doom.

629d ago
anast629d ago

This can't be true. They only bought Starfield...

@anast
Should've thought that one out buddy, lol.

Yeah, I thought it out. I'm not sure you did. But since we are buddy's now, you're welcome.

So you're saying that Microsoft has missed out on so many huge gaming franchise in the last 25 years from GTA exclusivity to guitar hero and destiny it's just laughable they had so many misses

Reaper22_629d ago

Yea, but they're still 100 times more wealthy than Sony. I would say it worked out well.

Gamingsince1981629d ago

Xbox is dead all that money doesn't help.

Hypertension140629d ago

What has work out well? It sure as hell had nothing to do with Xbox.

andy85629d ago

That isn't because of Xbox though. This is a gaming page, not an I get supplemented by father Windows page

Bathyj629d ago

Microsoft's money has nothing to do with Xbox.
Xbox is a money pit to them they would love to ditch but are after some ROI first.

Let's face it, Xbox is like a red headed stepchild that steals from you to buy drugs.

Hofstaderman629d ago (Edited 629d ago )

MIicrosoft is NOT XBOX. The current situation illustrates this. And Microsoft wants its ROI.

@Bathyj and daddy Satya has just force admitted Phil to rehab.

gold_drake628d ago

you know why MS has so much money, and it aint cause of the gaming xbox branch.

so lets not kid ourselves.

PhillyDonJawn628d ago

Xbox was shown to be more profitable than ps

jznrpg628d ago

@PhillyDownJawn not more profitable. More revenue with ABK acquisition but them going multiplat shows they are not making much profit

ocelot07628d ago

That's great for Xbox gamers ain't it that Microsoft are more wealthy than Sony. Is that really a argument use are using now lol?

Imagine me in my job. Arguing with a fellow security guard at another company. Hahah well the company I work for is worth £800m the one you work for is only work £600m!

628d ago
Knightofelemia628d ago

Microsoft may have more money but Sony has the talented studios and the games to back up those studios.

Plus turning down Marvel too. Spiderman is only exclusive to Playstation because of that

Hedstrom628d ago

Best deal deal in gaming must be when Sony bought Insomniac for 229 million dollars. They made over 800 millions on Spiderman for the ps4 alone. Thats just crazy!

XBManiac628d ago

More in the 1.000 million now.

gold_drake628d ago

another Interview?

how is he the only one who loves the spotlight as much as he does lol

Futureshark628d ago

Let's not forget he also famously passed on Spider-man, Genshin Impact and GTA3.

However it's almost kind of cute how he can keep that sh1t-eating grin and say he's a 'no regrets' kind of guy, especially when you think how much just these 5 titles could have swung the world in Xbox's favour instead of Sonys.

How he's kept his job I don't know, he must sure be keeping Papa Nadella's shaft warm somehow.

"But, but Gamepass, he introduced that!!!"

Yes he did, and now look at Xbox, all it's exclusives are coming to Playstation now rendering the platform obsolete.

DarXyde628d ago

Honestly, with that kind of track record, you can't convince me Spencer hasn't eaten it from the back in the name of self preservation. Probably unwashed...and at least twice.

That aside, my interpretation of everything here is Xbox has been mismanaged a bit too much and Nadella came down from his throne. The way it is now, I don't believe for a minute the multiplatform move was Spencer's idea. I don't even think the acquisitions was Spencer's work. At this point, I reckon he's got as much power in his role as Hunter Biden at a Ukrainian energy company.

DivineHand125628d ago

You can never tell how things will turn out if he had said yes to those games. Xbox already has access to some great IPs, however, they hardly do anything with them or fail to deliver. It's also possible their presentation wasn't good at the time, and they made sure the next presentation was better.

I believe that part of being successful is releasing things in the right place at the right time.

Many major corporations have a story similar to passing on successful business ideas. Let us look at Sony Pictures for example. Back when Marvel went bankrupt, they had the opportunity to buy the entire Marvel for only $25 Million but turned them down. An unnamed big shot at Sony reportedly claimed that “nobody gives a shit about any of the other Marvel characters,”. They ended up taking Spiderman for $10 Million instead.

https://www.avclub.com/sony...

Fast forward to today, we can see what the Marvel brand has done for Disney. Is it possible the same success would have been possible had Sony acquired those IPs. We can't say that for sure and it is possible most of those IPs that are successful today may not have been used.
