Looks like Serious Sam 4 is going to have a story the likes of The Talos Principle, but does it actually need it?

"Nearly ten years after the first release of Serious Sam 3, Croteam and Devolver Digital finally released Serious Sam 4 on PC in 2020. One year later, an Xbox Series S|X version suddenly launched on Xbox Game Pass alongside PlayStation 5. While it’s great that console gamers can now enjoy the latest installment in one of my all-time favorite FPS series, major technical issues add plenty of unwelcome frustration to the console experience," says Co-Optimus.

Darren writes: "You know exactly what you're getting with a Serious Sam game, and Serious Sam 4 is no different. Issues aside, fans of the series should still have a blast with this one."

HPP: "Are you tired of carefully preserving ammo, cowering behind cover and taking measured shots? Serious Sam is back to save the day as he runs around like an Olympic sprinter, throwing highly explosive C4 around like rice at a wedding. The Serious Sam series is known for a less than entirely serious take on the FPS genre, showing an affinity for classic genre staples of wanton destruction seasoned with a goofily fun narrative."
I "seriously" loved this series (a lot of it anyway) but its definitely never been because of the story. I'm not really sure what they're thinking, putting any emphasis on story at all, but hopefully it goes more the way of something like Doom 3 and less the way of...well, Serious Sam 3.
One of the few shamelessly fun series left. Can't wait for this one :D
"Serious Sam 3, a game I feel was trying to do something pretty interesting—trading in the series’ trademark spoofing of 90s shooters like Doom and Wolfensetin 3D for a parody/homage of modern military shooters like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare"
Fun fact: the game was originally going to a realistic war shooter but they scraped that and made Serious Sam 3, which is why you see all these environments that would work in a realistic war shootee
It's time they made some news happen around the next game in the series, because while it has its fans, it doesn't seem to be picking up many *new* fans yet. Bringing a bit of Talos to it should gather interest outside of the old-school shooter community.
I loved this series back in the day too. It just never reached that height again for me
