First Impressions: How Well Does Assassin's Creed Syndicate Run on PS4?

Push Square: "After Assassin's Creed Unity launched in shameful condition on the PlayStation 4 last year, there's been much discussion over how 2015's follow up, Assassin's Creed Syndicate, will run on Sony's home console. After the beating that Unity took, you'd assume that Ubisoft would do its best to ensure that Syndicate performs well on a technical level, but according to recent reports, the latest tale of Assassins versus Templars is disappointingly shoddy."

Good to hear that 1 article from videogamer about the performance being poor was wrong, or at least an uncommon experience.

Mariusmssj3763d ago

I am glad that PC version is being delayed by a month to optimise it. And I really do hope they are optimising it!

xmifi3763d ago

Are you kidding me. They always delay the pc version for a month. With the same excuse. The only reason they delay the pc version is that they think it will have a impact on console version sale.

Bansai3763d ago (Edited 3763d ago )

I'll believe after seeing digital foundry analysis in a densely populated area

RedDeadLB3763d ago

Most likely just implementing Denuvo.

Shadowsteal3763d ago

Regardless of performance I'll be picking this up for <$30 on Black Friday a few weeks later.

triple_c3764d ago

Well this is a good first step. Now I wonder what resolution the PS4 version will run at. Hopefully Ubisoft actually takes advantage of the PS4's hardware and they won't pull that same stunt they pulled lasy year by downgrading the PS4 versions resolution for the sake of parity.

GreetingsfromCanada3764d ago

Judging by Unity's PS4 framerate, it wasn't a stunt

triple_c3764d ago

The Xbox One and PS4 use the same CPU with the Xbox One's CPU being a tad bit faster since Microsoft overclocked it before launch. However on the flip side, the PS4's GPU is stronger and usually we see a trend where multiplats that are 900p on the Xbox One are 1080p on the PS4 this gen.

Now I'm not a programmer our developer but common sense tells me that the PS4 version of Unity should'nt have been 900p and it should've been able to output at a higher resolution than the Xbox One version.

With that being said, I think it had more to do with the optimization of the game, especially since every version of the game had poor performance and was poorly optimized but hey, I could be wrong.

Ipunchbabiesforfun3764d ago

GPU is video and CPU is coding, better GPU is why you see better resolution. Simple as that lol.

3763d ago
ThePope3763d ago

@Trip the PS4 CPU couldn't handle the load as well as the X1's could. Ubisoft said it themselves. So you can call it a "tad bit" but the GPU of the PS4 being a "tad bit" faster doesn't make up for the CPU bottleneck when crowds were concerned.

Skate-AK3764d ago

Considering it's very close to launch and we haven't heard anything different, it's probably 900p.

UKmilitia3763d ago

ps4 couldnt run the game at what it released as nevemind a higher one.
i know becaue i played the ps4 version and even after numerous patches it still was terrible an filled with glitches.

i enjoyed the game though

NotAFanboyyy3763d ago

I got it on PS4 as well at launch and it was abysmal performance wise. I stopped playing and let thing settle for a while and installed the numerous patches after about 1 month and I got through it and the free DLC with little issues. I don't understand how the OP's post has so many agrees. Mind-boggling.

WellyUK3763d ago

you enjoyed Unity? May I ask how? it had woeful combat and performed like a pile of turd on a 20 year old PC...

Pintheshadows3763d ago (Edited 3763d ago )

My favourite bit in Unity was when it dropped to about 2 fps when I was doing the first puzzle in the small cathedral.

It had a lot more wrong with it than just performance though. None of the mechanics felt finished, let alone polished. The crowd system was hilarious as models would just change a few feet in front of you. A man would suddenly become a lady with a nice sunhat.

I enjoyed Black Flag a hell of a lot more.

NotAFanboyyy3763d ago

So your suggestion for a game that ran at 900p and poor frame rates is to up the resolution? BRILLIANT. Sure that will go over well with the next installment if they follow your advice.

rawshack3764d ago

Hopefully they will make one in Egypt or the wild west like they hinted at in black flag

S2Killinit3764d ago

wild west would be interesting. I think they can take it to a lot of interesting places.

Germany73764d ago

Those concepts were really amazing when we saw on Black Flag, would be great to play it but i still think the series needs a break.

UltraNova3763d ago

A long break...

They might as well ditch the past timelines and do a modern setting Assassins Creed, that ought to inject some life into this tired IP.

Jmanzare3763d ago

You mean like watchdogs?

josephayal3764d ago

Assassin's Creed syndiMEH, pretty much the same game over and over again.

GreetingsfromCanada3764d ago (Edited 3764d ago )

Except combat, story, setting, characters, etc

Yui_Suzumiya3764d ago

Actually that's my opinion on every Assassins Creed before Syndicate.. Except Black Flag.. That one looked interesting..

Pintheshadows3763d ago

Black Flag is my favourite in the series behind 2. And that is odd and it could of easily been a new IP called Black Flag. It feels different to the city based games in a very good way.

WellyUK3763d ago

The game isn't made for you. It's made for people who like the AC franchise. It's as simple as if you don't care then don't buy it... the people who do want it will buy it.

It is amazing what's available. Blue Dragon. Binary Domain. AVP. Chaos Theory. Lots of gems to be had.

glennhkboy416d ago

There is no re-start option (that I can find). Since I've already finished the story years ago, I can't re-start it to check the new update.

Assassin's Creed Syndicate - Play Now at 60 FPS on Xbox Series X|S, PS5 and PS5 Pro

Revisit the Assassin fantasy and take down your enemies more smoothly than ever on Assassin's Creed Syndicate’s free 60 FPS patch.

M3talDiamond424d ago (Edited 424d ago )

AC Unity next Please! despite the technical issues it was a good game even though it was too ambitious for PS4 and Xbox One the graphics hold up well. I would love to see it on PS5 and Xbox Series Consoles

Chocoburger424d ago

YES, update Unity to 4K 60! I loved the French revolution setting, I even enjoyed playing CO-OP online, its too bad that they removed it from Syndicate, but the incredibly negative reaction from Unity (mostly because it was rushed out 4 - 6 months too soon), made Ubisoft think we didn't want the mode to come back.

dantesparda423d ago

Another vote for AC Unity!

jznrpg424d ago (Edited 424d ago )

Is Syndicate any good? I own them all since they end up in the bargain bin but I haven’t played one through since Black Flag

Rebel_Scum424d ago

Its one of the better one’s. Would make anyone’s top 7 AC game easily.

Ninver423d ago

That's not saying much. Most of the AC games after 2 are sub par in my opinion.

glennhkboy423d ago

Personally, this is a "Not Bad" grade. The gang warfare part is fun. You should give it a go since you already own it.

Gamingsince1981423d ago

The combat is fun, the setting is great and the characters are pretty good, I'd put it up just below black flag.

jznrpg423d ago (Edited 423d ago )

Thanks to those who replied, I’ll give it a go sometime

andy85424d ago

Give me a new trophy set 😂

Chocoburger424d ago (Edited 424d ago )

If you've read my comments here before, you know damn well that I'm always quick to mock Ubisoft, but in this case, its good news. Glad to see that Syndicate went from being almost broken on PS5 BC, to receiving a free 60 FPS update patch.

While this game did have grind elements, and skill trees, it wasn't exhaustively grindy like the later games would end up being. The London setting was amazing, too, and the soundtrack by Austin Wintory was fantastic. I really liked playing as a brother and sister duo as well.

It was a good game, and the last one in the series I truly enjoyed.

Why are the patch sizes so different between Xbox Series and PlayStation 5? Its a 35 GBs difference.

Patch notes:

Xbox (~31.8 GB)

Xbox Series X
4K resolution at 60 fps
Xbox Series S
1080p resolution at 60 fps

PlayStation (~0.75 GB)

PS5 and PS5 Pro
1080p resolution at 60 fps
4K resolution at 60 fps

Deeeeznuuuts423d ago

31GB more that is pretty substantial isn't it, strange

Chocoburger423d ago

The PS5 Pro patch was only 171 MBs, so its even smaller than Ubisoft's claim of 0.75 GB.

Some people hypothesized that the PlayStation exclusive content (Darwin and Dickens missions) would be coming to Xbox for the first time with the new patch, but it wasn't added. A patch this large is clearly redownloading the entire game all over again, the dev team made that choice for a reason, we just don't know what that reason is.

Underrated that's debatable.

chicken_in_the_corn780d ago

One of the most overrated imo. A big step backwards from Unity.

Relientk77780d ago

I loved Syndicate! I played this game mostly as Evie because of her stealth abilities and loved using a cane sword.
