Matt Ferguson of G4@Syfygames gives his first impressions of the Rainbow Six Siege beta and discusses how the game's mechanics may just make it one of the best first-person shooters in years.

Operation Silent Hunt is a Metal Gear Solid series crossover season bringing a new permanent Operator, limited-time event, exclusive cosmetics, and more to Rainbow Six Siege.
Ubisoft are just mocking us at this point. They can bring us solid snake but they can't bring us sam Fisher

"Six Invitational Paris 2026 was a very different event from last year’s in Boston, but it carved its own, very French path."

Solid Snake is entering Rainbow Six Siege in Operation Silent Hunt kicking off in March! Check out the Year 11 roadmap now.
Was ok. Unfortunately, as expected, the rehersed demos in the past are nothing like reality. Very little team work and no real strategy.
This game is dependent on good solid teamwork and in that regard it may find a niche audience. Amazes me how few people use their headset on XB1 given that everyone gets one when they buy a console. Complete opposite of last gen, that is, you couldnt find the mute option fast enough most games!
As for the visuals...pixel counting aside they were nothing special. All in all it felt like a game that would have been fine coming out 2-3 years ago.
I've quite enjoyed what I've been able to play of the beta. The matchmaking is terrible at the moment but when you get into a game it can be incredibly satisfying to play. My only issue is the general lack of team communication in the games I've played. It's not essential but definitely improves the overall experience. Just a shame that you get a good team who work together, then have no chance of finding another match cos it drops to a 10-20% success rate.
The pace is slower, the maps are smaller but overall I enjoy what it's trying to achieve. It also reminds me a lot of counterstrike and that's never a bad thing!
However, my biggest concern is how OP the riot shield character is. If you can't get behind him or catch him passing a hole in the wall, you're screwed especially when the team stacks properly behind him in a narrow corridor. But then again I suppose it's all about how the team works together against him. They also need to drop the ability to operate cameras when you're dead or cut voice comms to the team members that are still alive. One dead guy flicking through the cameras can still point out enemies and it gives the defence a leg up.
I'l keep my Review short. It sucks period !
The next Evolve in terms of longevity, this is my impression on this game... Not even gonna talk about getting bad/dumb/troll team mates...
Gameplay is good but the time between rounds (not talking about matchmaking issues) is truly mental. I don't need 40 seconds for 2 selections and neither do my other able-bodied companions. There's a max of 5 kills per 5 minutes so this long break and dullest menus ever make this quite a sedate affair.
And trolling people can literally kill the whole game - all it takes is one guy to start shooting the team in the back and that's the round completely ruined. Was excited for this game, and whilst it's good, I don't see any longevity, or at least, not £50 worth!
