"The team has spreadsheets with comparison data on how long it takes to execute tasks on Xbox 360, on Xbox One today and with the new Xbox One experience. With some features, it’s 50% faster and easier to get things going."

Great, I've never thought it was slow but I won't complain if it's lightning fast.

mhunterjr3905d ago

Something are pretty slow for me... especially anything involving snap (starting a party, sending an invite etc)

It wasn't unforgivably slow, but noticeably slower than on 360...

I'm extremely excited about the update.

therevolution3905d ago

I hear you, at first my X1 was lightning quick, but lately certain apps have been noticeably laggy and even crash while in use, so I'm really looking forward to the update

donthate3905d ago (Edited 3905d ago )

A lot of the speed issues people have is related to their internet. For a snappy experience with the Xbox One OS, you need a low latency connection.

This is going to be one sweet dashboard update.

MS kicks it out of the ballpark again. Hard to see how one can resist the Xbox One at this point. Stellar game lineup, monthly feature updates, new massive dashboard with Windows 10/OneCore, DX12, cross-buy/play, backwards compatibility, BC Xbox 360 games that work on Xbox One with GwG free, free Xbox 360 games with pre-order, and cloud technology for Crackdown 3 next year.

Amazing in my opinion and nobody else is close to providing this on their platform!

APexGamer453905d ago

@donthate

X1 interface is bit slow at times and has nothing to do with internet connections... Are you kidding me?

lol and wow at that level of damage control.

Either way great news that it will now be improved.

mhunterjr3905d ago

@donthate

The issues I'm talking about have nothing to do with my internet connect... Which is about as good as it gets....

conanlifts3905d ago

I have always found my Xbox one to be much faster than my 360. Having said that I generally don't use snap, I just press home and load the item I want from the screen. I have a curiosity as to whether you run your programs from the drive on the Xbox one or an external drive. All of my programs are installed externally to a fast usb 3 drive, so I wonder if this has made a difference, it certainly sped up install times.

Mehmeh3905d ago

@Captain_TomAN94

Id say the console is fine, but your comment is garbage

Kingthrash3603905d ago

The Internet speed isn't the problem
I have the fastest Internet time warner has to offer. For instance putting a game in for the first time took literally 25 to 30 minutes. A physical disc. To me that isn't something to overlook seeing that ANY CONSOLE EVER has never taken this long for a disc to load up. But I guess that's something we'll say is forgivable or not that bad...but turn around and complain about how long it takes the Xbox one to boot up from a cold boot...smh
So I'm glad something might be done about this after 2 years. Also the ESPN has super lag in it too. I hope this will help that it's the main thing I use my xbox for.

if your xbox one is being slow try trick #9 on this video. It might or miht not help

UnHoly_One3904d ago

I really like the sound of this part.

"The new Xbox One experience is also very different for developers, that will be able to directly communicate with users announcing patches, calling votes on features and so forth."

TheCommentator3904d ago

@all the XB1 is so slow comments

It's because XB1 was designed to run Win10, not the current OS with all its patches which is slower now than at launch.

hahaha....disagrees....this place is too funny...

aerisbueller3905d ago (Edited 3905d ago )

Although the OS is also faster, I believe (based off of what was said in other interviews) the speed of getting things done they're talking about is overhauling the UI so doing common tasks requires less steps and menus

raggy-rocket3905d ago (Edited 3905d ago )

Wow, loving the name. 'Onecore', very sharp. The screenshot looks great, keeping what I loved about current UI but improving it and rearranging a few things to make it super fast. 50% faster on some apps (Hopefully that include Achievements and Friends, they could do with a speed boost). Looking great, hopefully with Windows 10, Xbox will get a lot more PC games quickly and easily ported across in less then a few days for the dev. Should do wonders to bolster the game library.

I always feel like Xbox has something in the future that will better the console. First it was all the functionality they added in the first year, then there's DX12, then there's windows 10, then there's cloud compute, then Hololens, who knows what else they've got in store. Very glad to be an Xbox owner right now (P.S No, I'm not saying these things are any kind of secret sauce, just glad to see them making the console, games and the general experience better)

MeliMel3905d ago

Hell yeah...what you said!

CrunchyToadRoll3905d ago

For reals... This looks fantastical all around. Can't wait to go hands on with it.

AquarianKing3905d ago

Sounds like the one is trying to be a PC

poppinslops3905d ago

Really?

Considering PCs just got an xbox app, I'd say it's the other way around... either way, both platforms are better with Win10.

aerisbueller3905d ago

I think making the console more like a PC is a good thing. If it could run full fledged Windows 10 with the desktop and keyboard and mouse support it would become the best and most popular budget PC on the market. The more MS uses all of its branches to support and enhance each other the better position it will be in

Rookie_Monster3905d ago

The best OS on console just got a heck lot better. This loOKs great!

Paytaa3905d ago

Really excited for the NXE. I remember in 2008 for the 360 they overhauled everything from the "Blades UI" and I loved that. This update looks way better and cleaner than the current layout.

CrunchyToadRoll3905d ago

Ahhhh. The Blades UI. What a mess that was.

Paytaa3905d ago

I didn't mind the Blades but I do think the 360 NXE improved it vastly. Anytime I see a video with the Blades in it the nostalgia from the Halo 3 release window takes over. The early 360 days were amazing. I'd love to relive the old community of then

Evil Rant Monkey3905d ago

They actually kept the blades system as the pop up menu on the 360.
I didn't mind blades either. It too reminds me of the early 360 days. Battlefield 2 modern combat anyone?

Concertoine3905d ago

Blades were awesome, super simple and no ads or any of that crap. The xbox started up faster since the marketplace was a seperate load screen rather than something you had to load every time you turned it on.

Microsoft always hypes their direction for Xbox, but they often fail. What happened to what they used to say about exclusive games being important? Isn't that why they buy studios? XD

RaidenBlack207d ago (Edited 207d ago )

MS buying Acti Blizz will be the pinacle of MS blunder.
Other previous blunders ~ they could've survived from that even after compounded.
But that sale from Kotick is what's ruining and what will ruin Xbox. (We lost so many interesting 1st/2nd party games, coz lack of funds after that 68Billion Call of Duty purchase).
Till even the Bethesda deal all seemed fine.

Reaper22_207d ago

Nah, the facts don't back up what you say. People have been saying what's gonna ruin xbox for years now. Sony far, it hasn't happened.

crazyCoconuts207d ago

The way I see it is a company that sucked at managing game studios went out and bought more game studios

RaidenBlack207d ago

@crazyCoconuts
they sorta were getting better at it, after Series X launch .... but then they got greedy after the BGS deal

peppeaccardo207d ago

MS Execs have lost touch with reality and they are living in an alternative universe where console and exclusives are no more .... i guess they got what they deserved as they were never in this business for the players but simply to satisfy the pleasures of the board !!!

S2Killinit207d ago

Literally, take everything that comes out of MS mouths and flip it to know the truth. Literally.

MetroidFREAK21208d ago

I mean I'll keep buying their games (as long as proper physicals are made) on Switch 2 and PS5

Jingsing207d ago

Well that isn't going to be a lot of games, I think most Xbox games are not on disc. That is by design.

MetroidFREAK21207d ago

I know. I have Gears Reloaded and will get Ninja Gaiden 4. Here's hoping the Halo campaign remake is on a proper disc

raWfodog207d ago

It's obvious to everyone except Xbox how important consoles and exclusivity is to innovation and driving the industry forward. Someone told me I'm taking her comments out of context but it seems Mike Ybarra also didn't get the memo.

stupidusername207d ago

Nintendo stayed true to their exclusives and innovated with Switch while Sony and Microsoft chased specs and branched out into live service games, subscription services and went multiplat with their biggest exclusives, either on steam or the opposing platform.
Xbox seem like a lost cause, Sony need to find their footing again after betting too many resources on cancelled live service games, while Nintendo seem to be striving.

It seems like a turning point in the industry. I'm interested to see what the landscape will look like in 5+ years.

Tariffs used by Xbox as "an excuse to continue raising prices", says former Blizzard president

Former Blizzard president Mike Ybarra has criticised Microsoft's recent price hike of Xbox consoles in the US, stating "console price increases are not tariff issues, they are profit issues".

242d ago
Eonjay242d ago (Edited 242d ago )

I mean... he would probably have more insight into the cost of Xbox than most.

If this is true, I think we can only be so surprised as Microsoft has been telegraphing their desire to ditch hardware for some time. It also comes off as profoundly greedy. They literally have more money than anyone.

242d ago
LoveSpuds241d ago

I am not an economist but from my basic understanding, profit issues and tariff issues are going to be closely related I would think.

Not suggesting MS won't milk the situation but I can't imagine any consumer electronics company wants to raise costs over time.

Perhaps Yabarra is running cover for that orange cretin?

Eonjay241d ago

No. He is implying that the first price increase was for the tariffs and the latest round is just using the tariffs as an excuse to jack up the price again.

Outside_ofthe_Box241d ago (Edited 241d ago )

"No. He is implying that the first price increase was for the tariffs and the latest round is just using the tariffs as an excuse to jack up the price again."

They are raising it because of tariffs. Raising it just because doesn't benefit them at all. Less people buy your system, you get bad press for raising it a second time, etc.

Price only went up in the US. It's Mr. "Freedom of Speech for only those I after with" 's fault.

241d ago
raWfodog241d ago

It makes absolutely no sense to me for Xbox to raise the prices on their hardware when it was already struggling to sell at their previous prices, tariffs or not. Or maybe I'm just viewing their hardware sales as 'poor' when compared to PS5 and Switch sales.

OptimusDK241d ago

That is not the point. If your cost goes up because of tariffs, note consoles are not exempt from tariffs, you can choose to sell at a loss or hike prices. It’s not that difficult. Ms can sell games beyond the consoles so they don’t have the same incentive as leg Sony. Thank TRUMP for this

raWfodog241d ago (Edited 241d ago )

Yeah, I know very well how tariffs work. My comment was that it makes no sense. Just stop selling the product if no one was buying it here in the US at the previous prices. Sales aren't going to get any better with this new price hike.

And Ybarra's point was that tariffs was the main reason for price hikes back in May but that is not the case now:
"In a later response, Ybarra added the previous price increase in May was justified due to the rise in tariffs at the time, but that's not the case with this new rise.

peppeaccardo241d ago

Greedy ?!?! Microsoft ??? ... no way !!! :P /S .... Horrible company

Reaper22_241d ago

Profoundly greedy. Im so glad that playstaion and Nintendo are free.

He's not wrong how in the world can Xbox justify selling the series X for more than the ps5 pro

S2Killinit242d ago

Thats what I want to know too

DarXyde242d ago

You're paying for access to Gamepass, obviously!

But seriously, they're crazy.

242d ago
Green-Smurf241d ago

MS is an American company that manufactures in products in china. Sony manufactures the Playstation in Japan.

rlow1241d ago

Hate to burst your bubble but while you’re right about some consoles being made in Japan. They are also manufactured in china. Also a majority of the actual components are from more than one country.

https://www.slashgear.com/1...

Knightofelemia242d ago (Edited 242d ago )

It's to the point where a Series S costs just as much if not more then a base PS5 with out a disc drive.

Former Blizzard Boss Says Xbox Should Ditch Consoles To Focus on Becoming Leading Publisher

Mike Ybarra: "It's simple to me. Xbox should strive to be the world's largest publisher of entertainment content.

Get rid of everything else and get focused. Do not be afraid to say what you are. Embrace the lane."

327d ago
XiNatsuDragnel327d ago

Atp yeah imo that's what is happening

324d ago
lukasmain327d ago

Their console business and GamePass go hand in hand. If they were to stop consoles, they would be, in effect, killing GamePass. The vast majoirty of GP subs are console gamers. If you remove the console, you no longer have 30 million gamers embedded in your ecosystem. The majority will never move to PC gaming and buy a $2000 PC. They will go to Playstation where there is no GamePass.

Shane Kim326d ago

You answered your own question. Game pass coming to PS in a future near you.

Eonjay326d ago

Naw i don't so. Sony and Nintendo probably dont want it.

jznrpg325d ago (Edited 325d ago )

I can’t see Sony or Nintendo killing their own games sales. GamePass will be a PC only thing for a while with Xbox logos slapped on random devices. GamePass probably dies at some point without enough subs

got_dam326d ago

Could work... if they were publishing anything worth having. Bethesda is just making the same tired stuff over and over. Obsidian is a good studio, but they have been slipping hard. nXile isgreat, bit the last thing they even talked about was wasteland 3. Activision/blizzard is either the devil, or his closest friend.

neutralgamer1992326d ago

Even if Xbox only sells 50 million consoles next generation, Microsoft still wins. Why? Because Game Pass is the foundation of their long-term strategy — and it’s working. With 35–40 million subscribers paying monthly, Xbox doesn’t need to dominate hardware to be highly profitable.

Here’s the real model:

Xbox sells a console.

Players sign up for Game Pass.

They buy accessories.

Microsoft sells games on other platforms, which ironically pushes Game Pass even more: “Why pay $80 for this game on PS5 or Switch when you could play it for $20/month on Xbox or PC — and access hundreds more?”

Let’s break that down: $80 for a single new game, or four full months of Game Pass with dozens of AAA titles, day-one launches, and rotating third-party hits. For a lot of people — especially casual gamers, families, and budget-conscious players — the choice is obvious.

Most subscribers aren’t hardcore gamers hunting for deals. They pay full price month to month, often seeing it as a low-friction, all-in-one gaming service. Microsoft is counting on that — and it’s paying off. A large percentage of users also forget to cancel subscriptions, meaning passive revenue continues to roll in until they notice. That’s the psychology behind the success of the subscription model across industries.

And don’t forget Microsoft’s first-party firepower. With all the studios they’ve acquired, they’re in a position to release at least one major exclusive every month. Combine that with partnerships to bring in second-party and third-party titles, and Game Pass becomes a constantly evolving platform — not just a library, but a service with momentum.

Bottom line: Xbox isn’t going the Sega route. They’re not stepping back — they’re going deeper. Game Pass, not hardware, is the centerpiece of their strategy. The console is just the gateway

Jigga69326d ago

Series aren't even at 30M yet. Thinking it could reach 50M next gen is a joke. Move on.

Eonjay326d ago

I highly doubt the can push 20 million next Gen. The console is dead and watching these folks trying to reanimate the corpse is getting kinda morbid.

StoneTitan326d ago

gamepass will crash and burn in the next couple of years

blacktiger326d ago

you do realize console is dying. Not to mention next gen console might be hybrid meaning it may not just be gamepass but also Steam. Meaning ppl will end up buying games from Steam rather Gamepass.
