I don't buy any game with microtransactions.
If you don't vote with your wallet then companies just don't listen

Just hearing the term "Mother base coins" depresses me

Palitera3926d ago (Edited 3926d ago )

You (say you) don't (yet we all know you do), but "professional" reviewers already chose the side of everyone else on the internet.

And the average gamer couldn't care less about tiny meaningless internet boycotts.

Blastoise3926d ago (Edited 3926d ago )

No, I don't buy games with Microtransactions. Why would I lie about that?

Sorry if my comment somehow offends you(?), but I don't really care if you "couldn't care less".

Maybe you should re-read your reply and realise how ridiculously condescending you sound?

Excuse me for not supporting terrible businnes practices. I'll shut up and pre-order the £100 digital deluxe edition of Star Wars Battlefront whilst I'm at it.

Palitera3926d ago

It is not condescendence, just pure realism.
The decision to join tiiiiiiiny boycotts only affect the boycotters. The decision of one person won't really affect or influence the others.

ziggurcat3926d ago

well, you can also technically vote with your wallet by not participating in the transactions, so... why not buy the game if you can achieve everything without having to spend extra money?

trust me, i'm no fan of the practice, but it's completely irrelevant if you are still able to achieve 100% completion through normal game progression. you can literally just ignore the micro-transactions, and it won't affect your game whatsoever. the only time they would be an actual problem is if you're forced to pay money in order to progress.

TheFirstClassic3926d ago

I can't not buy this game. In fact, I already bought it. I don't like micro transactions but that won't stop me from enjoying a masterpiece.

3926d ago
TheFirstClassic3925d ago

It was worth it. God, it was worth it. 6 hours in.

isa_scout3926d ago

It's kinda hard to find games wih no microtransactions though. It's a sad, but undeniable truth. Even devs like ND is guilty of the practice. They ruined TLOU MP for me when they added OP guns for DLC that completely wreck people just using the standard guns. And anyone here that would defend the literally $300.00 worth of DLC( not exaggerating, look it up) in UC3 MP is borderline insane. My point is though, a lot of games do it. If you don't buy games with microtransactions your catelog of games must be very small. I generally adhere to the: if I can still accomplish everything without them then it's fine rule.

Raziel8933926d ago

lol ruined tlou. The best gun is still the basics most pro players know this.

isa_scout3926d ago

Raziel893 Funny, everytime I play most players are using the DLC semi auto pistol, and where in my comment did I say I am a pro player? My point is even ND is guilty of nickel-and-diming their fanbase. I love ND, platinumed all the Uncharted games and TLOU, but I'm not such a big fanboy that I don't see these things.

Raziel8933925d ago

You don't have to be a pro player to know the basics, scrub players know that the Op weapons are the burst rifle and shorty side arm always has always will. Sounds more like lack of effort put in to playing the online or else you would know this. Not one of those purchasables out does whats already available to you.

BG115793925d ago (Edited 3925d ago )

Splatoon doesn't have DLC (but as tons of free downloads).
Bloodborne doesn't have DLC (Even if players wished for it).
Two master pieces right there. You don't need DLC to do great games. The error is to think otherwise.

isa_scout3925d ago

I'm done arguing about something that clearly matters more to you. If making it to level 132 and having an end of 12 week 189 survivors makes me a scrub then I guess you're right. My point is still the same. Both TLOU and UC3 have WAY TO MUCH DLC. If your DLC costs more than the base game you're doing it wrong.

Raziel8933925d ago

The only thing being done wrong is your constant shifting of the goal post. So now its the amount of dlc thats the problem since you know the OP gun theory is complete BS. The dlc is nothing but an option, mostly cosmetic with some weapon and skill dlc. The argument of any of those weapons and skills giving a player an edge is BS, no matter what you can't buy skill.

isa_scout3925d ago

Look at my second comment to you again Raziel893. I said ND is guilty of nickel-and-dimming their loyal fan base as well as most other devs. That's not me shifting the goal post. I still stand by my DLC MP weapons comment to. Clearly we're not going to agree so I'll be the grown up and walk away from this conversation without belittling you as you have done me. Good day sir.

Raziel8933924d ago

If you was forced to actually need the dlc released then you would have an argument, fact is you don't. It's not my fault you decided to bring a game like tlou into an agrument about pay to win and it holds no weight. I could give a rats *** about any dlc but when someone tries to bring in a game that i'm very knowledgeable about with the bs your spewing yea imma call you out on it. I don't care what your stats, weeks, survivors whatever doesn't matter, you obviously either never played it much or just not any good at it and if thats the case own up to it. Don't try to make bs excuses for your shortcomings.

isa_scout3924d ago (Edited 3924d ago )

I can absolutely guarantee I know more about TLOU and ND than you. I already said I've platinumed all the ND games.Heck, I wrote the reviews for Uncharted 2 and TLOU for a well known gaming site on N4G at the time they released, giving them both a 10/10. I quit writing about games to focus my time on the wife and kids. Maybe you're just not old enough to remember cheat codes for shit like costumes and weapons that ND literally charges hundreds of dollars for across their games. I LOVE ND. Hell, I'm sitting in my gameroom staring at the limited edition clicker bust. Having said all that, there's still things they do that I don't agree with. Their DLC model being one of them.

Raziel8933924d ago

Oh wow you reviewed for some mediocre site good for you, and how does that change anything? A reviewers opinion is no more important than any average joe out there so why bring it up,credibility? You threw that away with your bs.

Cheat codes really? Last time I checked Tlou does have unlockables using points from the single player, same with uncharted so that kills off that excuse. Its not like this content was thrown out all at once, it took months before some of this dlc released and if ND feels like charging for it they have every right.

Are you telling us and yourself that you didn't play The Last of Us, GTA, Mortal Kombat, Fifa, NBA 2K15 nor Helldivers?

Or are you just being condescending and contradictory?

Sir_Simba3926d ago

This is really a terrible practice.

George Sears3926d ago (Edited 3926d ago )

Indeed it is. I understand why free mobile games do this (although I'd still vouch and pay full price for a mobile game instead of it being free with micro transactions) but paying full price for a game and having stuff like this is atrocious.

Regardless of it being 'optional' it shouldn't be optional nor added in the first place.

3926d ago
George Sears3926d ago

My comment is directed by a consumer stand point.

If I did have a business I know it wouldn't fail thanks to sheeps like you.

3926d ago
Benjammin253926d ago

@thunderbird86 oh, and how would he fail? By treating consumers with respect? Square-Enix failed today with the worst pre-order bullshit I have ever heard. Warner Brothers failed by shipping a broken PC port of Arkham Knight and having to pull the game when everyone availed of the steam refund option. And Konami have done nothing but fail for the last 12 months.
If anything, I'd truly struggle to think of a AAA publisher who knows the first thing about business outside of maybe Rockstar.

We should've believed in the Sons of Liberty, im sorry.

I don't even look into what points are for when some game has microtranscations like this. I see the # of points for whatever $$$ and immediately block it out.

CyanocittaCristata3926d ago

Although you don't actually have to use the microtransactions, It's just terrible that those who are lazy, or those who have the money to do so, can get such a head start.

Konami are trying to defend it by saying 'It's for people who haven't got the time to play the game very often.' No, it's for people who don't want to put the work in, and an easy way for you to make even more $$$ out of us

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain - Brutal Backlog

Over ten years after its release, does Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain still impress? Jump Dash Roll returns to Snake's world for this Brutal Backlog.

I don’t think I’ve ever quite experienced an unfinished game that was slapped together with duct tape and construction paper to be sold as a finished product, basically making you replay the same missions and include a story that clearly was missing so much of the plot, like I did with this game.

I’m actually shocked that it doesn’t get calls out for this more.

franwex94d ago

It did. But the gameplay loop is still pretty good.

CoPilot: Gaming Chat is an amazing revelation - A true gamer friend at your side

CG writes: In this video, we take Microsoft's Copilot for a spin and talk about gaming and AI influences, and the implications of that. We talked about a possible Metal Gear Solid V remaster, Deus Ex remaster, Hitman Blood-Money mission, and more. Imagine trying to talk gaming with non-gaming friends in real-life and after 5 seconds, they switch off and possibly yawn. Well, CoPilot isn't like that, instead it's like talking to a like-minded gaming fan who is totally on your level. The public version of CoPilot released in Feb 2023 and already it's become almost indistinguishable from a real person.

Metal Gear Solid 5, Nearly After A Decade, Is Still A Timeless Classic

The Metal Gear series, led by Kojima, pioneered the stealth genre, creating a masterclass in storytelling and gameplay.

SimpleSlave725d ago (Edited 725d ago )

No. But MGS5: Ground Zeroes might actually be one of the greatest Game Demo ever, if not the best.

xHeavYx725d ago

I know a lot of people didn't, but I actually liked that story twist at the end. The game was fun and all, but I wouldn't call it a timeless classic.

Cacabunga724d ago

Metal Gear legend stopped with number 4.
MGS5 needed a year or 2 more of development to be maybe among the classics.. it was clearly rushed, especially at the end. The story teaches us absolutely nothing new.

just_looken725d ago

A demo is free that was a $40 cry for help as later we would know konami did not want to fun hideo and his team anymore that is why we got the unfinished phantom pain.

-Foxtrot725d ago (Edited 725d ago )

Meh

Great stealth gameplay but the game was just average.

Bland open world that felt lifeless, the story felt shoehorned in, unfinished story etc. The whole thing was just average to me compared to the other main titled games.

I would have rather preferred it if they kept Ground Zeroes for the main game as the opening and the rest of the game turns into a Metal Gear 1 & 2 remake to bring things full circle.

just_looken725d ago

If you dig around they had old behind trhe scenes of phantom pain vids and books wrote around the time.

Before funding was puled the main idea was to keep peace walker coop it was in the games early builds and that end game were your building your base that was suppose to be metal gear one.

You as the fake big boss was going to make your own metal gear one map aka your base (outer heaven) then me as sold snake use the mode that is in the game invade/defeat the base even fight your current version of metal gear that was in the game but not finished.

So your idea was on the table bit got canned.

CrimsonWing69725d ago (Edited 725d ago )

Like hell it is. That was the first time I became aware of being sold an unfinished game and was blown away about blind fanboys saying it was some perfect game.

Yea, the first few chapters were great until they do that thing halfway and make you replay all the missions again. Then little things like capturing animals but only seeing a JPEG unlike 3 where everything was modeled out. Areas were massive, desolate, and boring to look at.

Game was a massive let down for me and the potential was so high for it. Honestly, this was one of the most disappointing games I ever played. What’s worse is it starts off brilliant. You literally play through until you get to the point where you could tell they just stopped developing and then quickly used glue and construction paper to “finish” it and then sold it. Quite frankly, that’s insulting to consumers and fans.

Inverno725d ago

People have selective memory. This game had huge drama attached to it, what Konami did to Kojima and this game was horrible. Now they praise Konami cause they revived Silent Hill, even though SH looks half arsed too.

CrimsonWing69725d ago

I dunno if they’re getting much praise after the Silent Hill 2 debacle. Makes me scared sh*tless for the MGS 3 Remake…

Michiel1989724d ago

I don't wanna defend konami, but Kojima had 7 years to make the game, it's not that weird for a publisher to expect a game to be finished in that amount of time.

Also no one is praising konami from what I've seen, they're just excited that a Silent Hill game is releasing

CrimsonWing69724d ago (Edited 724d ago )

@Michiel1989

You’re absolutely correct. Look, the dude is a visionary and has brought us some incredible games, but he constantly would go over budget and could never stick to a deadline. I don’t know if people remember the MGS 4 trailers but it became a joke when you’d see a release date and then they crossed it out in the next trailer to give another.

What a lot of people don’t know is there’s a certain amount of money given for development and marketing. When you go over the budget and add additional marketing over the deadline it isn’t cheap. MGS GZ and V were laughable to me for the amount of time he had to develop them and he spent even more time on the engine that wasn’t anything revolutionary to me. I mean, GZ was nothing more than a demo and they released that art like $40 I think, probably to further help fund V. He then spent money for Kiefer Sutherland who did nothing for the character, which I think Kojima just wanted because he’s a fan.

Konami just had enough and said this is the deadline and you’re done after this. It’s business, but fans took it personal. I mean look at this Overdose game he’s been doing.,, like when is that ever coming out?

Michiel1989723d ago

I kind of forgot about overdose but yeah exactly my thoughts. He has made some of the best games out there and definitely deserves time to create his new masterpiece, but it's not a bottomless well.

This is pure speculation but I imagine he got around 4 years to make the game excluding pre-production. If after those 4 years the game is nowhere near being done, the relationship will be strained between them one way or another.

about the konami being praised thing, if let's say blizzard announces world of warcraft 2 today I'll be excited as hell for the game, but that doesn't mean my opinion of blizzard changes only a tiny bit cause they're still trash.

Yeah, it was the only MGS I didn't play and this is coming from someone who got back into gaming after skipping a generation due to MGS4 back in 2008. It just seems to be the complete opposite of the MGS I always knew and loved (1-4).

JEECE725d ago

Yes and no. In many ways in was a great game; there's a very strong argument that it has the best gameplay of any MGS game, and that it is one of the more interesting open world "playgrounds" we have gotten, in terms of how the world operates. But as an MGS narrative, it is pretty far down the list, for many reasons.

Storm23725d ago

I don't think there is any argument. The gameplay was incredible. But yeah...disappointed in the rest. Could have been incredible but...well...we all know what happened...

JEECE723d ago

I don't think there is much of one either but apparently some people found the world very boring compared to the more linear structures of other entries so I didn't make a definitive statement in order to acknowledge the outliers.

DarXyde724d ago

The thing about Metal Gear Solid is that the narrative is what determines which is your favorite because the gameplay had ALWAYS improved with every mainline entry. It's amazing.

If it was gameplay, we'd all say The Phantom Pain, but the story is what truly sets them apart.

For me, that's Snake Eater, which is also my favorite game of all time.

JEECE723d ago

That's my favorite too, particularly if we are talking about the subsistence version with camera control.

Fishy Fingers725d ago

For me, best gameplay, worst, everything else.

Storm23725d ago

Yeah...gameplay was so damn good.
