Why Star Fox Zero Breaks My Heart

Jason writes: "Star Fox is my favorite Nintendo franchise. So much of my childhood was spent with Star Fox 64 that I lied to myself and said it was all alright when Assault debuted on the Gamecube. However, that disappointment (which really wasn’t all that bad in retrospect) was a masterpiece in comparison to what we are seeing of Star Fox Zero, the latest entry coming soon to a Wii U near you."

You know what's a real heartbreaker? Star Fox Zero not having online multiplayer? Even Star Fox Command on DS had that feature.

or at least a split-screen co-op

pcz3840d ago

the author is right, the game looks empty.

i remember zoness, it was hectic, wild, dangerous... this re-imagined zoness looks like a walk in the park.

all of what i have seen of this game looks dull and drab, as if it has had the soul wrenched out of it.

i suppose that is the consequence of nintendo giving the game to platinum to make, on what i think is an extremely low budget and with limited time. amounting to a game that looks little more than an afterthought for the team once they were done with working on beyonetta 2.

and no, before you start screaming troll, or hater, no, im actually a great fan of starfox, im just disappointed that we didnt get the game we have all been patiently waiting years for...

here is a remix of the classic select theme from starfox on the snes that i made-

I dunno, I assumed the gameplay wasn't all that interesting because it was the very beginning of the game. I remember seeing Super Mario 3D World for the first time and being a bit dissapointed at how boring it looked compared to Galaxy and Sunshine. Boy was I wrong.

herbs3840d ago

There is a reason for so few enemies and its not a good one... Just played this at PAX and the controls are really unintuitive and its just a struggle to play. I'm sure with practice it gets better but Nintendo games have always been about simple easy to grasp controls and this is the complete opposite...

superchiller3840d ago

I think the motion controls with the Wii U gamepad look like a very awkward, annoying way to play the game. Why Nintendo feels they must force some kind of gimmick control method on so many games is a mystery to many people. Just look at Kirby's Rainbow Curse, completely ruined because they force you to play the entire game on the gamepad, and you can't even enjoy the game on the big screen.

No wonder Nintendo is so unpopular these days, they really are completely out of touch with what gamers want.

MSBAUSTX3840d ago

They said at E3 that the gyro control is were optional. Quit complaining.

wonderfulmonkeyman3840d ago

That's literally the only complaint I've seen thus far that has any actual merit, and even without online multi, the series has been single player for 3 out of 4 of its main line games, so it's not like it's suddenly not worth getting due to that flaw.

Shnazzyone3840d ago

What the heck? This article seems to assume there are not difficulty tiers. That the preview footage is the only option for difficulty. All he says is that there are not enough enemies... he does realize this is a platinum games joint, right? Sounds like premature griping if ever I heard it.

Best way to describe this game so far is Generic

Natversion13840d ago

I just watched the video jeez it's slow as hell

gamejediben3840d ago

I think I'll wait and play the game for myself before I pass any judgement on it, thanks.

This is like The Wind Waker controversy all over again. Nintendo usually has a good reason for what they do. You think Nintendo wanted to make another Star Fox after the last few games sold so poorly? They obviously believe in this game.

Just wait.

Random: Takaya Imamura Ponders The Possibility Of Star Fox Zero On 'Switch 2'

Takaya Imamura, famed ex-Nintendo developer known for his work on the F-Zero and Star Fox franchises, has taken to social media to ponder the possibility of a Star Fox Zero release on Nintendo's upcoming 'Switch 2'.

It's a good ponder. Nintendo would be stupid to not do it. The more titles and first party line up released on the Switch 2 the more enticed the customer will be.

Star Fox Zero, Was it Really That Bad?

Has time been kind to Star Fox Zero? Does the game have any redeeming qualities that are worthy of revisiting? Should it be considered for a port to the Switch? Was it really that bad?

Haven't played it since it came out, but I really enjoyed it. Can't tell if that's just nostalgia-tinted glasses, or if I actually consider it a good game though lol.

Vits1587d ago

It's a mediocre game that reuses ideas, scenarios, characters and moments from previous ones. Paired with one of the worst control methods that I had the displeasure of using.

CptDville1586d ago

Those controls. Boring and frustrating at the same time. Only with co-op they were bearable, but co-op was restricted to finished levels.

SeTTriP1586d ago

Yes couldn't finish it it was so boring.

MissAubrey1586d ago

controls made me stop playing also what good is a 65inch tv when you have to look at a tiny Wiiu tablet.. same with kirby & the rainbow curse..

Einhander19711586d ago

No it was great, just the control scheme spoilt things really. The wii u screen was not needed for it really

Platinum wants to bring Star Fox Zero to Switch

But any potential design changes would be up to Nintendo if it happens.

I’d rather Star Fox Assault be brought to Switch with online multiplayer instead

Teflon021636d ago

Finally, someone who knows about Assault. Best Star Fox Multi-player imo.

Neonridr1635d ago

or a Star Fox 64 remaster instead.

deadfrag1636d ago

Platinum Games wants to many things but sadly it does not show nothing new for years! They try to jump on all offers but end finishing none!

whitbyfox1636d ago

1: Get rid of the motion controls.

2: Bring us Okami 3.

Good-Smurf1635d ago (Edited 1635d ago )

I rather have them show more of Bayonetta 3 first before they talking about any new project.
This reeks Inafune's funding for Red Ash and Mighty No.9 animated series, both never materialized.
