Trophies and achievement systems in games have always teetered on the precipice of complete enjoyment and tedium. On one hand they add a level of challenge, success and longevity to a game, but on the other it can make a game tedious, boring and outright feel like a chore.

All available May 5.
I think the only game here for me is Nine Sols. Was always interested in that game.
Good month for me, I wanted that particular footy game and thought it might be due. Anyway who cares, shame about the site I'll miss the comment sections. All the best everyone.
Naughty Dog was reportedly divided on the controversial fate of Joel in The Last of Us Part 2 during the game's development.
I think it was good decision, if he was still alive, he would have been a mascot just like Kratos, drake and many others. These old dudes gotta die for new characters to take center stage with their own storyline. They keep dragging the emotional baggage into many sequels and eventually the story just turns into absolute shit show.
Honestly as much as I loved the game, they could have just not killed him off.
I get it creator vision and all but killing a character that made you millions is just wrong imo. At least have him go down fighting.

Square Enix launches Final Fantasy X 25th anniversary site, revealing new Nomura art, books, music releases, and merchandise.
Look I know VIII has its issues and all that but how on earth can the do big anniversary events with new artwork and merchandise for VII, IX and X yet VIII got sweet f*** all.
They could have given it something during its 25th anniversary yet all it got was a single Happy Anniversary post on their social media.
Too many collection and completion awards.
Trophies should be about encouraging gamers to step outside of the box. I loved Ghostbusters The Game achievements because there were riddle trophies for each level to decipher the description and figure out what you actually needed to do to unlock them.
I don't see now Trophies and Achievements can be viewed in a negative light since you aren't required to get all of them. If it is boring or difficult them don't try to attain them, as simple as that.
I love achievements. Total whore. Started a couple of years ago though so I'm at 96000g now. I like how the higher your gamerscore, you get more of a rebate on xbox live purchases (albeit like 2%). I like their idea that when you unlock certain achievements, you get rewards in game. They really took advantage of that in a few earlier games, but I haven't seen it at all recently
Achievements can add hours more to a game for me and help me see things the developers put in that I wouldn't see normally (e.g easter eggs and extras for getting collectibles and cool references). It encourages gamers to experience as much of the game as they can, and it's always worked for me
I think the negativity could stem from the lack of effort on the developer's part. Some trophies are truly tedious and detract from an otherwise great game if you feel like going for the platinum. Other trophies simply require skill or force you to approach the game from a different angle. I like seeing these more innovative trophies rather than the generic ones that emphasize repetition and collectibles (e.g. 10000 kills in Resistance 2 competitive MP or flags and stuff in AC = garbage trophies). Played so much R2 and would finish first or second in games with 40+ players for weeks and I only ever got up around 7000 kills I think.
Edit: I also hate when you beat the game on normal mode and then say to beat it on crushing you have to go through it again on hard mode. Kind of tedious though with Uncharted I end up playing the game four times anyway.
